I just renamed the folder to StorageTEMP and let GOG create a new one, after that I then backed up the StorageTEMP folder and instead of merging I just copied and pasted the files into the newly generated storage folder which seems to have worked after I re scanned the directory through GOG. Only problem I've encountered so far though is that some of my games specifically Morrowind continuously tries to update even though the last update was 7 years ago and I have auto update turned off but it still works or at least the OpenMW version does. I hope this helps and sorry if I didn't explain it well as I'm really not all that technically savvy but this worked for me and I hope it works for you guys too.

Edit: OG Morrowind works as well so I guess it's just a bug from the jury rigging that is this fix.

Hi !

Thanks for your reply, i am having a bit of a problem following up, let me know if i've got ya correctly

1.- Close GOG and its services, then backup the old storage folder
2.- restart GOG and let it generate a new storage folder with the new .db files ( I've gotten to this point already, GOG galaxy opens up and loads fine but it won't find my games nor my special settings for them ( like launch options and stuff)

So from here on.. should i close GoG galaxy and replace my old DB files over the new Storage folder?

Thank you!

sarge33rd: My Gog Galaxy is on my D drive, and there is no Pragram Data flder on either my C or D drives. My path to galaxy looks like this:

D:\GOGGalaxy and then 15 subfolders and maybe 2 dz files.

There is no "storage" folder/directory indicated.

How d I get this thing to work?????
You can use Everything to search all of your hard drives for folders and files: https://www.voidtools.com/
Just chiming in to say I'm experiencing this pretty serious issue as well. I have(had?) dozens of 'Additional Executables' set up for Ultimate Doom mods with specific custom arguments for loading wads; well over a dozen 'Other' titles requiring manual installation and tweaking; a bunch of smaller personalizations e.g. switching primary executables for certain games, like using OpenMW or DeusEx Kentie etc.etc. This all took a long time to set up and if I had to do it over It's doubtful I'd remember half of it, giving the unpleasant legacy of an otherwise minor cosmetic update a very long tail.

I'm not going to rag on the Galaxy devs here, mistakes happen, bugs occur and folks should try and remember that. GOG certainly didn't want this to happen. It is fair to point out though, the vast majority of people will make this cheerful discovery when they sit down in their free time to enjoy a game only to find themselves searching forums, trouble-shooting and restoring old settings. A dim reaction then is totally understandable. I will say that if this update has irreparably damaged/altered the local database file then that would be extremely disappointing and a bloody poor implementation of the update process, beta or no.

I'm backing up my storage folder and any other user files I can find in the hope GOG can reverse this non-destructively. Looking forward to a rapid solution to this, thanks for reading.

Welp I have the same issue now too, unable to use gog. Really annoying. I can't fix it even with the suggestions from anyone here. Surprised this got past their testing.

Narakir: I fixed that by going to C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy and deleting the storage folder
I also updated to the latest client and got stuck on "GOG Galaxy failed to load game database". The post by Narakir addressed my issue. Thanks!

Im on Windows 10 21H2.

1. End Task on the GOG Client (as it gets stuck loading).
2. Renamed the "strorage" folder
3. Relaunched GOG Client
4. GOG Client recreated the folder and found all my installed/owned games after a minute or so.
5. Had to reset some of my prefences such as visiblity, etc.

More testing is needed, but its working for me at the moment.

[EDIT] I have to reinstall the games, its quick, as others mentioned since the files are already there. :-/

KingCool2: Yes. Delete or Rename the Storage-folder in C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy does the job
That worked for me. Only, the GOG Galaxy launcher doesn't remember all the games I have installed. Fortunately, I have .exe files of each game saved in a folder, and when I launch one of the games, GOG "installs" it (meaning, it puts it back into the launcher). Thanks for the help, and good luck to everyone who's still trying to solve this.
Another thread with an alternate fix on page 6.
https://www.gog.com/forum/general_beta_gog_galaxy_2.0/the_failed_to_load_game_database_error
If you delete/rename the storage folder or the db file the games are still on your system. And may even be playable if you go to their folders and run them.

I only did the db file and in order to have them in galaxy I had to click install for each game and then choose the Gog Galaxy Games folder they were in.

Since I have 2 drives it was either of these.

C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games
D:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games

Understand that one of features of GoG vs others, is the ability to play many games without needing to use their app. GoG Galaxy is more of a convenient launcher than a gatekeeper, though some newer games are more integrated with galaxy.
So, it was suggested to avoid Galaxy entirely, and manually install the games via the offline installer. Anyone here with Solasta, care to peak at that, and tell me what sequence those UNDATED installers need to be run?
I am in the farked catagory. I can't even start GOG Galaxy to change settings. This is a disaster I hoped wouldn't happen but knew it would. Nothing works anymore, not in 2022. I have no answers and I can't play a host of games including No Man's Sky. That is the ONE game that makes my miserable life a little better and GOG took it away. I farking hate the future.

Sorry for such a late reply but yes replace the files and then launch Galaxy, from there just click the cog icon at the top left and select "Add games & friends" and after that just click "Scan folder for GOG games" and it should work like it did for me. I hope this helps!
I cant believe GOG does not test their updates. They screwed the client and now there is absolutely nothing I can do to fix that. Luckily, I archive some of my savegames ... in case they did this ...
