A 7 year wait for a game that looks like a 7 year old budget title.
Textures simply don't load. The streets are depopulated, fps dips below 20 when driving and during combat, the AI often fails to react to their scripting, can't remap controls, the colors are all washed out, details are blurred as if the screen has been wiped with vaseline, the environments dont show the level of detail texture wise compared to any pre release footage and bullet holes don't even appear when shooting the walls!
All the above mentioned issues were found even AFTER the 20gb patch.
I can't believe this was released in such a state. Terribly dissapointed.
I do understand that game is big and glitchy. Been there, done that.
Old issues are present - game is janky. Sometimes bad when it comes to technical performance. People have just rage wars around it already.
Dunno.
So, shooting. It's similar to Borderlands. It doesn't matter who is the best shot. Only thing that counts is who's numbers are more numbery. Don't like it but can live with it. It feels fun though and getting new guns is interesting.
Combat in general is plagued by numbery number crunch. Most of your cool guns quickly turn to junk as you progress with game. At least thanks that we can upgrade weapons and make 'em better!
Stealth feels half-baked. It's more janky and not as satisfying like in, lets say, Deus Ex Human Revolution.
Hacking feels a bit... off. It's ok and powerful. But it's also kind of "Hold on, what am I doing here again?" Doesn't feel solid, again, a bit too much jank.
Story. So far it's ok. Dunno, it's no Blade Runner or Jonny Mnemonic. It's... well, it's own thing. It's ok though.
Characters - they are good. Some of them take time to get to know them better. Jackie is cool character. Others are at least interesting at places. Most are cliché's but hey, good cliché is still good, you know. I don't think I saw anybody truly super-memorable, but... well, it will do I guess. Judy is kinda cute.
Side Quests are varied. Some are boring and some are... Let's put it this way, have you ever been a psychotherapist for a car with suicidal intensions? I guess, it's most bizzare moment I had with a game so far. Definitely loved it.
Three classes feel more like basis for selecting dialogue options. Not much more. It's ok but I would have wanted a bit more from prologue, maybe make Great Heist happen differently? I don't know. It's ok though.
Night city - 5/5, 100%, amazing, would never want to live there. Truly Cyberpunk city.
Technical issues - Game is buggy. And slow. Waiting for patches. That's it.
I'm no review expert so I'm going to keep this short and simple.
It has bugs, lots of them, in fact it's a buggy mess. Textures take a bit to render sometimes, cars drive wacky, NPC's lip sync is not good sometimes, you fly across the map sometimes, it crashes sometimes (first one for me just happened at almost 37 hours in, so could be random for everyone), and lots of other things.. But. It's a beautiful buggy mess. The questlines are amazing, the shooting feels solid, the driving could use some work but not enough to complain about, characters and graphics are hot when they load correctly (lol). It's only a matter of time till this masterpiece is finished.
Their vision is there, their vision is beautiful, they just need to polish it and make it work now. We complained it wasn't out and delay this delay that, they told us it wasn't ready, we complain more and they say okay last delay then. Here we are.
I am rating this a 4 out of 5 based on those circumstances. This review will change (or not) based on how they handle things in the coming weeks. So far I am having a blast, but be warned it's not perfect.
Under the current state of the bugs, is a fun game. A game I have really enjoyed. Dialouge interations are really well done (Minus the occasional bug with lip syncing). Characters feel like they're talking to you rather then around you like some other open world RPG games. Driving is hit or miss at times. Overall PC performance is alright depending on the graphical settings you run. (1660 Super, Core I5, SSD)
It's not a bad buy in its current state if you dont mind dealing with a few bugs.
At the time of writing this I have 40+ hrs in the game, spit between two life paths. I’ve not experienced any performance issues on high settings with my setup: i7-9700K, GTX 1060 6GB, 48 GB RAM. I’ve experienced a few bugs, most of which were corrected by ether game or driver updates, including vegetation appearing in the wrong layer and NPC dialog going silent or playing out of sync. One intermittent bug that has not been resolved is that occasionally melee weapon hit boxes will stop registering, i.e. the weapon will not make contact with anything. Its shown up 4 times in the 40+ hrs I’ve played. This bug can be overcome by switching to a ranged weapon, firing once and switching back to the effected weapon. Though there is an easy work around, its still very annoying when it happens. Cars are very awkward to drive with keyboard, though for some reason motorcycles handle fine. Combat is engaging, though it would have been better if the A.I. changed it’s behavior more when you fight with melee instead of guns. Ranged NPC will still take cover, even if it backs them into a corner that they can’t get away from you inside of. Stealth is viable in most missions, though there are places where its not posable to go undetected. As for the story, the first few hours have more unskippable set pieces than I would like. It wasn’t a problem my first time though them. But, after I had seen them once, I just wanted to get through them so I could play the game. The voice acting for the main NPC’s and the PC’s are emotive and well delivered. The one exception is Johnny Silverhand. Keanu really phoned it in, his dialog is wooden and occasionally stilted. That, combined with the rest of his character, makes him completely unlikeable. The story (what I’ve seen of it so far) is internally consistent and each beat coherently follows. In closing, I’ve found the game to be very enjoyable and difficult to put down. I highly recommend this game to anyone who has the recommend specs for it.
