Description
While taking a break from playing a tabletop RPG, Daniel, an average guy from modern times, is transported to Harnakon’s Castle. Thinking that he is suffering from a hallucination, he decides that he is going to run the adventure for as long as the illusion lasts. As he explores the castle, fights the monsters within, and even casts potent magical spells, Daniel comes to realize that not everything is as it seems.

Unepic heroically combines open-world platforming gameplay with the intricacy and challenge of the RPG. Tweak Daniel’s skills to your heart’s content. Fight a bewildering variety of monsters, from the lowly goblin to the gigantic dragon, with over 100 different weapons. If forbidden magics are more your calling, then 70 spells and magical items will please even the most discriminating would-be wizard. For masochists, by the end

Summary - Game for masochists or those with a lot of time on their hands. This is an initially fun metroidvania game (it is four stars for a while) that gets worse over time. Level design is sometimes poor, and some monsters are incredibly irritating (e.g. Jesters and Invisible thieves). I gather this is a metroidvania staple though, so if you like metroidvanias, not necessarily a negative. The game is only too happy to suddenly difficulty spike with no warning. The inventory is a horrible time-wasting mess. After about 60-70% of the way through it turns into a bit of a grind and increeasingly the game seems to just start focussing on being difficult for the hell of it, or to to prevent the player 'winning'. I actually failed to finish, which is a rarity for me, because I simply couldn't stomach the repetition of running through the same non checkpointed endgame sequence ad nauseum. The main character and the humour are puerile. BUT - it is fun, even a bit addictive for a while, and is pleasantly challenging until it tips into being unfun, and I certainly got my money's worth on entertainment time, I guess. However I really hate not completing something I started, and the game devolving to the point of just not being fun is a pretty big sin in my book. I almost feel like giving it two stars, this annoys me so much, but for the time it was enjoyable I think that is unfair - three it is. My advice - if you like metroidvanias, try to find a better one than this! IF you have played them all already, give this a go.

Good gameplay and must have Indie game

This is one of those games everyone should have in their collection. It is nice, nerdy, funny and loaded with references to movies etc. Gameplay is very good and the progression in this game is neither hard nor easy but it poses as a fun game which is worth your dime. I am playing and enjoying it daily, I am playing it on my Linux machine.

Great game even in 2018, different

I was lucky enough to get this game when it was on discount, at about 1$. It was definitely worth it. So many games are overpriced and similar nowadays, so this game was like a fresh breeze for me. Even though it was made in 2011, i still find it quite enjoyable. Game like this, and by saying it i mean RPG and platform, brings back my childhood memories. Also, the game contains a lot of witty and funny jokes throughout the whole(i suppose at least, because i'm somewhere in the middle) experience. I recommend it to everyone who would like to play more classic RPG.

Quite a fun & entertaining game

I have very much enjoyed playing this game. I found the humour entertaining, although I think it loses some of its flow and spiciness when translated into English audio (I tend to prefer subs over dubs for this reason, but I needed to have English audio to be able to concentrate sufficiently on in-game speech, so I stuck with the slightly awkward affectation of the English acting). I appreciate the RPG mechanics implemented in a platformer. The exploratory aspect of the game - discovering hidden areas and new sections of the castle - is something I thoroughly enjoy. I found the gameplay mechanics pleasurably complex and interesting. The difficulty of some areas in the game (the damned undead!) I found to be very tedious when playing on hard++ difficulty, but most of the challenge in the game is reasonably surmountable . I would have liked the control of the character to be a bit tighter - i sometimes did not manage to control the character with a level of finesse I would have preferred from such a platformer. I would recommend the game as a good addition to someone's library

3.75 out of 5

I like this game the comedy is VERY childish or boorish to be exact teenage male weeb stuff. The real problem is in pacing and control, while at a glance it is very simple and rather easy. After a bit it turns into a make this perfect just slide forward stop spot trap dive dodge "none of these actions exist". The graphics do not convey what is needed to be known and you will die a lot because of this. There is also an unfinished way about unepic which may be intentional but it detracts. Controller support is terrible so I had to use keyboard. This is really a sub genre of RPGs which has existed for a long time. Worth a play but I won't worry about beating it.
