Doom Eternal as it should have been.

A great mix of Doom '94, Doom 2016, and a little bit of build engine game style. Fast, fluid and visceral gameplay. Complex maps which are worth exploring, great sound and the graphics style is excellent. Well worth it.

Great Retro Shooter, Lame Checkpoints

This game is so much fun, i refuse to deduct any stars just because of a dumb checkpoint system. It basically works like this... First of all, you can't save/load your progress. And when you die, you will respawn at a nearby "nexus point" with 100% health and ZERO progress lost. All enemies you killed remain dead. It sort of works the way Vita Chambers do in Bioshock or Restoration Bays in System Shock. It's kind of a bummer and removes some difficulty from an otherwise challenging game. BUT, who cares? Because this game is incredibly fun and here's why! - Tons of well designed and powerful weapons! Just to name a few... a quad shotgun, plasma rifle, and a "swarmer" that fires a barrage of lock-on micro missiles. All weapons have a great alternative fire mode and add plenty of variety to the combat. - Well designed levels with plenty of secrets! You find key-cards and navigate classically designed FPS levels, but there's a great variety of environments and each place you go has a unique feel to them. - Lots of different enemies! There's a reason Wolfenstein 3d didn't age well while classic doom is still a blast to play. You'll encounter plenty of different enemies that each have their own way of attacking to the player. This keeps the player on their toes at all times! - AMAZING SOUNDTRACK. Andrew Hulshult's work on Dusk, Amid Evil, and Doom Eternal's DLCs were fantastic. And this game is no different. You'll have lots of head banging tunes to jam to while killing stuff in this game. - It's also worth mentioning that despite being made in the Unity Engine, this game performs well on most PCs and looks really good for a retro FPS game. That's all i got! Prodeus is a blast from the past and any fan of retro shooters should pick this up immediately!

An quality throwback to Classic Doom

Prodeus is a game that replicates the structure and design of Classic Doom, and it largely succeeds. The map designs are excellent; varied and full of secrets. The weapons feel great and have impactful gunshot sounds. The enemies explode in fountains of blood. If you want a game that feels like Classic Doom but with some of the visceral qualities of Brutal Doom, this is definitely worth a look. My main complaint is with the theming of the levels and enemies. There's a lot of drab tech environments and the enemies don't express any personality. Despite the gameplay being very fun, the charmless theming did eventually become tiring for me. It leads to the experience feeling samey and repetitive over time. Prodeus needs more charisma, like a Cacodemon with a big toothy grin. But despite all that, Prodeus is quality and worthy of your time. The game ultimately succeeds at what it strives to do.

Back to Classic with Fun & Style!

It's been years I have not that kind of fun with a shooter. It's simply amazing.

Prodeus - the gatling gun of gaming

Big, flashy and loud, but best enjoyed in bursts. The movement in this feels great, and the weapons, although a little muted with regards to audio, feel powerful and have great visual feedback. It's a little hard to see what is going on at times, and it would be nice if we could use the Loadout screen to add or remove options from our arsenal - I'm about 8 maps into the game now, and I could quite happily do without the Shredder rifles or the pistol ever again, rather than having to scroll past them. My only real sticking point here is the lack of any real narrative, although given the type of game that Prodeus harkens back to (and improves upon) this is hardly a universal criticism. That and the visual effects, though I admit these can be reduced through the menu. Anyway, back to Prodeus. BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAP
