Syphon72: Let us know how the game is because I've been looking at it for a while. But people are saying it's too repetitive; is it fun? That’s the question for me.
avatar
ReynardFox: Haven't started downloading it yet, but if it's anything like the PS2 Gungrave titles, which it very much does look like from all footage and reviews I've seen, it's going to be very one-note gameplay; run, shoot, dodgeroll, shoot more. The previous games were more style than substance, and definitely a bit janky, but they were fun games to play in short bursts.

If gameplay footage looks at all fun knowing that it's the same thing start to finish, you'd probably get something out of it, especially with it being so cheap.
I do remember the PS2 one being fun pickup and play for mindless fun. You're right that price is making hard for me not to pull the trigger.

Thanks man.

TurdFerguson87: How can we ever recover? I am so moist.

Iohannis42: Buying the entire full, complete collection means you'll never buy another Whale Rock game.
avatar
GremoryShannon: Is it just me or I don't understand why sales are supposed to be reveals/gifts? We get sales all the time. Just for the duration of this anniversary, I've been getting constant notifications that games on my wishlist are on sale. So why exactly are these sales supposed to be special?

Iohannis42: Your disappointment is certainly understandable. Nothing could match the experience of having the full complete collection of all Whale Rock games at your disposal.
You mean the same Whale Rock games that are also on Steam, where they also have more games there, and most are also under heavy discounts of sub $2, $1 prices each?

syscrusher: This Anniversary Sale has Steam worried. Its Autumn Sale now has Far Cry 3 for under $4 and Far Cry Primal for under $3. Joke's on them because we got free wallpapers and 2 links to the Preservation Program.
But it's not DRM-free and gives Steam access to your computer whenever they desire. No one needs a business entity spying on them.

Besides, Steam doesn't have a single Whale Rock game available for purchase.

I have personally never seen a single Whale Rock game for sale on Steam.

However, I must confess that I have never actively searched there, as full access to the entire collection is readily found right here on GOG.

Most of the games are on sale on Steam right now. The "entire" collection on GOG still comes up short compared to that platform.

Gadufon: Can't get Sunday gift. I tried to get it in web browser and Galaxy client. No way to use the redeem code. The classic version is already in my library. It seems to be the problem. I wrote to support Monday.
Is somebody have the same issue?
avatar
Lhun Duum: I also have the classic version and the redeem code seems work fine on my side. Just so you know, it allows you to purchase the remake at a huge discount. I was able to put it in my cart but didn't go through with the payment as it's not a game I'm interested in.

Do you have the correct link ? https://www.gog.com/redeem/2025Magic
My bad... I misunderstood it was a discount.

Steam is a bloated mess of games where anyone can sell their product. And they demand to be in your computer, which is a security threat.

GOG is a more curated collection of games that are much more likely to be actually good

Therefore, it is logical and expected that GOG would have fewer games than Steam.

Steam has a lot of the same games, and then some. Steam isn't a security threat, let alone the fact that you can also play DRM-free. GOG has some of the niche games, but it's not always exclusive. That also doesn't mean GOG is any superior, especially when I'm seeing a growing number of the same quality. Second to that goes to Zoom Platform.

Haha, they demand to be in your computer? WTF?

First of all, you don't have to install it. You can uninstall it whenever you want. It doesn't install rootkits or anything. Say what you like about Steam, but they don't demand to be in your computer. You can consent to letting it into your computer if you want though.

All gaming is a security threat though. Think about how many games get patched every day. Nobody is checking every single patch. Steam is more vulnerable as it has a larger surface vector and games update automatically by default (or on launch, there is unfortunately no way to delay updating before playing a game, except for certain games which use the beta-branches for old versions and even then you have to select this manually per game).

Didn't read the rest of your post because nothing follows from absurdity.

A continuously open back-channel will always pose a great security threat due to increased opportunity to attack.

Given a choice of the same games, I would always opt for the safer option of offline installation.

I had never used Steam on principle, but I had almost given up on game collecting due to the disappearance of physical copies... Then I found gog.com and was able to continue my hobby.

Lol, okay, look. Clair Obscur and the Tomb Raider games are fantastic additions. I'm really glad they're here. But like it's been for the last 17 years, I think GOG needs to learn about expectation setting.

I can't believe I wasted my time clicking on the different gift boxes hoping it might be something nice. Probably should have expected less than nothing since they apparently don't give games away free anymore and they've desperately stooped to begging for handouts at the checkout page like a hobo with a gofundme page.

I don't even know what Whale Rock Games are.

I do know that GOG needs a new marketing team though.
If you don't have enough "surprises" for 16 days, then don't have 16 days of surprises.

It probably would have been better to stagger it out so that it's 4-6 very good reveals overall than 2 very good reveals followed by a suite of mediocre reveals.

CthuluIsSpy: I don't even know what Whale Rock Games are.
It's a money-laundering scheme masquerading as a game developer.

It's the only explanation why their shady practices are tolerated so much.

Think about the Breaking Bad plotline where Saul Goodman had Walter exploit his son's precursor to gofundme to launder drug money.

Nobody looks at the massive number of small-change transactions.

To date we had -
COE33 (amazing)
Modern Lara Croft collection (also pretty good, though COE33 still takes the cake)
Wallpaper (wtf?)
An extra 5% discount for Caster of Magic series (the same as you get in newsletters)
Preservation project announcement (a nice reminder)
Preservation project announcement (now redundant)
Another 5% discount for 3 seemingly random "shooters" games, one of which is gungrave for some odd reason (again, no different from your typical newsletter discount and it's an curious selection to boot)

So out of 7 reveals, two of them are great, 1 is thematic and the rest are mediocre. That is not a good showing for a 17 year anniversary. Especially when one considers the technical issues; the placement of the present section is rather counterintuitive and hard to find, and sometimes you can't even click on them without first refreshing the page.

I really like GOG, but apparently the staff doesn't actually seem to care. That's what I'm getting from this.
