It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

At least some authors are now rushing to upload their projects to nexus. Some had already started the move before this announcement as it was easier for them to maintain them there.
The s**tiest thing is that they aren't even going to keep the forums read-only.
They're goingt to wipe out years of community posts and then move to Facebook as if nothing happened..
Someone should save at least the best guides, stickied posts, etc. : (

zeogold: I first read the title as "Beware forums closing", and for a split second, thought GOG was finally shutting this place down.
i wont be surprise if they shunt the whole damn thing in to the oh so optional galaxy client

which explains why they do fuck all about this place

Yeah. Whenever that's done, it makes absolutely no sense... unless you assume actual malicious intent. If the site and those behind it vanish completely, sure, nobody to pay for the hosting and domain and all anymore. But if it's still there, keep the archive at least.

Well, the Galaxy client is by all means an alpha, and just like this forum, it will likely remain an alpha version forever. I guess the first reason why they won't close the forum that I'd mention is just that: they can't really close down functional services without having alternatives in place.

And they're working really hard to show the Galaxy client as no kind of alternative to .exe files whatsoever.

Now, the second reason I'd give is even more cynical. The BioWare forums are closed because EA and BioWare just see it as a place where negativity is spread about the products they offer. They cared enough to put moderators in place who quenched the kind of "civil criticism" that is decidedly litigable, but of course deleting posts and banning members, even the greatest assholes, never makes a forum look like a sunny place for all.

GOG doesn't moderate their forum, GOG doesn't give a shit about negativity. With downvotes, they even have a very effective system in place to explicitly FOSTER negativity! So really their reasons for closing the forum can't be the same as BioWare's. They don't protect their interests here, and they don't protect the interest of their business clients.

Go into any Telltale announcement thread and you'll find the same 'cancer to Telltale' comments for not fixing a non-gamebreaking bug in a single one of their 10 year old games. Go into any longer Double Fine announcement thread and you'll find the most heinous and ludicrous conspiracy theories about their business conduct. And concerning the sheer amount of definitely litigable slander rubbish spread in the Un-Gamer Activities Committee thread ... yeah, OK, I won't even start.

Short answer: GOG doesn't give enough of a shit about this forum to close it.
I'm not surprised. This will be the 3rd change forum from them in the last 10 years. They seem to really hate forums. I wonder why?

Because you have to read. :)

zactly.
GOG closing down their forums? That would be the second time, right?

Vainamoinen: GOG doesn't moderate their forum,
You think? I have the feeling they only have a very lax moderating enforcement, which IMHO is exactly how forums SHOULD be run.
Also, Bioware or how EA wanna be called nowadays doesn't know what the value of forums are, or maybe the users of that forum didn't know. They clearly have not seen a good thread about a specific topic, which, ages later, can help a person dig up a collect collaborative info in one thread (that's why they are called that way) about one specific topic (also that's why the first text box of a new thread is called that way).
Watch here how to not do forums: http://us.battle.net/forums/en/overwatch/22813879/ , which contains crown jewels of thread topics like "How much?", "Distance", and "Big Q". It even limits the posts to one thread to help the bad situation. Search before post? Thread categories besides "General"? Not in this forum. This goes back to "maybe the users of that forum didn't know", because people apparently never learned how to operate one.
If twitter users don't give a fuck and type your form of stool today in as few characters as possible, don't mean a forum is suddenly useless.
I can tell you the reason why they don't want one any more, and of course they are professional and lie about it so nobody of their petty customers have something to get mad about. It requires work. And why work on communicating with the customers and with themselves when you clearly don't (have to) give a shit about what they think anymore (as it was stated that they removed criticism and so on).

AlienMind: You think?
The GOG forums operate under a "strict hands-off policy".

Said one of the blues, according to a member who had actually received a warning because GOG received "too many" complaints about him.

OK that goes back to our politically correct entitlement crowd nowadays, getting actually mad at somebody for just having a different opinion.
I guess if you run a show, don't do real talk to the customers, they're likely mad the minute they came in. Always smile and say petty things for the petty people they are.

How dare you come in here and suggest that people with an opinion are arrogant and snobbish just because you think that your opinion should be ranked highly above the rest. Why I should just....

...
You haven't been in many threads this year, I guess (except for releases).
The forum desperately needs a moderator now.
