Really really enjoying playing the game what a detailed city and mind-blowing story can see me putting 200 plus hours into this game and not getting bored. Carnt wait for expansions to come out. Well done cd project red well done. Oh yeah it's got few bugs tell me a game this big that didn't have bugs GTA5
No improvements from player's perspective other than in graphics.
AI is still dumb as shit.
When you sneak your companions are invisible to the enemy no matter what. Enemies move and react slowly. As always, "hard" difficulty means more bullet sponges, not smarter enemies. I hpoed CDPR would make a difference here.
We still have level requirements for clothing and weapons.
The most annoying by far: TIME FREEZES WHEN NOT DOING MAIN QUESTS.
Remember when we had to track down Ciri? How we could take our sweet time despite every NPC telling us that we had to hurry or else? Well same here. No reward for those who hurry up or find shortcuts.
For a company that brags so much about having consecuences for every action, screwing over responsible players like this is not cool.
Also, a certain bad ending mentioned something bad would happen in 6 months, so i thought OK no big deal, I will spend those months fighting every second to solve it... then credits roll and game over. What the fuck man, 6 months is a lot of time. Let us fight until the end dammit! A certain person mentioned the problem might be solvable if we had a dedicated team, yet the game wont let us try and get it.
**Mild Spoilers Ahead**
We are against the clock, so I forsake a lot of side quests to get this over with and guess what? Shit ending. Turns out I was supposed to waste entire additional days doing something else when death could happen any moment now. We truly are supposed to shit on all warnings for things to end right.
Ok, so where to start. At first I was hyped and preordered it. After a day of playing I sobered up. Well, to me, the nightcity just doesn´t work as advertised. If you expect some gaming revolution, this is not it. The general AI is stupid as a tree, well, trees are smarter than this AI to be fair. NPC are stupid, doing stupid things, can´t drive, they have only two reactions and that is running away or crouching. The NC overall is full of walking deads. Those random small filling quests are over all city, but all of them are the same and you get bored by them rather quickly. It just misses all the variety and diversity which RDR 2 had. If you want virtual world which comes alive, NC is not it. It looks nice on first look, but it´s just a cheerleaders effect... But here comes the BUT. The main story and side quests of main NPC´s. Man, I just love it! I can feel with those characters, they are sad, I want to cheer them up, they want to do something irrational, I want to calm them down... Dialog options, their reactions, I love it. This is what I felt when I was playing witcher and they have done it again. If it wasn´t set in open world but more like something like GoW (rpg with some limited areas), it would be amazing, but this dead open world, it just doesn´t fit. But I still like it, like really like it. Sooo, even though there are bugs, every one of them were minor for me, more laughable than gamebreaking. The thing I don´t like and it bothers me is that NC is just doesn´t work and it is dead overall. I am afraid you can´t fix that. That´s why I don´t give it 5/5
PS. I still don´t get the fractions you get to choose at the start. I have 33hrs now ingame time, but I think it doesn´t matter at all which fraction you choose. It has absolutely no effect on playthrough at all. Looks like they had some ideas for this but there was no time to finish it.
Short Version: Ethical issues surround the last-gen console version releases, but this PC version is quite good with reservations and comes recommended, provided you have the hardware to meet the recommended specs, which are de facto minimum requirements. This review is based on 1.04.
Long Version: After completing the game and as many of the major sidequest chains as I could find, my verdict is that Cyberpunk is the best spiritual child of Deus Ex and Judge Dredd I've ever played.
Beginning with performance, it runs worse than expected, bounded by my Intel i5 8500 CPU. My RTX 2060 does a good job on non-RT and DLSS on at ultra, going between 40% and 80% use. In practice, the recommended specs CDPR gives are closer to the minimum needed for the game to run well at the moment, since my definition of well is 60fps. Patches may improve things.
On to bugs. It took me about 45 hours to complete the game. I had no crashes but did encounter many glitches I would consider mild or moderate in severity. There were two or three T-poses, for example. Interface elements like weapon stat pop-ups would remain onscreen until reloading occasionally. Frequent autosaves help with small issues like this. So does having an SSD so the game loads in under five seconds.
As pre-release press has discussed, the game is shorter than Witcher 3 in a way. The main plot alone is over quickly (I bet it could be rushed in 15 hours, not the 20 CDPR has suggested), but there are a lot of sidequest chains sprinkled throughout the game. Each of these is at least an hour long if not more and tend to center on one or two characters. I loved them as well as the main plot, featuring Keanu Reeves. Yes, he really CAN act. It was hard for me to believe growing up with the Matrix as I did, but he turns in a remarkable performance here.
Bugfixes and performance improvements will yield a 5* in my eyes. There are no downsides that cannot be fixed with patches.
To first address the elephant in the room, yes... It's not without bugs, crashes, and other things mentioned. But I've first played this on a PS4, and I can say that the PC version is like 1000x better than that.
Also, every CD Projekt Red release has been shaky. This is par for the course. The thing I've always enjoyed from them is the continued support and improvements made post-release. So my hopes for the game, long term, remain.
Holding this in comparison to games like Fallout, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, Elder Scrolls, and other first person RPGs, I think it carves out a really nice niche for itself. The game seems to hold fairly true to the source material of Cyberpunk 2020, and for me personally, could warrant a couple play throughs.
