A Story About My Uncle is a first person platforming adventure game about a boy who searches for his lost uncle, and ends up in a world he couldn’t imagine existed. Take help of your uncle’s mysterious inventions that let you jump incredibly high and far through beautiful scenery, uncover clues to your uncle’s whereabouts, and meet fantastical creatures that will help you on your journey.
The movement in A Story About My Uncle is a crucial part of its core gameplay – focusing on swinging through the world with a grappling hook that gives the player a wonderful sense of speed and freedom. Soar through a game world with a unique art style and a mysterious story that unravels before you.
Grappling hook: An empowering mechanic that gives you a sensation of speed, flow and vertigo like you’ve never experienced before.
Explore the world: Visit a wonderful and exciting world - from paradisal caves, to lost civilizations and harsh, mystical landscapes.
Emphasis on story: While searching for your uncle you will meet creatures with stories and fates of their own. Take your time to explore the world to dig deeper into the narrative.
Non-violent: A Story About My Uncle is a First Person game, but it is driven by non-violent gameplay and a heavy emphasis on story and atmosphere.

... due to some dodgy handling, unclear level design and time lost on each failure.
Too bad, the sound and artistic directions were interesting enough, but the gameplay is a chore...
A competent first creation from Gone North Studios that combines satisfying momentum/precision based platforming puzzles with minor amounts of exploration and some cringe-worthy voice acting. Can be finished in a single sitting (roughly four hours) and has enough varied landscapes, puzzles, and power-ups to keep you entertained throughout the journey. Recommended that you play on mute as the music is predominantly non-existent and the voice overs are sub-par at best. Could benefit from more open areas with which to fully stretch your legs but the game never quite delivers such an area. Also there are invisible walls and times when your powers are forcibly taken away so more exposition can be rambled at you in this game about freedom of movement. Worth picking up on sale.
I thought this came was wonderful. The atmosphere caught from the first step you take into your uncle's cabin, passing the windows over-looking a winter landscape at night, the beautiful, noticable Swedish accents of the narrator and voice-artists, and how it quickly thrusts you into another world. It takes the simple and makes it fantastical.
The story is only there to allow you to progress to something, but the time you spend in the silence, far above or within these beautiful landscapes makes you think about it, and I became surprisingly emotionally invested - and felt sort of snubbed by the ending, leaving me with a pleased, bitter-sweet feeling. Then I played it again, trying out different paths, finding new and unintended paths, trying to get the time challenges, jump challenges and so on.
I recommend buying it on a sale. The reviews here are mixed, but I enjoyed it. For exactly ten hours, and since then I have probably spent another two-three hours thinking about it and how much I enjoyed it. Also, the story is deeper than you think at first. Enough to make you a little sad.
Good-bye!
Very original, very rare and valuable. For the price it is a bargain. Many other reviewers here are probably so spoiled by the latest modern AAA titles that they are seeking so much for something which absolutely not the point of this title and they never see the sheer beauty of this adventure. They are probably looking for a game, for mechanics, opponents, violence, competence, score and whatnot. This is not about playing a game, this is about fantasy, about experiencing a dreamlike journey. One of those you will hardly convince yourself to interrupt before you make it all through.
If you are capable of indulging yourself in an amazing fantastic world full of wonders and "fly" your way through different places like those on Pandora from Avatar movie (also google pictures from artist Roger Dean to see what I mean) never hesitate and play this ! The journey will take you from moisty underworld jungle into enormous caverns with frog people living in a village built from trash deeper into dark regions where only plants illuminate pitch darkness until you finally emerge into beautiful vast skyshores with floating masses of landscapes... and there's also enormous tranquil-blue ice cavern with crystals everywhere... This world is so BIG and vast, you will travel miles and miles making giant jumps and leaps and you will fly and swing. This felt like the best dreams you can ever have. The story is narrative in a way that you are telling about your fantastic journeys about seeking your uncle who disappeared in these worlds to your daughter as a bedtime story. Personally I have made a strong bond with this world because it reminds me so much of many of my own dreams... in one of them a grandpa of mine has me in his workshops and invites me to visit places where he lives now. And he shows me a device that will take me there... and indeed I paid him a visit in these worlds of fantasy...
This is the best Spiderman game that isn't a Spiderman game. The mechanics of the grapple feel so refined and tight, and the addition of the charged jumps plus the rocket pack give you a lot of options on how to do what is ostensibly rather simple platforming in flashy, fast, and satisfying ways. The addition of the time trials and a couple of optional challenges throughout the story give you even more challenge, and something to come back to once your done with the main game. Aside from the amazing mechanics, the story is serviceable, and stays mostly out of the way as it should, the graphics are pleasant if not rough around the edges, the soundtrack is forgettable, but thankfully none of these are bad enough to get in the way of enjoying the main meat of the game.
If you're upset with the controls, I can really only say that you're just doing it wrong and are not good enough, but keep trying and you will find there is a lot of skill and nuance to find in how you play.
