Two sides, eight nations, and one battlefield: Europe!
Set in the rarely explored period of 1975-1985, Wargame: European Escalation pits NATO (USA, Canada, and Western Europe) forces against the Warsaw Pact (the Soviet Union and Eastern European countries) in battles that explore "what could have been". The specter of nuclear warfare loomed large over the real Cold War, but mutually assured destruction (MAD) was the last resort as all knew that the first one to start nuclear hostilities would end up wiped out just the same. In this alternative history of the Cold War, Europe is the core of a war that very well could have been!
Wargame: European Escalation features intense real-time battles, stunning graphics, and the amazing IRISZOOM™ system, giving you a continuous zoom from a global view of the map to the very heart of the action. Realism and strategy are brought to the front lines, are you ready?
Minimum system requirements: Windows XP / Vista / 7, AMD/Intel dual-core 2.5 GHz processor or faster, 2 GB RAM, ATI Radeon X1800 GTO/ Nvidia GeForce 7600 GT or higher with 256 MB VRAM or more (must support DirectX 9.0c and Shader Model 3.0), DirectX 9.0c-compatible sound card, 10 GB HDD, keyboard, mouse

Quick note first, the CD key is available under your "my games" section.
Okay, I really enjoy this game! I've played it only a short while, about an hour, and I can't wait to finish work and play some more. It is very reminiscent of the Close Combat series. I highly recommend it.
The AI is fairly good in single player. I lost my first mission when I was flanked out of theread more woods by some enemy tanks and infantry with anti-armor weapons. A lot of fun!

This is a real time strategy, but not in vein of others out there. Its scale is huge and ranges are long, as is appropriate for a game that uses everything between postwar T-34s to Leo 2s. Not since Steel Panthers has a game managed to capture large scale mechanized warfare so well -- with the added bonus that this actually captures real time correctly.
In place of base building, read more the game uses requisition points accrued over time based on areas capture and a unit pool. Reinforcements are available if your strategy works initially, but there are a limited number of them. This very effectively avoids the boring stand offs that come out of some other RTS games.
The only downside is a weak single player campaign, but we all know these games are for scenarios and multiplayer anyway.
If you enjoyed the Close Combat, Combat Mission, and Steel Panthers series, you will love this game as much as I do.

This is the game I broke my strict anti-steam policy for and after I painfully had to ignore this excellent title for more than a year it is here? Couldn't you guys get your hands on this a little bit earlier?
Anyway, I can say this is easily a must-buy for any multiplayer realtime stratgy fan. It has good graphics, epic battlefields, excellent balance, a lot of deep but not tooread more deep unit properties to think about and a hole bunch of units you definiteley always wanted in a game but you never gotten your hands on!
The deck system allows you to create an army for the tactics YOU want to do with the units YOU like. Don't like tanks? Easy: Choose more helos, infantry, support vehicles, arty, ... You really hate being crushed by airforce, choose some more anti air and build a deadly staged anti air net at your frontline. You like it sneaky? Drop infantry and move (hopefully) unseen through the woods and see everything your opponent is doing. You want the fast push? Get fast tanks with good stabilizers and the type of anti air that can shoot while moving and crush your enemy before he even knows what just had happened! You want a deadly ambush? Hide in towns or woods and disable recognizable weapon systems until the enemy won't make out alive!
The deck system creates endless opportunities for tactics without rendering the situal awareness too difficult or everything to difficult for newbies.
It's multiplayer is a true masterpiece.
