And its sad it does fit.
Then again the Bioware I loved and cared about is long gone anyway; this now is just a company using familiar names.
I was on their forums way back in the NWN days, long before they moved over to the BioWare Social Network. Hell, I was even a moderator on the forums from way back then. Interestingly, they at some point in the past few months stripped all us volunteer moderators of any moderating powers. Not sure when that happened (it may actually have coincided with this announcement), as I haven't been on their boards in ages, but they didn't even notify us (ar at least, I got no notification). Not even a 'thanks for helping us out all those years'.
But it really hasn't been the old BioWare since they moved to the Social Network. Oh well.

My thought exactly.
But anyway, it was in the Bioware forums that I heard about GOG for the first time, as well as the first place where I learnt about the nastiness of securom, so at least I kinda owe them that.

Sad news. Now we risk migrating of creepy romancing and sweat tasting enthusiasts to relatively sane forums.

Bioware's Forums in the Neverwinter Nights era were some of the best around, but then they completely destroyed the usability in a redesign around the time of Mass Effect/Dragon Age with tiny little fixed size font and other silly design. I haven't been back since then and given today's announcement I'm guessing they never succeeded in rebuilding the community after that mistake.
Bioware's started their current patterns of thought and design in the Jade Empire/Mass Effect era which was before EA's acquisition. You could perhaps say EA stopped them rethinking their market, but that would be highly speculative. I think it's unfair to blame EA for this one.

I first read the title as "Beware forums closing", and for a split second, thought GOG was finally shutting this place down.

And, of course, considering how they ignore the place and how the community changed and how those few still left who care and speak out bother them, it's probably in the back of someone's mind there...

Hmmmm this could happen here....... They could immigrate over to here........ We need to build a great wall and protect our community from the danger of the outside forums! We will have bioware pay for it in bioware points!

it's sad to see the so called "social sites" getting more power and control.

To be honest, I have no idea. I have only visited a rare few reddit threads that's shown up when I was searching for information, and I didn't feel anywhere near as much "at home" there as I do here, but that may just be due to having been here for nearly eight years.
