STAKE YOUR CLAIM

In the world of Going Medieval, dark age society is on its knees. At the end of the 14th century, 95% of the global population has perished due to rampant plague.

Eventually, survivors emerge from society’s ashes, and it’s now up to you to help them settle in a dangerous new land reclaimed by nature. Build your people a home, help shape their lives, and protect them from animals, bandits, and other dangers in a lawless post-calamity age.

BUILD YOUR FORTRESS

Design, build and expand your settlement from a small wooden hut into a colossal stone castle. With simple-to-use 3D terrain tools you can create the perfect stronghold, from winding underground caverns to sprawling multi-story forts.

DEFEND YOUR COLONY

This harsh new world is rife with external threats, but you can give your colonists the upper hand in battle by building impenetrable defences and traps. Research, craft and equip weapons and gear so that they can fight back against unrelenting waves of attackers.

PROTECT YOUR VILLAGERS

Your colonists have more than just raids to contend with. They need protection from starvation and the elements, so it’s essential to stock up on supplies and build shelter to keep them fed and warm. Maintain your villagers’ emotional states, as their moods are affected if their needs and wants aren’t met.

SHAPE YOUR STORY

Grow the population of your settlement by helping out strangers in dangerous situations, or by taking in like-minded travellers. Your villagers have personal histories and agendas, and you can get to know them by observing their behaviour and relationships with others.

A realistic Dwarf Fortress (Rimworld)...

The developers know what they're doing. I loved Dwarf Fortress and Rimworld. The one thing that bothered me about Rimworld was the fact that it was 2D, you couldn't dig or build down/up like in Dwarf Fortress. This game allows you to to do that. It isn't flat. It's set in a realistic medieval setting. You start out with a couple of villagers and supplies. One, two, three, or more, you decide at the start of each game (just like in Rimworld or Dwarf Fortress). The premise is the same: Survive. This game, although still in development, does a damn good job at everything. Its UI is very intuitive. The AI is good. Similar to Rimworld you can set priorities to jobs for each citizen. The weather and environment influences several things... You better not leave your food out in the rain, it will decay faster. Even if you keep it indoors and the temperature is too high, it will decay. You better start digging that basement or find other ways to preserve food. I'm loving this game. One of the guys in my current game keeps drinking all day long... gotta build a seperate storage to store and lock the alcohol away from him...

Grab it now and wait

As it is right now, I do recommend grabbing it for a couple hours or days of fun. In terms of longevity, it lacks contents right now but that will obviously change down the road. One the game gets more complete, it'll definitely be worth the invest of grabbing it early! If you buy this expecting to sink in hours like you do on rimworld then be prepared to keep an open-mind.

Great, awesome, wonderful game!

There would be SO MANY great features to talk about, but I´ll just mention the one which has impressed me even more than the others: the underground (literally!) related stuff. There is A LOT of development regarding temperature, food keeping, hiding, digging, structural integrity, etc., that whether the game happened fully and underground alone, it would already be worthy. Awesome!

A masterpiece of gaming art

A lot of building games are too simple. Press the mouse, and bang theres a house, next block do the same to build a unit, thats been done to the very death of the genre and beyond. Thats NOT this masterpiece of gaming art. This game reminds me of the first Stronghold, where as apposed to the usual building a wall and bang its built, this game has so much complex simplicity, that I can build exactly what I have invisioned that I want to build. I dig underground and if I dont put up support beams while digging like a real miner the mountain will cave in and destroy the castle above. Little things like I didnt know how to make wine for my settlers I just had femented fruits sitting in a built shelf, and then over time in storage it surprised me and turned into crude wine! I have built vast intricate castles which have all been different because of the landscape, abudance of resources, skills of settlers, seasonal weather and personal flair. On top of the intuitively easy building this game has really interesting, customisable settlers. You can tell the creators of Rimworld have made this game because of the depth of the settlers. Its sort of like The Sims, meets Shronghold, whos mates with Rimworld, in a beautiful 3D world, something worthly of having a computer to run on, unlike candy crush which really doesn't need the power of a computer to run it. It's computer resource light, and under 500MB. It is early access ( future potentuality! ). ZERO microtransactions. No buying customisations, its all there as a part of the game. There are a couple things they need to improve on: Castles need moats. And this game doesnt have rivers. Even though is it has snow which changes when a settler walks on it. It has rain, just no lakes, seas, streams, or moats. In normal difficulty I have played for hours contently to then have one settler join us, or one fight. Increase the amount of these interactions happening? The game fosters creativity. Time flys when your involved.

Having a blast

Started playing a bit over two days ago. How to put this... It's the sims of medieval city building: I did not see the 17h or so hours I put into it go. RIP my sleep schedule. There's a learning curve but it's not discouragingly punishing. It's pretty intuitive (had to check a couple of things online, roof building takes some getting used to, in my humblre opinion) but once you're off, you're off. Playing on normal : it's just challenging enough to spice up my gameplay at certain moments, while still allowing me to chill. Music is great. Animations are great. Graphics are great AND they work on my aging, can-barely-compete-with-a-toaster laptop. Having a blast. I often reach a moment of tedium in similar simulators (banished, forest village, dawn of man and the like), that feel of "my settlement is self sufficient I guess so why should I go on", and I have to say the RPG elements implementation is a great way to delay that moment. Very rewarding. AND it's still in dev?! It can only get better from here on?! dreamy!
