Description
A Story About My Uncle is a first person platforming adventure game about a boy who searches for his lost uncle, and ends up in a world he couldn’t imagine existed. Take help of your uncle’s mysterious inventions that let you jump incredibly high and far through beautiful scenery, uncover clues to your uncle’s whereabouts, and meet fantastical creatures that will help you on your journey.

The movement in A Story About My Uncle is a crucial part of its core gameplay – focusing on swinging through the world with a grappling hook that gives the player a wonderful sense of speed and freedom. Soar through a game world with a unique art style and a mysterious story that unravels before you.
  • Grappling hook: An empowering mechanic that gives you a sensation of speed, flow and vertigo like you’ve never experienced before.
  • Explore the world: Visit a wonderful and exciting world - from paradisal caves, to lost civilizations and harsh, mystical landscapes.
  • Emphasis on story: While searching for your uncle you will meet creatures with stories and fates of their own. Take your time to explore the world to dig deeper into the narrative.
  • Non-violent: A Story About My Uncle is a First Person game, but it is driven by non-violent gameplay and a heavy emphasis on story and atmosphere.

Trial and error orgy

I mean... I really liked the setting. I loved the idea of a father telling his little daughter a fanciful good night story about her great uncle. It's imaginatively - it's beautiful... it has a lovely soundtrack. Well ... yes it is a platform, jumping puzzle game. And yes it should be tricky. But 'Story about my uncle' ends up to be a trial and error orgy. There is a lot of guesswork where and when to jump how far and in which -exact- direction. Leave alone that the 'hit box' of you grab device is very, very small. I had several sections where I had to test out within about ten runs or so to memorize where and when to jump, run, not run, but use the rockets, twist and turn on which direction to finally miss the target for the grab device... I still really like the game - but if you ask yourself if you should add it to your collection be aware that it can be very frustrating. Unless you are younger than 15 years, grown up with a gamecontroller in your hands and you got more than quite good situational awareness you will most likely struggle with the difficulty. If you tend to choleric attacks you should not even consider trying 'A story about my uncle'.

Please Sir !, May I have some more !

I have bought tihs game for friends and family. I originally bought it on Steam. Now I have bought it on Gog. I think I have bought it 5 times now, lost count, I really want them to make another this time longer game play. I am not a " Gamer " but I really enjoyed this Game. I play it again when I am bored, it's the third game I have finished. Super Mario Bros, Crysis 3 and A Story about my Uncle. It can be frustrating in spots especially if you fail to get past a point it automatically moves you ahead after a number of failed attempts. Obviously I recommend it.

So worth it! And learn the alphabet!

I decided to give this a go since it was on sale. Boy, was I surprised. First, this game is gorgeous and I am still wondering how it even worked smoothly on my computer (I have a 2009 iMac with a core 2 duo and a 256 mb radeon). I was so drawn by the gameplay, the story and the environment that I finished it in one sitting (and it took me over 8 hours). It's not a very long game, but it's like it was supposed to be: short and sweet. There are collectibles attached to achievements that give you something extra to look for during a replay, and that unlock some new features. I will not dwell on the details because there are other reviews that have done that very well already. If you are reading this during a sale, don't think twice and give it a go! Don't forget to enjoy and explore the places thoroughly. TIP: the world includes a special alphabet used for things you find along the way. You can learn to read it in two ways, either by copying some text that the game will give you a translation of (and solving the puzzle) or finding the translation-sheet in game at a certain moment, in "someone's" possession. Reading what you find will enhance the immersion incredibly! If you are too lazy for that, you can find the alphabet and/or the translations online as well, but I truly recommend the experience of reading yourself.

Forgot about the real world...

Obviously, i can't say that this is a one of the best games of all time, but i really enjoyed it. Good mechanics, great design, beautiful soundtrack... all is great. Take a cup of tea, turn off the lights, sit comfortably and dive into this world

Amazing!

Swinging around with a grapple-hook only gets more fun as the game goes on! (though there are one or two really frustrating parts) and while at first the story appears to be a bit on the thin side, you can hunt around (and learn the alien alphabet) to find added depth and details that really enhance it. While the game is very linear, I would recommend playing it again soon after completing it. Having mastered more complicated puzzles and manoeuvres in the later levels, you'll find yourself swinging freely and effortlessly through most of the game, removing a lot of the challenge (and frustration) and making it almost zen-like fun!
