Clive Barker's Undying

Atmospheric, Incredible, Haunting, Deep. Undying is still one of my favorite games to play. In fact, I wrote an e-mail to the developers 'The Astronauts', that made the incredible new game called The Vanishing of Ethan Carter 2014. I asked them to consider remaking Undying for their next project. With the Unreal 3 engine, I can only imagine how ridiculously good that game will look, feel and play. Especially with the talent that folks at the The Astronauts have! Not sure if my e-mail will get through, but hopefully it will be read and considered. Hint *Some of you might wanna put your two cents in as well to them :)* Hell, they can't think it wouldn't be a good game to redo! It would put them on the map both for, having the balls to actually remake a classic, and if done correctly, being THE best Horror game ever made. PERIOD!! What do you say folks? Undying - The Return, sounds like a good title, eh?

When it comes to mixing a horror themed game and a FPS you can't go with having Clive Barker involved. The story has some Lovecraftian touches and the enemy design is quite unique and the settings range from a Victorian horror mansion to tribal jungle levels. The game relies on the story and atmosphere. It builds with its limited graphics a nice spooky surrounding that will suck you in. Various journals, letters and other documents flesh out the eerie setting and leave enough questions to the player to be motivated to dive deeper into the mystery of the game. The presentation has aged a bit, but it still works fine for this game. The music and sound effects add a lot to the creepiness of the title. The 3D graphics look dated, but still carry the atmosphere of the game well enough to not look odd. It helps that the focus of the game isn't gore. The level design could be better though. Not having a map or any real indicator where to go next can be a problem in the big hub level. Other level just drag on for too long. This isn't that much a problem in the first half of the game, but in the later levels it shows that the game was padded out to make it longer. It's still one of the best horror themed games and for me the best horror themed FPS that you can get :)

they'll probably remove this review but, like the title says it was great back '01. on win 10 it doesnt even start. support team was useless, referred me to articles that do not solve the issue. that said i loved this game when i played it long ago, but cannot remember it much now. wish i could play again

My first horror FPS game ever ant still one of the best. I like everything about CBU because it has all that good FPS horror should have

... or at least remake or remaster (but it still looks nice) Practically everything is perfect here. Loved the shooting, loved the story, spells, weapons... and Scythe of the Celts ;)
