From original BATTLETECH/MechWarrior creator Jordan Weisman and the developers of the award-winning Shadowrun Returns series comes the next-generation of turn-based tactical 'Mech combat.
The year is 3025 and the galaxy is trapped in a cycle of perpetual war, fought by noble houses with enormous, mechanized combat vehicles called BattleMechs. Take command of your own mercenary outfit of 'Mechs and the MechWarriors that pilot them, struggling to stay afloat as you find yourself drawn into a brutal interstellar civil war. Upgrade your starfaring base of operations, negotiate mercenary contracts with feudal lords, repair and maintain your stable of aging BattleMechs, and execute devastating combat tactics to defeat your enemies on the battlefield.
COMMAND A SQUAD OF 'MECHS IN TURN-BASED COMBAT: Deploy over 30 BattleMechs in a wide variety of combinations. Use terrain, positioning, weapon selection and special abilities to outmaneuver and outplay your opponents.
MANAGE YOUR MERCENARY COMPANY: Recruit, customize, and develop unique MechWarriors. Improve and customize your dropship. As a Mercenary, travel a wide stretch of space, taking missions and managing your reputation with a variety of noble houses and local factions.
TAKE PART IN A DESPERATE CIVIL WAR: Immerse yourself in the story of a violently deposed ruler, waging a brutal war to take back her throne with the support of your ragtag mercenary company.
CUSTOMIZE YOUR 'MECHS: Use your MechLab to maintain and upgrade your units, replacing damaged weapon systems with battlefield salvage taken from fallen foes.
PVP MULTIPLAYER & SKIRMISH MODE: Customize a Lance of 'Mechs and MechWarriors to go head-to-head with your friends, compete against opponents online, or jump into single-player skirmish mode to test your strategies against the AI.
Please note:
3rd party Paradox account is needed to challenge other players in 1v1 multiplayer matches and to redeem unlock codes for Kickstarter Backer or Pre-Order DLC. Bonus decorations and emblems require online connection in order to be appliable.
Very good game with a rich single player expierience. I played the pen and paper game in my youth and this game is very true to it. I love it. Only drawback is unbearably long load times. I have a nicve PC and an ssd and still has times up to 2 min to load a battle. I recomaned for anyone who is a fan of the pen and paper game.
First off, ignore the haters because well, you can't please everyone and people love to hate.
So far, I am loving the game play. Just obtained the Argo. Being able to customize the mech's is awesome! Yes, there are a few glitches here and there but that is expected of pretty much any game that comes out.
This game is everything that I've wanted in a battletech game since I first played the tabletop game in the early 90s. I was in like...4th grade, and a friend of mine's brother in law had a gorgeous setup in his basement. Full terrain, painted mechs, the whole 9 yards. I remember him describing his first game, in which he ran a rifleman against his bro-in-laws mech, and managed "two quick shots to the head, and he was toast". Lucky rolls, I guess.
But this game gives me the full depth and flavor of the tabletop game, without any of the mess and storage and cleanup. I day dream about the mods I wanna try on my mech when trying to work. I chew my thumb when I send my jenner in danger close, hoping those evasion points will keep them safe after delivering a beautiful alpha straight into a heavy's back or legs. And that I won't get punched.
On top of that, things I hadn't even though to hope for. The art is beautiful and unique. The storyline is excellent (so far, I'm only 20 hours in), and I'm crazy excited about free roaming. I will be playing this game for a loonnnnnggggg time.
I've had no crashes, the controls are super easy and intuitive, the tutorial is perfect.
I hope that someday another version or expansion will come out, and I can control more than just one lance. And that infantry and vehicles have a much bigger role to play, because combined arms are fun. :-)
Absolutely love this game. Love the universe that the game exists in. My biases aside it plays slow on smaller machines and the campaign is a little short but at the same time the game allows you continue on after the main the storyline. It gives me hope that there are easter eggs as you explore the map or that there is room for more content to be added. (Which I absolutely need to be a part of since I missed the kickstarter) If you're an old school gamer like myself then this game is great. Maybe not so much if you are into competitive gaming or FPS's. Turn based multiplayer always seems to leave me a little burned. Also I love the art content. Thats a big one for me. A game could be the greatest game in the world but if the artwork looked like trash then I'de never play the game. The artwork is on point and looks great. The game has the feel of Mechwarrior 1 with how the story unfolds, allowing you to move about the galaxy on a map albeit only a small fragment of the inner sphere. I can't wait to see what comes next for Battletech from Harebrained Schemes.
I backed the game and while I didn't get everything I wanted, I am really really pleased with the game.
The tactical gameplay is engaging and fun. The RPG aspect of pilot growth feels meaningful and the tinkering with the mech load outs is fun. Additionally, the limited inventory in stores combined with salvage creates an interesing economy. Even the story is interesting IMO and I enjoyed the getting to the end of it.
The game has some technical cons stemming from Unity that can cause a hit on performance but compared to other problems I have seen, I think it's a fair trade off.
Ultimately, I don't really understand some of the negative feelings I have seen with the game reviews. I am pretty picky about titles and this offering while not perfect (some of the kickstarter items were not yet delivered) really delivers a satisfying tactical battletech game that I was wanting. With some time for additional patches and a clan DLC I could see this being the birth of a whole new battletech series geared for the more strategic minded to go hand in hand with the new mechwarrior games.
As a side note, the game is fairly mod friendly for most of the mechanics which is a bonus IMO.
The main thing I am left with now that I have played through twice is just wanting more. More events, more pilot customization, more mechs, multi lance operations, auto generated mini campaigns, more equipment, more of everything.
I would easily suggest picking it up.
