Good But Not As Great As Human Rev

IMPORTANT NOTE: Your Apartment is not a Safe like in HR. I found out the hard way. Yes there is a Wall Safe but it's limited. If you were planning to horde items until the end, you can't in this game. Either use them or sell them. Outside of the Mankind Divided is a pretty decent follow up to Human Revolution. For me HR The Directors Cut is almost a perfect game. It fixes the issues the original release had making for one of the best games in the series. I avoided MD until this GOG release and what GOG has done is a much improved version of the original game. However, it can't change the fact that this outing isn't as entertaining as HR. All of the gameplay is there, with some additional goodies. Jensen is still a great character to play. The options are there as far as how you can complete missions. However the world feels less alive even though it's larger and more populated. This also goes for the story, while serviceable, it is no where near as engaging, in the end it didn't keep my interest and I was left a bit unfulfilled. Overall it's not a bad game, it just doesn't improve upon the previous entry in any way significant. It's definitely worth checking out, especially when it's on sale here on GOG for an amazing price and DRM free. Let's hope Eidos gets another chance to make a third to round out a trilogy WITHOUT studio influence\greed (I'm looking at you Square).

A great game, a worthy continuation

So I first owned this game on PS4 and later on Steam, but I thought I would leave a review on GOG since I want to encourage people to purchase the game here. First off, it's a good game. The story doesn't exactly top that of Human Revolution, which I felt had interesting plot threads throughout. This game has a bit more of a linear and predictable feel to the story in comparison, but that doesn't make it any worse of a game per se. In terms of the gameplay though, the "immersive sim" style is entirely intact and refined here. As you would have come to expect from this series you have a multitude of ways to approach situations either stealthily or not, and with or without lethal force. There are now more options to flesh out both sides in terms of aug upgrades (for example, a non-lethal version of the Typhoon, or a bulletproof skin armor). I encourage players of this game to take their time and explore every nook and cranny possible. I believe no side mission should be skipped. If you enjoyed HR, you should not miss out on this game, especially not at the sale prices you could find it for here on this site and without DRM ($6.74 USD at the time of this writing).

Wow! I like it better that DE:HR.

- - May ##th, 2024 I just finished the main game and I love it. I didn't try the DLCs/expansions yet, but I don't see how could them change my opinion on this game. I came to this game expecting to like it less than DE:HR, given the reviews from other players. My is my build or maybe is my play-style (faces of the same coin, I know) but enjoyed DE:MD more than DE:HR. I play immersive-sims as stealth games, killing as little as I can (not on principle but for convenience) and exploring every nook and cranny before a quest take you there. Is true in this game you do lose the feel globetrotting. You do travel, not to cities, but to building/military-complex. Other than that, you only have Prague. And Prague great, is an interesting city with a lot to explore. I didn't felt the game is short in account of having only one city, I didn't felt is short at all. My graphic card clocked 98 hours for this game. One may do the argument in addition to the city of Prague there is a settlement, but you can also make the argument calling it a settlement is a stretch. The story is on the same level with previous entries of the game. May be is a tad less gritty than DE:HR. I specially enjoy how, as the story develop, is more in your face with the topic: mainstream journalism is just propaganda. This is a matter of taste and opinions, you may very well not be like it at all. PS: the augment to convert items into scraps for crafting is a God send.

Good, but truncated.

Gameplay: Great. It's Deus Ex with good graphics. What's not to love? Graphics: Great, if not all that well optimized. This is a pretty game. (Adam's head is strangely large, though - maybe to make sure all that crispy facial hair detail is visible on consoles?) Story: MEH. Meeeeeehhhhhhhhh. From premise to pacing, this game's narrative is an absolute mess. There are isolated stories and segments that are quite good - but as a whole, there just isn't any cohesion. Interesting things are teased, introduced, and promptly forgotten about. Conclusion: Not as good as Human Revolution overall, but very worth it on sale, especially at less than five bucks at time of writing. A great diversion to get into while you're waiting for Cyberpunk 2077 to finish baking post-release.

I didn't expect to like this game much.

I'm not much into these cyber games, but this wasn't bad at all. I didn't expect to play it right through. You play some near future cybernetically enhanced agent dealing with terrorist activities and what not. As you might expect things get a little more mysterious and soon find there are few people you can trust. Anyway, this has quite a lot of random stories and Questlines. There are a few I quite enjoyed because they made use of my suspicious nature. Don't trust someone just because they appear to be a 'victim'. 'Get the evidence applies' well here. The game also changes over time. You every now and then have to make quick decisions depending on your view of that person. You are also timed so can't sit there forever thinking about it. You must react there and then like in reality. Some of your decisions have real consequences into the game, so no pressure! It don't play silly 'sjw/pc' games either (or every little) which makes the game even more enjoyable. The upgrade mechanics seem convoluted at first but soon make a lot of sense. The shooting mechanics are pretty good. Great graphics, good people models, etc. Criticisms? Small ones. I'd like a custom avatar that I could make look like me. The city you're in isn't as big as it first appears. The train you take always has the same mother and small child that looks at you suspiciously. Sometimes forced to talk to a person I really don't feel like talking to. I was even quite sad when I finally completed it and might give it a second run.
