A screenshot and the term metroidvania is all I needed to hear to give it a try, but I was pleasantly surprised to find it executes on this premise *very* well.
The RPG elements are light, but really add another layer of depth to the play, allowing your experience to differ if you choose a different specialization.
Needless to say, I'm loving it.
I really like this game. Wasn't sure if I would but thought at the price it was worth a shot. Glad I did. I guess I'm about halfway through but I can't put it down and for me that's a clear sign of a great game. Give it a try you won't be disappointed.
The whole concept is great, and the game is a lot of fun. There are many issues in this game that lowered my enjoyment:
a) the humour is too much cliché
b) the inventory system is terrible - no autosorting, a lot of manual shuffling needed
c) the storage space (your bank) is terrible
d) some of the quests are downright annoying - especially when you are tasked to retrieve something in many rooms you have just went through, and the items were not visible before
e) some of the re-spawning enemies are quite inconvenient when you need to pass that room quickly
f) the save system is a total failure (a.k.a "do you want to quit? all your unsaved progress will be lost. be we won't tell you where your last save is")
Still, I played the whole game and I liked it. The environment was very variable, there were a lot of weapons, potions, spells, enemies, pets, etc. The music and sound effects were satisfactory (nice job with the laughing skulls). The bosses were interesting (although some of them also very annoying). The concept of lighting up the rooms is very clever and satisfying. The hotkeys approach could use some improvements (wrt to the inventory), but it is quite convenient as well.
I haven't tried the multiplayer yet, I'm really afraid it can get too much addictive :-)
You can get a Steam key on webpage homepage, and there should be a Linux version in development (I truly hope they finish it soon).
Overall, thumbs up.
Everything about this game speaks of nostalgia from the old pen and paper table top adventure type story line to the retro platformer graphics. Depending on how your character levels, can make the game difficult or easy. The game to me was meant to be lighthearted and fun and plays that way for me though I have seen people trying it melee and have a much more difficult run through. Lots of easter eggs also make you feel like the game connects with you. I would love to see a sequel with updated graphics.
I think it's a very rare game with Chinese language on GOG,and thanks to the transator ,make this game very humorous. And there is a lot of fun in the game , thanks again !
