Does this mean we shouldn't use any of the Patch links on page 1 or that we should just not use the High Res patch?

It means you shouldn't download anything from Demonoid. That link was removed some time ago.

On page 1, in the first post there is three links:

The latest version (12/28/2009) of the fan patch. Essential. Must have. Get it here.
http://www.terra-arcanum.com/downloads/arcanum/fixes/UAP091225.exe

High-quality townmaps (Better looking in-game maps, also fixes some potential missing map errors):
http://www.terra-arcanum.com/downloads/arcanum/fixes/HQ_Townmaps.exe

And the High Resolution Patch. Weidu-based, so follow the directions to set it up for your system. Will allow you to run Arcanum at pretty much ANY resolution, provides an optional "compact" UI and optional high-res fonts:
http://www.terra-arcanum.com/downloads/arcanum/highres/HighRes1.1a.exe

The website from which those are from is not called Demonoid. Should they also not be downloaded?

DEMONOID. The link was deleted.

www.terra-arcanum.com is safe. It's where I downloaded UAP & HQ_Townmaps from. Get the HighRes1.1a.exe there as well if you want it.

Please specify what patches did you install. Also, by change, did you install the game under program files folder? If you did, uninstall and reinstall game somewhere else (say c:\games or similar).
I downloaded the first patch. The essential one.
But when i try to install none of the files seem to be able to install.
It tells me that there are issues and i cant install any of the files, do i move on to the next patch?

EDIT: I reinstalled the game and got rid of all old game saves, that did the trick.

I need help please. I play Acranium with the the three essential patches Pandaman recommended (community unofficial patch, the better town maps, and finally the high resolution mod). The problem I have is the world map.... my resolution is set at 1920x1080 and I can't make out the travel points/markers on the World Map. I have the font for the UI set at 18 font BTW. What I need is a way to read the world map by using a zoom function (which does not exist as of yet and would have to be written by someone other than me who has the Talent for such things) or changing the high resolution mod for just the world map (most likely deleting the HR mod World Map file BUT I have absolutely no idea what file that would be). So please someone please help... pretty please. :)

Thanks for your help,
Cheers

Use resolution patch again and change resolution to lower one.

Bigger resoultion in 2D games makes everything smaller.

Yep, same with my me, good catch.
Just uninstalling and reinstalling wasn't enough, uninstalling the saves was also necessary.
I have the original real CD of arcanum, well cds, is there a patch for that now that the dev is gone? or do i have to buy gog to get it to work, as i have win 7 64 bit and the game doesnt run, barely installs correctly same with nox and many others gog has to offer but i own, and would like to not pay again though I do love gog :P
just seems bad to have to pay for a patched game vs the real deal

can my original game be patched somehow to work with newer systems?

deus ex, nox, arx fatalis, and many more dont run at all but I read here they do !

hope someone sees my call for help sorry if this is the improper forum thread but its relating to patching arcanum

I don't get it. I have Windows 7 32 bit.

I installed Arcanum, works great. Installed the high-quality townmaps. Works great. Then, when I install the High Resolution Patch and try to start the game, it's just a black screen. The computer is not locked up but I can't go to task manager and I cannot CTRL-ALT-DEL or anything. I end up having to push reset on my computer.

I've tried running High-Res as administrator, and tried a variety of different resolutions.

The only thing I can think is that maybe I should not install Arcanum inside of Program Files? Has this happened to anyone else? I can't figure out what the problem is.

THIS FIXED IT: Also right click the arcanum shortcut, select properties and add "-no3d -doublebuffer" to the end without " ". (should look something like this C:\games\GOG.com\Arcanum\Arcanum.exe -no3d -doublebuffer)

I see you have it working, but yes as a rule you should install old games outside of Program Files.
Thanks for this link :)
