Thanks a million for this. I'm playing the game at 1920x1080 and it looks awesome! I do have massive slowdown using the cockpit view, but other than that the game runs like a charm. Here's hoping Carmageddon 2 roars on to GOG some time.
Thanks. Works great for me on Windows 7 x64 with nglide installed.
I use GliDos you have to pay for it but it looks like!!

currysini: Hi there. Today I was so excited :D Carmageddon! Finally!
I followed your instructions, but when the shortcut runs dosbox opens for about a second then closes its self.

I know my Nglide works because I used it to upgrade the graphics for clive barkers undying.

This is what the target of the shortcut was when i first installed carmageddon:

"C:\GOG Games\Carmageddon\DOSBOX\dosbox.exe" -conf "..\dosboxCARMA.conf" -conf "..\dosboxCARMA_single.conf" -noconsole -c exit

This is what it looks like after I edited it:

"C:\GOG Games\Carmageddon\DOSBOX\dosbox.exe" -conf "..\dosboxCARMA3dfx.conf" -noconsole -c exit

What did I miss?

I've read in quite a few threads here that the game HAS to be run in "hardware mode" and that there should be a shortcut for it. But I cannot find it in any of the carmageddon files. There is only one shortcut that goes to a DOS menu for carageddon (regular) and 3dfx mode (which doesn't work).

Help from anybody is appreciated! the window's 95 patch is sluggish on my comp (along with jerky driving)

Have you deleted/renamed the glide.dll and glide2x.dll in the Carmageddon folder?

Yes I did, I renamed every glide .dll and .ovl folder.

However I have now resolved the issue, it turns out the windows 95 patch just didn't like my AMD graphics card. I switched to the intel integrated graphics (I'm on a laptop) and the game runs perfectly now at the correct FPS- not at half speed like it was doing with the AMD. A rookie mistake perhaps but i'm at sea when it comes to PC gaming! Driving in slow motion was throwing me off!

This is the first time I have played carmageddon 1/2 I can see why it has the cult following, very fun destruction Derby-type game (But with much more character). :)

The Win95 patch doesn't work for everyone, but unless running it in DOSBox is too intensive for your system then I can't see why you wouldn't run it in DOSBox and make use of nglide for a higher screen resolution to get sharper looking graphics.

Looking at your shortcut, being as the software shortcut referenced two conf files, shouldn't the hardware (3DFX) one also reference two conf files? i.e.

"C:\GOG Games\Carmageddon\DOSBOX\dosbox.exe" -conf "..\dosboxCARMA3dfx.conf" -conf "..\dosboxCARMA_single.conf" -noconsole -c exit

Without that second one (dosboxCARMA_single.conf) you won't have any autoexec commands, so DOSBox would load, set up to the settings for 3DFX, then quit as no application was started within DOSBox, which sounds like what you were experiencing.

Leprask: I just installed nGlide and configured it for 1920x1200 and aspect ratio 4:3, didn't needed to delete or edit anything else. I tried also Win95 patch, but its blocky compared to hardware mode. Oh, and i added profile for DosBox under nVidia control panel, to force antialiasing etc.
I hope you are still around :) Would you tell me which file I need to run in order to start the game with nglide? I already have nglide installed

Did you read the directions?

currysini: 3) in the carmageddon installation dir in the folder doxbox delete (or rename) the file glide2x.dll
This is important! If you dont delete this one, it wont use ndglide!!! and it will glitch!

4) Modify the shortcut on your desktop. You have to edit the target to dosboxCARMA3dfx.conf from dosboxCARMA.conf (see third attached file)
(see third attached file)

thank you very much. I think it worked, cars seem to have better graphics at the expense of the game menu working a bit slower
