RudyLis: Even? Don't tell me you're huge fan of CnC4.
Lol, I also wanted to reply "even?". To me the first two games in the series are better than most of the others.
There's no genre that I really *can't* play, on preference. I can't play much in the way of MOBAs because of how crazy they are. But that's not because I hate RTS or MOBAs.

I don't like anything too gross or violent, though. Which dismays me more as graphics arms-race continues because I really like the Mortal Kombat games, have been a fan for years, but the games' increasing violence is driving a wedge between them and me. In MK9 I only ever X-Rays when I absolutely have to and hate doing it and always look away when I do. Losing because of one is infuriating. Never done a fatality in mk9.

I was disgusted when I read that article about the selfie fatality in MKX. I'd like to know what these guys think is too far if they don't think that selfie fatality is too damn far,.

I have the same worry witch TW3. It looks like a great game, product of many many hours of crafting and skill, but I'm sure it's filled with constant nonsense which might be enough to turn me off it halfway through it.

Matewis: I don't know how the community is these days, but I used to have a blast playing Engineer in Team Fortress 2 years ago, where it wasn't about speed but instead all about placing and maintaining/upgrading/defending dispensers, teleporters and turrets. Also, you had to develop a sixth sense for enemy spies. Of course there is also the medic class which some people like.
Could never really get into TF2. None of the classes really hit the mark with me. Despite being a bit crap these days I do still love accurate, powerful weapons. Sniper rifles, rail guns, that kind of thing. I know there's a sniper, but it's just not a very good class to be in that game. It's just so out of sync with the pace of the game. It's much more in your face than that. Being a medic was probably the best class for me in that game. But even so the game never really worked for me the way it clearly has so many others.
To quote Archer "Can't...or won't?" There's a lot of stuff I consider drek that I won't play, but off the top of my head:Anything with Call of Battlefield in the title that the kids lose their collective shit over these days.

Can't? Most racing games, I just tend to crash a lot because I get bored and stop paying attention.

Stealth and RTS, I never found them fun to play. Platforming doesn't really appeal to me either, but I can stomach it for a bit.
i have still never played a game like civilization, total war, etc , seems too daunting

That's fair. A big part of the lure for me is/was the atmosphere, which I don't really know how to describe (what is that vibe? 1970s?), and which of course it is highly subjective.

Matruchus: Well after EA killed C&C and Blizzard turned SC2 in to a zerg spamm fest its no wonder if people don't like the genre. In the new SC 2 addon (Legacy of the Void) the gameplay is supposed to get even faster cause by Blizzards thinking this is what people wan't. I decided not to continue with that franchise cause its going in the wrong way. I hope that Act of Aggression from Eugen Systems will finally resurrect the genre with good old C&C play.
Have to say, It sounds to me more like an intrinsic dislike of the genre as opposed to what the genre has become.
Zerg spam fest? Are you referring to multiplayer balance? I've only played Wings of Liberty (don't want to play HotS until after I fix my fried desktop PC) and I thoroughly enjoyed the campaign which I thought (for everything except the story and characters) was top-notch. My only real criticism is the Battlenet requirement, and to a slightly lesser extent the uninteresting story and characters (except Nova and Raynor). I know some people are really upset about what direction SC2 took the multiplayer in, but having never been big on SC multiplayer I can't make much sense of it.
I don't know if there is any genre of game I would dislike playing, save those which have gratuitous advertisements polluting one's fun.

My favorites are adventure and role playing games, however, I don't mind any game which makes me think. :)

Matruchus: So which RTS game is your favorite TinyE if I my ask?
avatar
tinyE: There is no way I can pick one. :D

AoE 2
AoE1
anything C&C (even the original old ones)
I'm really loving my 2nd tour of Act of War, and of course SW Battlegrounds which really doesn't count because it's just AOE with a SW wrapper.
I still have C&C and Covert Operations on CD, get em at a scrap shop for 5 bucks 10 years ago.

snowkatt: im sure there are more then enough strategy fans among gog's userbase

dont forget we are just a minority
a vocal one but a minority none the less

i just have zero strategic insights
i cant play shining force because i will get railroaded in to the ground in minutes
there for i find this fascinating

http://lparchive.org/Shining-Force-2-%28by-inthesto%29/
crazy but fascinating
Shining force was the only strategy game where I didn't get my shit pushed in from the get go.

Ditto and I found a great installer that lets me play them on this machine perfectly.
Oh wait, that's RA 1 not C&C.

No. I've heard mixed things about it, mostly that it's not really bad but not really that big of a deal especially for people who love the original.

Shining in the Darkness was my favorite on Sega-16 system. Had to mention it since you said 'shining'.
Anything involving Japanese culture and animation. My brain simply cannot process it. It causes utter confusion and disorientation. Every time I see a game cover featuring an over sized child with huge eyes wielding a sword or magic wand, I just freeze up and break out into cold sweats.
