Hi !
I get this error every time I start a game, or even when I click on the credit button.
I suppose this is due to an issue with the graphical engine of the game, but running it in compatibility mode doesn't help at all.
I got an ATI hd5870, and I7 860 proc and I run windows 7 64 bits, if that's any help.
I tried to tweak the options in the advanced options menu at start, but no dice.
EDIT: Apparently I can run the game in 1440*900, but not in 1680*1050.
I can start loading levels in 1440*900 and then switch to 1680*1050, and it does work, but then I have the same crash at the next loading

This question / problem has been solved by PsychosesManimage
While I wait for gog.com to respond to my support email, I decided to check out if shogo would play in the highest resolution...It does! I was like "I have a lead!". My first guess was to copy every single file ,excluding any needed ones like the .exe's, and paste them individually into blood 2's directory then test blood 2. Fail every through every file. Then I just copied all these files and pasted it into blood 2's directory. Fail. So, the only info I have recieved from this is that it may be that I missed a file, the file that fixes the bug is not the same name as blood 2's broken file OR it may be that the exe which is broken.
Hey everyone, heres another update :D! I remembered on filefront there was a beta patch(at least one of those b's in the name refers to beta I think) which, if I remember this correctly, fixes the problem. http://www.filefront.com/845627/b2p_224b.exe is the link. Unfortunatly, heres the bad news, This is meant for the standalone Blood 2 the chosen(without its expansion pack) and also it needs a no-cd patch. If gog or someone with extreme haxzorz would like to use this as a reference for a fix, it would be very nice.
In good news, COOP! Looking upon the rest of this section of filefront I found an interesting link for blood 2! http://www.filefront.com/12738418/Blood-2-Coop/ . Yeah thats right! Coop for blood 2 multiplayer. I played it only for a few seconds so far but there were no bugs as I played. Until, of course, I got the damn MFC error again!

The error's report. The application that fails crashes is Client.exe(btw the error is the client mfc error just incase you couldent tell). Then below there it says that mss32.dll is having a fault. Coincidentally this file is also in blood 2's directory. PS: I copied the same file from my shogo game(which has the same game engine but doesnt recieve the error) and replaced it with blood 2's file but the error still popped up. However, recently ive been getting this error log instead:

I don't know what's going on. I had a 1920x1200 resolution in setup launcher but now it's gone. I can only choose 1280x1024. What the hell?

You can still edit the requested resolution to the autoexec.cfg.

if you set the compatibility mode to 98, then that's why.
Checking around with some other Lithtech engine games like Blood2, most people are pointing at various antivirus programs or firewalls flagging sres.dll and blocking it from working. (sres.dll is located inside the blood2.rez file in the main folder)
Aliens vs. Predator 2, Tron 2.0 and Shogo forums seem to have posts regarding this MFC error and they all use the Lithtech engine also.
Guess what I'm saying is, try disabling any antivirus programs and firewalls you have just to see if the problem goes away.

You're right Entropy, thanks.
ILiveAGAIN, I tried to switch off comodo firewall and no32 antivirus but with no success. I'm still getting a MFC error :( Can you tell me the name of the forum you were talking about?
--edit--
Is it LithFAQ forum?

I had this exact same problem, everytime I would try to start the game I would crash with the same error. I have a Phenom II x4 965, nvidia 285gtx and win7 64bit. I set the game to run in win95 compatibility mode and it runs just fine at 1024x768. If I go higher it crashes and sometimes it still crashes on exit, but I can still play the game as long as I want without crashes.
There are 2 things that make this error really take the cake:
1. Lets say you just editted all the controls and other options. You play for a while and the error pops up. Well guess what! Those settings you just made are gone! Why!?!? Because Blood 2 doesnt save them until you leave the game. Another thing is, when you leave the game the error could pop up. So, there are many chances of loosing your settings.
2. When you join a multiplayer server and play for awhile you still have a chance of getting the error. If you do happen to get this error you will not be able to join that server again because everytime you attempt to join the error will pop up!
...Yeah ILiveAGAIN I cant get into your server LOL.
PS: This is why the cake is a lie!

I'll restart my server, maybe it will help you get back in?
It seems many Lithtech engine games have this error. Doing a quick google search will have threads pop up from AvP2, Tron and even crossfire. it seems very random and no one seems to have figured it out. Like I said, alot seem to think it's antivirus or firewall blocking access to some of B2's files.

Unfortunatly, that has not fixed it. Which confuses me. Another thing that confuses me is that if many lithtech engine games are having it, why isnt my copy of shogo mad getting it? I could run shogo: mad at the highest resolution with no problems. The error seems to be related to the "client.exe". As you can see in the error log i posted, it mentions something about client.exe. I believe this is the file that gets patched in order to run the game with no-cd because when you run "client.exe" it comes up with the message box "No game resources specified." which is the same thing I get when I run shogo's client.exe, which I have also patched with a no-cd patch. If client.exe is the problem, then we probably have no choice but to wait for gog to fix it. Btw thanks for the help ILiveAGAIN.

The game needs to be told where the game resources are (ie. BLOOD2.REZ), which is what the launcher does. Launching the client without command line arguments its normal behaviour is to produce this error message.
Getting the same errors as well. Tried to even run it under every Windows Version, all with Run As Admin checked on and off. Still get the MFC crash to desktop.
Win7 64bit
i7920
Radeon HD 5850
Same here, sent a mail to GoG's technical area and still havnt received anything from them(it's been 5 days).

try disabling Directx 6 commands on the Advanced options on the game launcher
