Klumpen0815: I don't even get the German frontend, probably because everything is set to USD and English in my browser and it will stay that way. Having multiple languages I can more or less comprehend in front of me at the same time irritates me as hell, that's why I'm watching English movies with English subtitles if with any at all.
Yes, but multilingualism still isn't very common, especially in the 10% of the countries who can afford the luxury of gaming without needing to bother fending of starvation, I suppose.
I guess the richer monolinguals are gog's target audience... (c.f. Le Frénch Gog Fôrùm)

If it makes you feel better, while not a requirement in all the US states, students must pass at least 1 non-english class starting with grade 7-8. Most areas anyway.

BreOl72: The original was -afaik- always pictured horizontally (standing flat on its "side"), while the Nazisymbol sits on its "corner".
So, there is a difference.
Yes and as far as I am concerned I've always sen the "good old one" carved in golden buddha statues, the 'bad new one' always black in a white circle. There are probably a lot of exceptions but my point stays valid I think.

moonshineshadow: But the problem here is, that it is not against the law. Mortal Kombat has been taken from the "Confiscated" games list since 2005 which means it is allowed to be sold to adults.

markrichardb: I'm trying to find a source because it seems to be a matter of confusion. Wikipedia says the list of banned games for Germany includes Commandos and Mortal Kombat, and that ‘a ban is enforced for a minimum of ten years, after which a request for review may be submitted.'
The easiest way to see this would be going to the wikipedia page of Mortal Kombat which clearly states that the "ban" was lifted in 2005. I am too tired now to look again for the other sources but I can do it tomorrow.
The ban was done in 1994 and like you said after ten years a review was done which lifted the ban and only put it on the index list.

Thanks for letting me know, but they only way I would feel better would be if GOG would stop all regional crap, demolish all attempts of separatistic language movements and start becoming a global company again. But as a multilingual profiting from my several languages I'm obviously biased...

BreOl72: Oh, I know of the origins of the symbol - but the matter of fact is: We all know, what it stands for, nowadays.

And it doesn't matter, what its meaning was a thousand years before the third reich - because no one is referring to it in that way, anymore.

And another thing:

The original was -afaik- always pictured horizontally (standing flat on its "side"), while the Nazisymbol sits on its "corner".
So, there is a difference.

And I'm not implying, showing the "old" (flat) symbol would be considered better, nowadays.
The Nazis have spoiled that "symbol of love" forever.
There was a guy telling me about a friend of his. That friend is a native Indian migrated to our place for quite a many years. His appearance one could say is typical for his point of origin. Brown complexion, relatively short, quite skinny. In other words the perfect mark for our local brand of neo-Nazis. On the inside of his wrist he has a swastika tattooed by his spiritual mentor as a good luck charm before he left.
I sure hope he's not a closet Nazi. :P

Edit: Sorry for the off topic subject. I will refrain from further commenting. :)

You know I've always wondered, do Europeans always dream in their home language?

Funny you should mention this. I spoke with many non-first language english speakers. They say they always think in their native tongue, then think of the words in english.

AndyBuzz: Wanting to stay on subject and supporting censorship is not even remotely comparable dude.
Besides is quite annoying to see "legalise it" proponents how they are twisting arguments in to presenting marijuana close to a miracle medicine.
Not nearly as annoying as reading the blatant lies put out by the government regarding the "dangers" or marijuana.
And as far as staying on subject, I guess telling an adult "free" human being what they can and can't read, watch, or play is nothing at all like telling an adult "free" human being what they can and can't consume in their own bodies?

Well, if he ever stumbles into a group of Neo-Nazis, that tattoo might save his ass, hm?
One surely would have to laugh about that - if it wasn't so sad.

But you are right, we are a little derailing the thread - so let's call it a day.

I'm thinking in English and trying to find the German term quite often, but I'm living in a multicultural area where many people can rather speak English (and Spanish, Russian, Turkish, Vietnamese, Korean, Chinese, Arabic...) than German, so whatever. The big problem is, that one is assimilating a lot of this broken English this way... I try to counter it by reading old English literature and start sounding a bit too pompous afterwards... oh someday I want to live somewhere where everyone speaks one language and this one really well.

Ciris: We've updated the "Herzlich Wilkommen" post with information about the locked games.

Update text:

"Two games from our catalog had to be made unavailable in Germany: Commandos Ammo Pack and Commandos 2+3. Offering or promoting these games is considered a serious criminal offence according to German law, and we have to abide by this law to avoid the risk of serious legal action taken against GOG.com and GOG.com employees. Rest assured that if you've already bought a game - nothing will retroactively disappear from your shelves."
no comment....>_<

there are worse in the catalog than those two games.....

oh wait , more games gonna be censored for german custormers ?

Don't complain to GOG, complain to Germany. They might be a keystone of Europe and they might have Nintendo's Euro division by the bollocks, but that doesn't mean sudden pressure from 15+ countries around the world could help change the ways.
Has the irony of a country that rejects 'Commandos' but embraces David Hasselhoff hit anyone yet?
