mrkgnao: They offer an opt-out option not to create the CDPR account. If you choose it, as I did, they tell you --- twice --- that you will lose your My Rewards, Cross Progression, etc.
avatar
PaladinNO: Enlighten me, please - exactly what does the "My Rewards" entail (in the different games)?

Cross progression doesn't concern me, and CET offers every single piece of "My Rewards" ever released for Cyberpunk 2077, which is the only CDPR game I play, so I may have been more narrow-minded than I initially assumed.
My Rewards are DRM'd minor in-game items for The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077.

What is CET?

mrkgnao: What is CET?
Probably Central European Time or Cyber Engine Tweaks

kittens_world: Cross Progression is a feature CDPR rolled out recently, that allows you to move saves between different devices.

Consolidating these two explanations into a single post for anyone else who (like me) didn't know what either one was.

Thanks both of you.
"Do I need to take any action?
No, a new CD PROJEKT RED account will be created for you automatically based on your GOG Account information: user ID, username and email address.

How can I log in after the migration?
Your new account will use the same email address as your GOG Account."

- Are they transferring our passwords as-well?

"Can I opt out?
If you do not wish to have a CD PROJEKT RED account created for you, you may opt out of the account creation process by clicking this link. After the account system migration, you will be able to delete your account with the same link."

- It read as if the account is created first then you can delete it, or 'opt out'.

It's poorly worded, I believe.

It should have said something like: "If you do not opt out, after the account system migration, you will be able to delete your account with the same link."

You can opt out before account creation. I did. Whether CDPR/GOG will abide by it is another question.

So I've never played The Witcher 1 on my GOG account.. (I do own 1&2 on Steam, but again never played them..) And I never made an account with CDPR or their affiliates.

Also I own The Witcher 3 for Xbox One.. But I never signed up for an account when I played it back then either.

I've also never been on the CDPR forums or their official website.

So getting this email is really weird for me.. I think they will make a new account for you, as long as you own any of their games on GOG... Which is really weird.. I opted out of them making a new account. (Since I don't have any accounts with them. And I don't want them to use my GOG account info on their own accord.)

So why the hell is GOG and/or CDPR emailing me about it? (I haven't even made any in-game accounts or linked my Steam/GOG accounts with their sites.)

Just really weird. I'm definitely opting out of this.. It feels kinda sketchy to me.. (I actually thought it was a scam email at first.)

Me too! xD I had to read the email twice before I realized it was a legit message from CDPR.

Okay, so it's the same kind of ingame rewards for Witcher 3 as for Cyberpunk 2077. I have the Witcher games here on GoG too, but I've only played Cyberpunk 2077.

CET is Cyber Engine Tweaks. A console mod for Cyberpunk 2077, where you can insert codes for "every single piece of "My Rewards" ever released". And all the vehicles, weapons, items and equipment in the game. Making "My Rewards" and any "pre-order bonuses" completely redundant.

"Cross Progression and My Rewards, in CD PROJEKT RED games, as well as your participation in platforms like the CD PROJEKT RED Forums"
I have no idea what any of these things are. I'm guessing it is safe to just delete this new account thing that they're signing me up for?

What cross progression is has already been clarified in this thread. "My Rewards" are content like the Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 ingame DLCs, currently requiring signing in at cyberpunk.net to obtain (and using GoG Galaxy):
https://www.cyberpunk.net/en/myrewards
Amazon Prime weapons are also included in this. Can't speak for The Witcher content.

I have Cyberpunk on my wishlist. Buying it on Steam seems like it will be less hassle. Thank you.

What made you feel this way?
Got the mail, no idea why. Can't remember having had anything to do with those things mentioned. I used to have a Steam account linked to GOG account for GOG Connect years ago. Can't find it in the settings anymore, but perhaps the link is still in existence somehow and would be used by cross progression?

Cavalary: I never even downloaded a Galaxy installer, so can't be that.
Just got the email as well this morning, so nevermind. New running theory: having a GOG account is enough.

It's a very sad thing the FLAGSHIP game of GOG.com. the 'DRM-Free store where you own your games' contains things locked behind DRM.

And I too got the email and got very confused by it: I didn't ever create a CD Project Red account, I have the Witcher games and Cyberpunk yet never claimed any rewards nor do I make use of Crossplay. And I only used Galaxy to find out what it is (and what update 2.0 is like), disliked it and uninstalled it.
