Thanks for the guide, works fine but it's a bit too bright on my monitor.

edit: found the gamma correction option, looks good. Though the backgrounds are enlarged.

Also can't get it to work for the expansion.

Ah ok you answered it for me. I wasn't keen on fiddling with the shortcut to Splat Pack if I wasn't sure it was gonna work.

Omg though please figure out how to make it work for Splat! I love the Eagle Mark 2 haha

Just use * dosboxCARSPLAT3dfx.conf * worked for me.
Hi, when I use this method I get far better looking textures but poor framerate. Using the Win95 exe I get better framerate but seem stuck with messy textures. Anyway to get best of both worlds?

You can either get an old computer with an original 3Dfx card, or you can get a really really fast computer which will run the emulated version at decent speed.
Lol ok just out of interest any idea why the Win95 exe doesnt have nicer textures?
Splatpack works fine too, you have to take the right target .conf like Garrif explaind 4 posts earlier.

I added it to the top post as well.
Here a screenshot :D

@longbwai: I think it is because the win95 version uses Software Mode for rendering as well and not the 3dfx mode ;)
But I dont think I want to figure that one out ...

That is rather technical and I'm no insider either, I think it is that 3Dfx supports texture filtering and the win95 patch doesn't.

After installing nGlide as above, the gamma was strangely far too low for me. Setting it to 0.5 in the configurator seems to have fixed the issue.

I wonder, does one need to install the above package when GOG Carmageddon is packaged with nGlide 0.99?
Ah that worked, awesome. Thanks OP

Game looks great now.

I wonder if I can force AA with AMD Catalyst?
It works!

However, I am looking for increasing the view distance. I changed to 250 yon from 50 yon in OPTIONS.TXT. It doesn't work??? :(

Any suggestion?

If you don't get what I am talking, look at the video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hoWxwAjjDeE )

Thanks a lot!

I would love to know as well. Not only the viewing distance, but especially the distance pedestrians and items pop in. Does anyone have 'sensible' values for options.txt to improve this?
texture filtering is so ugly and blurry like a nintendo 64 game. using widescreen resolutions on a 4:3 game is even worse. can't believe some of these screenshots

currysini: However after a short search and experimenting ... 3dfx works fine :)
What if my dosbox (carmageddon and carmageddon (hardware)) shortcuts don't work? Dosbox pops up, closes, and nothing happens...
It only ran the very first time, but black screen, and I had to use the taskmanager (ctrl-alt-del) to close it. After that: nothing :(

So I tried the Win95 patch, and that shortcut works fine, but without 3Dfx, so it's very blocky.
I loved the 3Dfx patch back in the day when I had an old pc with a monster3D card.

How can I get that dosbox 3Dfx version to run? Did I do something wrong?

Sjeng:
If you rightclick on the Carmageddon (hardware mode) shortcut, then click properties, it should say something like this:

%target folder%\Carmageddon\DOSBOX\dosbox.exe -conf dosboxCARMA3dfx.conf -noconsole
