Hi there. Today I was so excited :D Carmageddon! Finally!

After starting it right away, and I got graphics like the attached file clipboard01.jpg shows
Pretty ugly, I didnt remember it THAT ugly! However after a short search and experimenting ... 3dfx works fine :)
For comparision watch the second screenshot.

How did I do that? Pretty easy!

For the normal Carmageddon follow these steps:

1) Download and install nglide, I used this one http://www.zeus-software.com/downloads/nglide

2) In startmenu search the nglide entry and run the configuration and set the resolution to the one you prefer.

3) in the carmageddon installation dir in the folder doxbox delete (or rename) the file glide2x.dll
This is important! If you dont delete this one, it wont use ndglide!!! and it will glitch!

4) Modify the shortcut on your desktop. You have to edit the target to dosboxCARMA3dfx.conf from dosboxCARMA.conf (see third attached file)

5) Start the game and enjoy the madness =)

However, there is ONE little issue I know, you should not use your mouse, it drops you to your desktop.

For Carmageddon Splatpack do this:

1) the same as for the normal version above. No need to do that twice!

2) the same as for the normal version above. No need to do that twice!

3) in the carmageddon installation dir in the folder doxbox delete (or rename) the file glide2x.dll
This is important! If you dont delete this one, it wont use ndglide!!! and it will glitch!

4) Modify the shortcut on your desktop or starmenu for Splatpack. You have to edit the target to dosboxCARSPLAT3dfx.conf from dosboxCARSPLAT.conf

5) Start the game and enjoy the madness =)

goddamnit :D I knew it xD

Edit: hm nope, the windows version is framed too? I even think my version looks way more beautiful? However I think i stick to what i have posted above and wait for the perfect solution from GOG ... (somehow I was expecting that from the beginning...)

framed? did you try using - and + to change the size of the border frame.
I changed the resolution to 2048x1152 and the Menus and everything are fullscreen, but the race itself is like the first screenshot I posted above. There is a big black frame. + and - does not seem to affect the border. The actual 3D Window is a little bigger, but I cant screenshot that :\
using the + next to the backspace worked fine for me, it runs all full screen and looks great.
Works like a charm for me, even with the right aspect ratio. Thanks currysini!
I just installed nGlide and configured it for 1920x1200 and aspect ratio 4:3, didn't needed to delete or edit anything else. I tried also Win95 patch, but its blocky compared to hardware mode. Oh, and i added profile for DosBox under nVidia control panel, to force antialiasing etc.

Thank you for this how to, it worked perfectly.
All those nasty pixels are now gone, and the game is now playable without hurting the eyes!
Great post, thanks.
Performance of this nGlide seems to be a few FPS faster for me than the HW mode that GOG provided.
I had to delete that glide2x.dll thing because it was used I only got a pretty dark screen ...
However, if it works without deleting hurray :)

I am glad I could help.

Somehow I expected GoG to rewrite the game .exe to work on modern systems just out of the box, with 3dfx support and stuff. Sort of like the new mobile versions will be, with the best visual settings.

Does this work on Splat Pack as well?

They have to find workarounds because they almost never get access to the source code. But usually they do a good job. :)
this works for me, thanks a lot
Worked for me, as well. MANY thanks!
