We used this year’s spring cleaning to dust off some of the great DOS classics.

Thanks to the partnership and long-time cooperation with the DOSBox Crew, together we’ve managed to enhance with cloud saves feature over 100 classics, with more to come.

Since the introduction of the Universal Cloud Saves to GOG Galaxy, the feature has been added to more and more all-time classics that never offered save syncing and cloud backups. Working closely with DOSBox Crew and adding cloud saves to older games is another step that we take to improve gamers experience with good old games.

Many of these cloud saves enabled DOS classics joined the Spring Sale line up offering savings for such must-haves like Colonization (-75%), Dungeon Keeper Gold (-75%), Heroes of Might and Magic (-75%), Alone in the Dark: The Trilogy 1+2+3 (-75%), Wing Commander III (-75%), classic X-COMs (-75%), and many more.

Geralt_of_Rivia: Yes. That's not a bug, it's a feature. :-)

The offline installers are supposed to always install exactly the same as Galaxy so you can choose to use (or not use) Galaxy at any time without any change to the games. So when the game changes, even if it only gets new Galaxy only features like cloud saves or achievements, there will be new offline installers.

If you do not care about that feature and you already have the previous installers downloaded and backed up you do not need to download the new installers.

trusteft: Ah....you confused me.

I am worried about downloading these new installers (and I hate that I don't have the option to download previous versions but anyway) since I heard people having issues with them. I don't care about the client and only want offline installers. As far as I know the client is no longer attached with the offline installers, so...yeah, no idea.
The client itself doesn't come with the non-Galaxy stand alone versions of the games, but there are some files that Galaxy make use of that also comes with the non-Galaxy versions. This is supposedly so that it becomes easy to import the games into Galaxy should you ever want to, and also–I'd wager‒because keeping multiple versions of the games up to date and running without a hitch is a pain in the ass. So yes, non-Galaxy versions of games also contains some Galaxy related files, and when these get updated, both Galaxy bundled installers and non-Galaxy installers becomes updated.

vv221: Usually they do, if you extract the installers contents of any DOSBox Linux game you can find DOSBox source in "data/noarch/docs".
I didn't check Windows installers lately, so I don't know if it can be found in there too.
avatar
squid_80: Yeah, I just checked for myself - source code is there like normal (dosbox-0.74-2.1.tar.gz) and the relevant new stuff is in src/dos/drive_overlay.cpp.
That is correct. Have fun checking it out. (There are more comments in the code compared to normal)

Btw, for all people who have suddenly send me friend invites. Please allow me to politely decline. I hope you understand.

The new updates have problems with at least Bitdefender Antivirus. No updated game will start anymore unless you disable Bitdefender and verify the game again.

Edit: SDL.dll and SDL_net.dll in the Dosbox subfolder will be deleted while downloading. Copying them from another game will make the others run again.

Verify works as well...

eiii: Are these updated games still compatible with the vanilla dosbox version?
Yes. The game files aren't modified, just the new dosbox build is configured to put any new/modified files in the cloud_saves directory.

Exit Galaxy, go to the game's folder and run the exe.

I just tried that on a few games, and I get two error messages.

On Windows x64?
Try installing this:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=13523
Maybe the new Dosbox needs Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable? Would've been nice if GOG mentioned this.

verify files on galaxy with your antivirus turned off. Or put manually the new SDL files into dosbox folder if you have them.

Some antivirus are deleting those files during installation.

EDIT: For now it is known that bitdefender is one of those antivirus, another is avast in my case.

For some reason BitDefender has started detecting these files as malicious and removes them, even though they're exactly the same as the ones included in earlier installs.
Disable BitDefender and verify your games with the galaxy client (look a few posts up for instructions).
Amazing!
Well done!

I'm pretty sure that Bitdefender just moved them in its "quarantine" area. Just release and whitelist them. No need to disable it.
