Not a bad game but not a great game either. Needs more quality of life improvements such as telling you how many runes (The things you need to collect to unlock weapons and augments) are in a level while in the level.
Gun play is ok. But in tight places, it can be hard to see when there is a lot of blood FX in your face which gives enemies free shots at you.
I decided to give its chance and buy this game altough generally I don't buy any EA game and I can say that I love it ! The felling is very good, gunfigts are very violent in a doom style universe.
As I said normaly I don't but an EA game but this one souds to be perfect, no bugs all is fluid and run perfectly. For those who loved FPS form the 90's this game is for you.
I backed this on Kickstarter and it's proven to be more than worth it - fast paced, gory, impactful sound effects, awesome music, cool enemy design, amazing visual style (ability to choose between 2d and 3d enemies is neat), good level design... so much to like!
Very little for me to critique - I've noticed some performance issues even on my 3090, but they're not common, and the menus feel kunky - having to press continue twice to get past one screen for example.
Can't wait for more! If you like Quake, Doom, etc this is a must buy!
I was moderately excited for this release but avoided supporting it in early access. Every reviewer I trust said it was amazing other than the checkpoint system. After playing through the whole game, I agree with them. I think every level is incredibly enjoyable right up until your first death. At that point, the fun is sucked right out of the room. I'm not sure if it can be fixed without altering the game further, so it's a bit of a smear on an otherwise good shooter.
Outside of that obvious issue, I do find Prodeus to be incredibly derivative. It wants to be DOOM so bad, practically begging you think of it in the same light. The monsters are the same, the attitude is the same, and weapons are the same. It wants that prestige of being a classic without earning it, in my opinion.
The visuals are stellar. Not much to say there. I do, however, find the enemies hard to see among all the clutter.
The biggest offense is the Quad Barrel Shotgun. Kinda sounds like slapping a slice of deli ham on a countertop.
As far as recommendations go, I think it's a pass for now. We are in a golden age of shooters and there are so many other games worthy of your support. See Cultic, Hedon, and Nightmare Reaper for shooters heavily inspired by the greats that take the extra step into being something special and unique.
This game satisfies all your senses and then some more. It scratces that ancient itch that started with pixelated FPS titan called Doom. Graphics are straight brutal retro eyecandy thrown at you with the modern GPU machinery. Maps are a joy to traverse, mammoth installations, huge processing alien factories, and as you advance to deeper levels maps become huge interdimensional spaces, corridors and halls. I loved the hall of credits with the faces of the dev team.
The game is merciless and throws everything at you, I decided to play in Hard level for starters, that way you get more toxic exploding meat to cut through since your guns are literally the wrath of God in a wide variety of satisfying bringers of merciless justice. You can almost feel in your hand the unnatural steel and the manly crafted mechanisms of your righteousness delivering tools. Despite the advanced hardware you get along the way I found myself coming back to the basic pistol firing single shots, it really feels and sounds like you are sending thunderous piercing bullets of pain.
I really love that in monster filled rooms and in boss fights you even get into a dance of death if you catch the rythm.
Sometimes you just want straight mayhem as in the old school of fps days, and the sensation of power, no tiresome story. This game delivers that and more.
