This is what it would feel like if Frodo and Sam had the help of the Great Eagles at the beginning of The Fellowship of the Rings!
What a fun dogfighting simulator. The dynamics of fighting aloft a giant bird is interesting and fun to master. Swoops, dives, sharp rolls and abupt stops midair are some of the tricks you can't get in most flight simulators but is the bread and butter in The Falconeer. Interacting with the environment is fun too, with lots of updrafts and jetstreams you can take advantage in both dogfights and long idle reconnoiter of the mid-sized world map. Its no massive open world but actively seeking out or chancing upon various points of interests has a fun rhythm to it. I cant tell yet how difficult of a game this can get (I am only several hours in) but I am having a lot of fun fliting in the air dodging canon fire and diving into the sea to catch fish to feed my warbird.
Oh, and if you have access to a flight stick definitely play using that!
This is a fun, beautiful and cinematic game, with lot of factions and lore, nice upgrades and a great open-world exploration concept. The learning curve is steep but rewarding. I'm enjoying it a lot after almost giving up within the first hour ^^'
A couple of things to keep in mind: the camera is hard to follow sometimes, and getting killed at the end of a quest means to restart the whole quest, which can be frustrating.
Certain parts of the mechanics would benefit from additional explanations, as they can be confusing, like: certain items, leveling up, inter-chapter progress or the classes (which seem to have a pretty minor role, as you can and should buy better mounts inside each chapter. It's true that some class' mounts are really pretty tho).
Also, the select button on the controller should be able to open the world map, as it is cumbersome to access it from the pause menu each time.
If youre holding the dash button, and make any teeny adjustment, you will roll an unbreakable spin-dodge move that shoots you over there and if you dont think this is a problem, attempt the first simple race and try to hit gates. You cant change this specific control, only the binding. Im stuck with it. i hate it. for me I cannot make it work. for me, literally unplayable. its frustrating because I loved it until I was physically incapable of hitting the objective
would give it 5 stars, but there's a bit of a problem with your status: you cannot see how much splinter you have unless you go to a shop, you cannot change the order of your weapon's ammo unless you sell it all then rebuy it, which makes the ammo you evolved useless (this is for when you lose some ammo and need to train new one), there's no clear way of knowing how you lvl up your char, sometimes you finish a quest and you get no xp, and sometimes you do.
