CymTyr: Mark my words, if Baker starts the rest of the year, the Browns are making the playoffs this year.

bler144: That's a bold claim considering are already on their second kicker, and the new guy's 2 FG attempts were both through but probably worryingly exciting for the coaching staff.

Plus they don't exactly get to play the Jets 13 more times ;)
They're on their second kicker because Gonzalez is a phenomenal kicker in practice, but a total headcase when it counts.

Also the new kicker had like 2-3 days max to practice with the team.

I stand by it. I'll be surprised if Baker doesn't lead us to a wildcard spot this year at 9-6-1 or 10-5-1

CymTyr: This has aged well.

Also, after tonight, the Browns are no longer the worst team in pro sports, nor even the NFL. The last two years were painful, but rumor has it the past two years were intended tank seasons.

Mark my words, if Baker starts the rest of the year, the Browns are making the playoffs this year.

tinyE: I fell asleep at halftime. :P

Seriously, couldn't be happier! :D
Thanks bro. I slept in to celebrate. I think it's a sign I'm getting older... lol.

rjbuffchix: YES! Browns Win!!!!!!!

They should be 3-0 this year if it weren't for Zane's kicking the first two games and Hue's clueless coaching.

And imo, Bills have seized the mantle of "the new Browns".
I think the Bills are now the worst in the NFL, no offense Bills fans!

David9855: When the Brown win a game it a BIG thing though. Also a new season always brings a new hope.
Yep!

If you were talking about a QB or safety I'd buy it, but ...kicking is kicking. It's not like teams have some super secret pre-snap ritual he has to learn.

And he's presumably not new to kicking. ;)

And yes, I lived in Cleveland for a while, so I'm actually happy for them. But I've also seen them look they were turning the corner to competence only to fall back to earth.

lol, that's pretty good.

There's also this classic, though it's about the whole city: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZzgAjjuqZM
I know it's unlikely they make the playoffs, but I do think they won't have the worst record in the NFL this year. I also think even without playoffs, there's a very good chance they go .500 or more.
So, let's take a look at the rest of the schedule:

at Oak - WIN

vs Bal - Loss (imo)

vs Lac - Loss

at TB - Loss

at Pit - WIN

vs KC - Loss

vs Atl - WIN

BYE

at Cin - Loss

at Hou - WIN

vs Car - WIN

at Denver - Loss

vs Cin - WIN

at Bal - Loss

7-8-1. Having followed this team through years of misery, I will take it but not truly satisfied. I would love to finish with a few more wins in the division to try and make some noise that way. The question will be how Baker looks over the course of the season. We have seen QBs come in and light it up, only for them to then get figured out by opposing teams. There were times in the past when guys like Holcomb were viewed as saviors only to flop. Obviously more is riding on Baker being #1 overall. I want to see the defense continue to grow and help earn some road wins. Wasn't our last road win under Pettine?

Cleveland will be lucky to put 4 wins on the board. You're delusional.

I think you're delusional thinking they'll have less than 4 wins. To each their own?

Probably. It will be a fun season for me either way.

Yeah without a doubt. At least they'll be fun to watch :) Last year started off fun until the interception machine known as Deshone Kizer started putting back to back drives together with interceptions to kill them.
Okay so they should have won against OAK but did not. Should "not" have won against Balt and did. This team is still learning how to win.

I think my guess they'd make the playoffs was premature, but it's definitely a possibility this year. They just have to finish flushing the toxins out (Including remnants of a very toxic portion of the fanbase) and they'll be fine.

I'm guessing they have another close call against LAC and then start winning the games that they end up winning, in a more convincing manner.

They're so goddamned close to being legitimate playoff contenders. Their defense this year is scary. Love these guys. Last year was brutal, hence the creation of this thread.... but.... It's like.... After 20 years (Minus the 2007 season and first half of the 2014 season) I actually look forward to watching Browns games again beyond just a "well they COULD win" attitude.

Well, they're halfway to the 4 wins I predicted.

To be fair, they totally deserve that prediction, too. Like you said, so many years of almosts.
rome wasn't built in a day and you don't just bounce back from being that bad that quickly. Shit, look at the lions. Their 0-16 was ten years ago and they still haven't gotten any better. :P
