About the Game:

Play an RPG with meaningful, world-altering choices, unique and memorable companions, and a new perspective on morality. Tyranny casts you as the arbiter of law in a world devastated by war and conquered by evil -- what definition of justice will you mete out with your words and deeds?

From the narrative masterminds at Obsidian Entertainment, Tyranny is a classic-styled RPG with a new and original story, shaped and molded by your actions. The very layout of the world will be altered by your decisions as you choose sides, make allies and enemies, and fight for your own vision of law and order in an immersive and reactive story.

Main Features:

Branching, unique stories in an original setting:

The battle between good and evil has already taken place, and evil stands victorious

Choices matter –  make world-altering decisions with far-reaching consequence:

As a Fatebinder in the Overlord’s army you wield a vast amount of power in the occupied lands of the Tiers. Will you use that to inspire stability and loyalty, will you be feared, or will you seek your own power?

Challenging, classic RPG combat:

Tactical real-time-with-pause combat with new party-driven mechanics and modern presentation

A rich original setting:

Not just another “hero’s journey” -- Tyranny turns the archetypal RPG story on its head and allows players to explore a new take on good and evil

Refreshing setting and overall good RPG

A thing I thought was great and fresh was the setting. I think western RPGs have a bit of a style overload when it comes to “traditional western late medieval” aesthetic. You know, knights, full plate, jousting, things like that. So I like that Tyranny went more in the ancient direction, sort of cusp of the Iron Age. It actually played well into the story, and I loved how “smelting iron” was in itself presented as a bit of a mystical thing, with the Forgebound. Another thing – I like how your role as a Fatebinder, a judge and executioner in one, made it easy to justify you passing judgement on passerbys, or offering your opinion in moral dilemmas. Often it feels a little artificial, because why would a random nobody care for your opinion if you’re just a random adventurer/soldier, but here passing judgement is LITERALLY YOUR JOB, and it makes it fit. I did like the companions, too. That being said – is it just me, or did some companions got more shafted than others in the quest department? Now, there were also some things that I didn’t think worked so well. Overall, it sometimes felt to me like the game was written with the baseline of a certain path, and then the other path was like a path applied ontop of it. Despite those small gripes I think Tyranny was a pretty good RPG, with enough freshness in it’s setting and worldbuilding to make it stand out a little. I had fun the entire way playing it. If you think you could enjoy seeing a newcomer discover it, you can see my blind playthrough here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6AaQvxE1pg&list=PLp4TpsJ7HUWUxjukIOb8KpBwdLzKwezL7

Responsibility

This is a great game! Intriguing to the end and beyond... This is an old-school RPG, lots of text, colorful characters, exciting events. Many questions that remain unanswered pull into this World. Many of the answers and the characters stay with you after going through and out there.. your part lives waiting for more stories in this world... Always when I think about Tyranny, about Kairos, about my role in the lives of thousands of People, about the outcome that I chose .. Warmth fills my heart, although I have had mistakes that I would like to correct, but this game is not about that. It teaches you responsibility for your actions, it teaches you to accept the pain of loss, draw conclusions and move on

4.5, mostly for bugs/editing

Overall, I loved this game. The premise, the world, the roleplaying, the dark humor, the ending... (There's also some outstanding voice acting. Voices of Nerat, I'm looking at you.) But. The game sometimes crashes, and there were some proofreading errors in the written stuff (mostly in the DLC). Not egregious, but immersion-breaking. I had trouble deciding between 4 and 5 stars, but I'm going to round up since I just finished my fourth playthrough, and the fact that I wanted to play it four times in a row really says something.

10/10

Looks shallow at first but the worldbuilding turns out to be very deep and interesting. One of the best CRPGs I’ve played.

Great game, solid world and gameplay

The game looks and plays great, and the story is suprisingly refreshing. The ability to play the other side in a conquest is something I've missed in a long while. The games does that thing that I really hate that it throws a bunch of names, terminologies, fantastic names and isms, but eventually it starts to make sense and once you get a grasp on the world it really draws you in. Absolute must buy for fans of Isometric RPG's
