I hated Dear Esther but the upcoming game Kholat is really promising. It's apparently really trying to make "walking simulators" a worthwhile gaming experience. I won't touch most walking simulators with a stick but I'm pretty sure that I'm gonna buy this one.

Those blue menus intimidate me enough even without difficulty hacks. Still, Chronotrigger has convinced me I should check out more blue-menu-type games. Not that chronotrigger had blue ingame menus, but I think they were very similar

The walking sim genre is still very young so perhaps it needs some time to grow up, I think I'll just wait another couple years and then retro play the ones that stand out as classics, if there are any that qualify as must-play games.

Just checked out a trailer for Kholat. Looks great visually, hopefully the gameplay doesn't suck. Usually, there isn't much gameplay to begin with in this genre and that's the main reason I have never even tried any of these games.

Well after EA killed C&C and Blizzard turned SC2 in to a zerg spamm fest its no wonder if people don't like the genre. In the new SC 2 addon (Legacy of the Void) the gameplay is supposed to get even faster cause by Blizzards thinking this is what people wan't. I decided not to continue with that franchise cause its going in the wrong way. I hope that Act of Aggression from Eugen Systems will finally resurrect the genre with good old C&C play.

RTS is my favorite genre, but then I've always been a nonconformist.

I'm really loving my 2nd tour of Act of War, and of course SW Battlegrounds which really doesn't count because it's just AOE with a SW wrapper.

Nice choices. I personally would go with Red Alert 1, Tiberian Sun, Dune 2000 and Emperor: Battle for Dune as favorites. As you said its really impossible to pick one :)

Dating sims

XD Never played #4. The DRM got out of hand around RA 3 and I backed off. I have played C&C 3 which was fun save for some asshead's idea to add an alien invasion to it.

Most unwanted genres? Adventures, no matter if they are point and click or parser based.
I also don`t like games with high difficulty, like Far Cry. Well, and there are puzzle games which I really don`t like.
Oh, and I don`t like real time strategy games, except a little bit of the settlers games.
