What a horrible night to have a curse!

Someone should have warned the Covenant children: “Never read aloud strange rituals.” Little did they know that their childish game would unleash unspeakable horrors upon the unsuspecting world. Now, many years later, Jeremiah Covenant, the last sane sibling, lies on his deathbed knowing his fragile existence is the only thing restraining the curse. His only hope is Patrick Galloway, a fellow soldier from the Great War and a specialist in abolishing evil abominations.

Welcome to Clive Barker’s Undying, a horrifying FPS romp of curses, strange, mad creatures, and family dysfunction gone terribly wrong. Step into the shoes of Patrick Galloway as you attempt to banish the evil using your arcane magic and the ever-dependable six shooter of metal grace. Pray to whatever god you believe in because this journey may end up costing your soul. First person shooter meets the contemporary master of horror fiction, don't miss it!

Loading, please wait.

At the time I am writing this review, this game has a 5 star rating. I guess it's natural to be disappointed when - Loading, please wait. - Your expectations are raised a little too high. This game is plagued by tiny levels and constantly interrupts me with loading - Loading, please wait. - screens. I know I shouldn't judge a game by its graphics, especially when it was released in 2001, but Halo looks better and it was on the Xbox. Half-life and Quake 2 look better with their arguably lower level of fidelity, and they don't constantly - Loading, please wait. - interrupt you with bloody loading screens. As for the gameplay, its a sub-par fps. Spells help mix the combat up some, but for me it was a bit of a gimmick. Enemy variety is - Loading, please wait. - lacking and while the environments are sometimes interesting, they are just as often dull and empty. Undying does succeed in being creepy, but it rarely invokes true - Loading, please wait. - terror. I didn't finish this game. I stopped a few hours in because I wasn't having fun. All in all, Undying is a forgettable experience and there is no excuse - Loading, please wait. - for levels this tiny.

Superb game with a few bad things

I've never really played this game before just as always want to try out older games that i've never tried before. With this said for someone who came to pretty late to the party i'd say that i enojyed the game for how much i have played so far. The game has a good story with some great world that become larger as you progress. Start of in a mantion and next you are here in some place with hills everywhere. Shooting in general feels lacking a bit doesnt seem to have the power like the revolver just didnt felt satisfying and felt a bit off for me. Enemies... Oh the enemies... This is where the game just become a bit unfair for anyone that is new. For example there are skeletons which sometimes throw rocks at you and they do not miss anytime... This really pissed me off and just AI in general are way to good like way too good. Really the enemies are just what makes it a bit frustrating to play and for anyone who never played this game just be prepared and have patients but everything else so far been great with a few hiccups.

Frightening game.

This game scared the crap out of me back in... 2001. I could only play it for 20-30 minute stretches before I had to stop and relax a little. Just thinking about the whispers of "Scryyyyyyye" gives me the willies. It's not without it's flaws *cough final boss fight cough* but a very enjoyable game. Using the... raise undead (?) power on a living pirate was one of my biggest "OH SH*T" moments ever in gaming.

Even today it feels like a Master Piece

Undying is maybe the first FPS horror game that really got me in my life. I still remember the way it scared me every room I entered in the mansión and even today with its 2001 graphics is still a great game.

Buggy but Epic!

This game has a special place in my heart as my second step into the horror genre for gaming, the very first of being Phantasmagoria. While Phantasmagoria was fun, it was still very simplistic with it's point and click FMV nature. The leap from that to FPS action adventure with the talented writings of Clive Barker himself was astounding for a young gamer such as myself. I was hooked! I loved being able to explore the maps and collect journals that told the story of the Covenant family piece by piece. I even still have the journal that came with the original copy of the game and read it from time to time. That being said, for all the things I love about this game, it has its flaws. Actions can sometimes be a little buggy with crashes and certain things like mana regen might break if you are weilding the scythe(swap to any other weapon to fix this btw). Most of the problems have been fixed by GoG and I very much recommend picking up a copy of this if you're into old school spoops. Thumbs up!
