TylerJordan360: Sorry for such a late reply but yes replace the files and then launch Galaxy, from there just click the cog icon at the top left and select "Add games & friends" and after that just click "Scan folder for GOG games" and it should work like it did for me. I hope this helps!
dolphinteacher32: On the subject of the Scan Folder for GOG Files, I have never, ever been able to get it to work correctly. Whenever a drive would get disconnected or I changed drives, it would never scan the folders en masse and I would have to literally go into each installation folder to "scan" one at a time. It's tedious, and now with this it has happened again.
I searched the forums previously and resigned myself to just doing the 'scan one at a time' bit, but I'm not doing it all over again. Is there a trick to tell GOG to scan many folders at once? I've tried the "scan only the GOG Games folder" and "Scan the root drive (C:/, D:/, E:/, etc) itself" tricks, but Galaxy always tells me "No games found".
I have a large library, all downloaded and installed, but don't wish to go through it again, just so I can have a wall of images.
Is there a special trick or script to use?
How many games do you have? I only have 18 and they all transferred over easily but then again I don't have all of them installed, I only have like 5 of them installed so that could be why it worked for me. I didn't do any tricks other than the ones I listed so IDK but in my situation it worked near perfectly other than the weird update loop that Morrowind was in. Sorry I can't be of much more help.
Edit: I should mention that games still worked before this fix if you run the exe itself instead of using the GOG provided shortcut as running the exe itself bypasses the Galaxy launcher. The only reason I was trying to find a fix is so I could download a game called Kenshi that I recently bought.
Stiffkittin: Just chiming in to say I'm experiencing this pretty serious issue as well. I have(had?) literally dozens of 'Additional Executables' set up for Ultimate Doom mods with specific custom arguments for loading wads; well over a dozen 'Other' titles requiring manual installation and tweaking; a bunch of smaller personalizations e.g. switching primary executables for certain games, like using OpenMW or modded game launchers such as DeusEx Kentie etc.etc. This all took a long time to set up and if I had to do it over It's doubtful I'd remember half of it, giving the unpleasant legacy of an otherwise minor cosmetic update a very long tail.
I'm not going to rag on the Galaxy devs here, mistakes happen, bugs occur and folks should try and remember that. GOG certainly didn't want this to happen. It is fair to point out though, the vast majority of people will make this cheerful discovery when they sit down in their free time to enjoy a game only to find themselves searching forums, trouble-shooting and restoring old settings. A dim reaction then is totally understandable. I will say that if this update has irreparably damaged/altered the local database file then that would be extremely disappointing and a bloody poor implementation of the update process, beta or no.
I'm going to back up my storage folder and any other user files I can find in the hope GOG can reverse this non-destructively. I recommend all users do the same before nuking any of them, or implementing their own fixes. Looking forward to a rapid solution to this, thanks for reading.
I found a fix that preserved my data and mods but even without said fix I could run games by clicking on the exe instead of the provided shortcut created by GOG after a game install. The only reason I needed the fix was so I could download Kenshi.
