From original BATTLETECH/MechWarrior creator Jordan Weisman and the developers of the award-winning Shadowrun Returns series comes the next-generation of turn-based tactical 'Mech combat.
The year is 3025 and the galaxy is trapped in a cycle of perpetual war, fought by noble houses with enormous, mechanized combat vehicles called BattleMechs. Take command of your own mercenary outfit of 'Mechs and the MechWarriors that pilot them, struggling to stay afloat as you find yourself drawn into a brutal interstellar civil war. Upgrade your starfaring base of operations, negotiate mercenary contracts with feudal lords, repair and maintain your stable of aging BattleMechs, and execute devastating combat tactics to defeat your enemies on the battlefield.
COMMAND A SQUAD OF 'MECHS IN TURN-BASED COMBAT: Deploy over 30 BattleMechs in a wide variety of combinations. Use terrain, positioning, weapon selection and special abilities to outmaneuver and outplay your opponents.
MANAGE YOUR MERCENARY COMPANY: Recruit, customize, and develop unique MechWarriors. Improve and customize your dropship. As a Mercenary, travel a wide stretch of space, taking missions and managing your reputation with a variety of noble houses and local factions.
TAKE PART IN A DESPERATE CIVIL WAR: Immerse yourself in the story of a violently deposed ruler, waging a brutal war to take back her throne with the support of your ragtag mercenary company.
CUSTOMIZE YOUR 'MECHS: Use your MechLab to maintain and upgrade your units, replacing damaged weapon systems with battlefield salvage taken from fallen foes.
PVP MULTIPLAYER & SKIRMISH MODE: Customize a Lance of 'Mechs and MechWarriors to go head-to-head with your friends, compete against opponents online, or jump into single-player skirmish mode to test your strategies against the AI.
Please note:
3rd party Paradox account is needed to challenge other players in 1v1 multiplayer matches and to redeem unlock codes for Kickstarter Backer or Pre-Order DLC. Bonus decorations and emblems require online connection in order to be appliable.
It's a very different game. I like the pace and combat. Just atarted but' I see after a few updates this being a GREAT game with a sequel coming down the line. It seems in 2018 the thing to do is Beta test with the release. It's not that bad but' things have changed in the last couple years with games. If you are into turn based games and like mechs you will like the game. I really like the skirmish.
Great Game with a couple of technical Flaws (which will be patched, so no big Drama) but still great.
PROS :
-Close to Tabletop
-Good and engaging Combination of Round based Tactics and Unit Management
-Good Amount of Customizations
-Graphics and Models are nice
-Soundtrack is great
-Art Style is very nice
-Nice Campaign and Story
Overall this is really the Game I have been waiting for Decades - totally addicted already :)

CONS GAMEPLAY (some People will like these, the casual Gamer possibly won't) :
- Difficulty is sometimes sick, comparable to Mortheim : City of the Damned
- You can reload a failed Mission, but that can mean you loose up to 2 Hours of Playtime, which can be frustrating
- Permadeath of highly skilled Mechwarriors can be frustrating too
- You get a Difficulty Indicator before a Mission, yet this can be misleading and the Difficulty of the Mission is much easier or harder than the Indicator told you, so always save before starting a Mission !
TECHNICAL ISSUES at the Time of the Review
- After restarting the Game for the 1st Time I had lost all my Saves and needed to reinstall the Game to make it work again. Which was a big Shock as I already had played about 10 Missions before restarting...
- Hardware demanding
The game is not perfect. It has flaws such as weapon stat balance and some bugs in the version at release. Yet it is still incredibly addictive and fun. I can see myself spending hundreds of hours playing this game and if nothing else that justifies five stars.
First of all, I strongly suggest that any review that mentions "SJW" or has the gall to complain about players being offered an option (AN OPTION!) to choose their desired pronoun in the game, be completely and utterly ignored. In fact, I suspect that most, if not all, of the one-star reviews are not motivated by the quality of the game, but by fragile, white, male egos. The say "social justice warrior" like its a bad thing. I call it "not being a d*ck." N'uff said.
As far as the game itself goes, while it is not perfect, it is thoroughly engrossing. The graphics are perfectly reflective of the budget the developers had to work with; that is, good, but certainly not AAA. No matter, I didn't really notice once I started playing. The game plays a bit slow, and that has been probably the single greatest criticism I've seen. But it's nothing that couldn't be addressed in a patch, and it probably will be. And I'm not sure where the complaints of crashing and other bugs are coming from; I've not had a single problem so far.
From a pure gameplay standpoint, it's an excellent tactical wargame, and I look forward to many more hours of play.
Polished, engaging, interesting, challenging, immersive. Battletech's improvement on the Mechwarrior game series of old is it's ability to keep you engaged in the galaxy as a whole and the stories and history of your pilots and crew. Turn based strategy based, it leverages the genre in an excellent manner. The controls are precise and easy to use, easy to understand, simple enough to pickup intuitively without much in the way of tutorials. What's fantastic is that despite the ease, it's still complex and deep gameplay.
The battles themselves have a large number of considerations to think about as you plan that perfect strategy to take out your enemies or break into the base. The depth of the strategy means even after going on 20+ hours of gameplay now, even the simplest of missions aren't tiresome.
Outside of combat, you have lots to do on your ship itself, including RPG elements in a wonderfully made art style, choice driven dialog and one of the absolute BEST implementations of helping players understand lore behind the universerve they are playing in. Pop up boxes explain names, places and more as you progress.
If I were to nit-pick, in a perfect world it would have a quicksave, and when there are a large number of units in a battle or a convoy, waiting for everyone to take their turn takes a lot of time. Overall however, this game harkens back to the golden era of 90's PC gaming when developers and designers weren't focused on loot boxes and cash grabs; rather to make the best game they possibly could - when I play battletech, I really feel like it was made by people who wanted to create something... special.
