ABOUT TOMAS SALA
Tomas Sala is an independent game artist and designer as well as the co-founder of game studio Little Chicken Game Company. Tomas is best known to most gamers for his exotic Skyrim Mod series: Moonpath to Elsweyr, and has developed a unique visual style over the years that have helped turn helped turn games such as Rekt! (iOS/Switch), SXPD (iOS) and TrackLab (PSVR) into unique visual and interactive experiences
The combat of the game is pretty good but the VAST, LIFELESS world is painful to navigate and covered in mist that occasionally makes it hard to know if you are level, ascending, or descending. The quests are basically the same over and over again; you just fly in a different direction each time. The flight and combat are pretty enjoyable, but I cannot get through the slog of the rest of the game.
This is a slow-burn open world game less focused on the minutia and mechanics of it's combat than on creating a beautiful, haunting atmosphere for it's mysterious world.
It's gotten increasingly ambitious as development has progressed adding more side activities and quests. Wide, rather than deep is the tradeoff here, however.
I've finished the game twice coming back for a second playthough on hardcore difficulty after only three months which is an incredibly quick return for me. The game made such a strong impression it never quite left my thoughts.
I'm back for more right now due to the incredibly generous and continual content updates. This is an incredibly approachable and responsive developer that cares deeply about the game.
It's a true passion project with a singular vision and all that entails. It's not going to connect with everyone, definitely, but if it does connect with you it'll never let go
I purchased this game with the DLC's just necause i loved the idea behind it, without knowing what the game actually was.
Pros:
*The Idea is GREAT
*Really liked Art-style and atmosphere.
Cons:
*Controls are HORRIBLE, you are slow, your bird bounces off walls and objects, trying to control the camera will make you go mad. Worst is you cant separte the keys for speeding up and doind the barrel roll, in time trials you will see how funny it is when your bird does a barrel roll when trying to just speed up and going left or right.
*Completly unnecesary leveling system: Why? just...why?
*Completly unnecesary open world: World it's too big, again...WHY?, most of the time you will be making fast travels, yeah, hear this, it is boring to fly...IN A FLYING GAME!
*No moves besides the Barrel Roll, in a BIRD flying game, i would love if it war more dynamic. Like, a charge forward at full speed, melee atacks, doing a roll vertically. This makes for boring combat, there is no strategy, you get killed extremely fast, it's slow and you have no options.
*Missions are BORING: There is no variation, Go there, kill, come back. Or just, go there, come back. Or, go there, get inside the town, come back. ANd i feel the open world is what makes missions so boring, Dev needs to play Ace combat, it is a Flying game but missions are SO DIVERSE, it never gets boring, you do so much stuff, even if it is a linear story.
*Small variation of weapons, and they are extremely boring to use.
I tried, REALLY TRIED, to love this game, went to do sidequest to unlock birds, upgraded weapons and did everything i could.
But dindt managed to push myself trough act 1, left it at the missión where yu hunt the pirate lord and fight that kinda boss.
i really hope for Falconeer 2 if it someday releases, to be a complete improvement over this first game.
I am really enjoying this game. The combat is fun, the exploring is worth it. The performance is great, no issues at all. I'm not much for words, so I will say this, the Overall Most Helpful review by 8bitsChris is spot on, and he says it best.
Also this review where the guy needed more space, I suggest reading this

Sorry, but I am terrible at writing reviews, so I would rather point to reviews that I feel say it best.
Happy flying.
Just the idea of flying a giant falcon in the middle of nowhere is great enough ! Played with a mouse, 13h main storyline. Super easy to control, you get used to it after a few seconds - just watch your turning sensitivity. Great storyline thru the wast of the ocean, with historic relics, cliff carved cities and various enemies. Interesting and pretty game for an advanturer.
Only two minuses: 1 - it's a shame the DLC isn't included in the original, I feel like the DLC is a bit too pricy for what you get - probably worth to get on discount; 2: at the beginning doesn't seem like it, but the game is pretty much war-based - if there were a few more nicer missions, it would raise the overall 'wow' from the game
