I'm trying to better myself as a user in the forums.
I admit I bought it because of the graphics and very positive reviews. :)
The graphics helped, but I mainly bought it because I heard it was an awesome Space RPG.
No, I did not buy it because of the graphics and it's a ridiculous assumption anyone and everyone did. In fact, this is the first time I heard anyone say graphics are the best feature of the game (which is what you imply).

Did you read my OP?
I bought it because A) sci-fi RPGs are fairly rare, B) you had your own ship, C) it came from Bioware, D) reviews/buzz was positive and E) it was pretty.
And it's still pretty good looking to be honest, especially for an RPG.
I bought it because they were on sale. All 3 of them.

LiquidOxygen80: I don't. They promised us an RPG, not an FPS. An FPS is what we ended up with, not an RPG. Not the same thing, is it?

Avogadro6: Not sure whether you're referring to all the things they scrapped from ME1 to ME2 (in which case, I can only say: good riddance!), the action shooter nature of ME's combat or something else entirely, but either way... that entirely depends of your definition of RPG I guess.

Deus Ex can be played as a shooter, is it still an RPG? Is combat the only thing that makes of breaks an RPG? Because besides the combat, ME has pretty much the same structure of Kotor (or Jade Empire for that matter) and I don't think I've ever heard anyone arguing that Kotor is not an RPG.
I'm referring to the fact that Bioware itself promised us a deep epic space opera RPG, then lost focus halfway through to go chasing the CoD audience, turning it into a cheap Gears of War knock off by the end.

I think most folks skipped the OP and are just replying to your hyperbolic thread title.

I agree with your OP. It was a huge step. Especially for an RPG which, before Bioware, were called Really Poor Graphics games. Bioware redefined it to Role-Playing Game. (I'll have some people here to correct me on that in a minute :-P. Figures of speech, people!)

Well now let me properly define what I mean about this game.

Mass Effect to me was the "True" Next Gen gaming experiance ever made back than in the late 2000s. We had a character creation driven RPG where your character can Talk with many different dialoge lines. The human characters look increadibly photrealistic and aliens look realistic, it had a movie like presentation, gameplay felt BIG I mean we explore whole planets on the ground.

It was the most "Next Gen" game I have ever played.
No I bought mass effect because It reminded me of Starflight 2. One of my fav games of all time.

I did. And? Basically, all you're saying in it is that you were blown away by the graphics. I also read your title, and it seems to assume everyone else was too and that's the one and only reason why they would ever have bought that game. I, for one, bought it because reviews said it was a good RPG.

Sure it does. It just irked me when you first assumed in the title (unless it was a simple matter of writing it hastily without thinking it too much) that the quality of the graphics was the only redeeming factor for people when deciding whether or not they should get the game :) "We all bought Mass Effect because of the graphics": That statement is wrong, most people bought it for gameplay value. And I know, I know: I'm nitpicking and grabbing on to words here. I didn't mean to start an argument.
