Just came across this. People DEMAND Boycott Of US Companies Bowing To China

Mortius1: Update:
They've given the prize money back. Still banned though.

https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2019/10/blizzard-reinstates-hong-kong-protestors-prize-says-china-had-no-influence/

I like the last paragraph though. Blizzard USA and Blizzard China are fighting over the motivations of the ban.
Good to hear, but it is likely a PR move at this point. :\

==================================
(Also eh....I make one mainly ontopic post and it gets low rated, and nothing but the one person talking politics got a low rating[that I can see]. Guess my "fans" were awake last night)
=======================
I like Timcast a bit...thanks for letting me know about this. Will watch it later.

I respect Blizzard/Activision's right to set up whatever rules they want and act according to them, even if it means supporting a communist government.

I'll just not buy anything from them anymore and start being more weary from now on. I'll try and find out which companies are mostly owned by the Chinese government, didn't realize how bad its gotten. Starting to agree with Trump's idea to put a tariff on Chinese imports at least, though that causes a lot of other problems, and I am not informed enough about economics to know whether that's a good or bad idea...

Whatever, I'll just focus on trying to keep myself in line when it comes to buying as few China-supporting goods as possible.

Anyone have a good list of video game companies in particular that I should stay away from besides Activision and Epic Games? I know that in a way purchasing any Unreal Engine game is supporting them, but you know...

who even cares about hearthstone anyways games literally pay to win, and its esports is literally based of RNG cos u dnt know what cards u will get, u only know the cards u picked not what order u get them, im not siding with blizz or the player i nqwestion i just dnt give a fuck

tbh i wonder if anything controversial will happen at blizzcon i mean its only like 18 days away

Blizzard talks shit and does shitty things. I am not surprised that this things happens. Blizzard sees Chinese as potential money makers for company. Keeping positive relations for Chinese government is a big business.

Why the heck Blitzchung have to start talking Hong Kong events in Hearthstone tournament. What he thought to achieve by talking about it! Hong Kong situation is a critical thing but I'm not going to speculate on it.

I read Gamespot version of the news.

I agree too that GOG should be neutral for politics.

Question: Why come into threads that might be not on gaming if you seemingly dislike such? :|

Also it's within the rules(gaming politics/etc) and we get more spam threads by magnitudes over the amount of such threads we get on these topics. One can simply let them slide down the pages to the bottom if one so chooses.

It's a pity there isn't as much concern for Blizzards anti consumer practices than this cynical politicized outrage.

And how do you quantify how much concern everyone has and how much is appropriate? People are obviously concerned.

I would point out that the West is no more democratic than China is. We're freer, but that's slipping away as we speak. The corporate states are falling all over themselves to emulate China as quickly as they can. So I think Spectre is right that this is about power politics and has nothing whatsoever to do with human rights.
