Fourteen days, a horse farm, and a few rules to follow...

Take a break from your college coursework and spend the summer helping out on a secluded farm.

The air is warm, the horses are quiet, and the people are down-to-earth.

Each day brings new tasks, and the work itself is simple, even if the goals are a little unclear.

Sometimes, after the sun sets on a productive day, there are even activities to be found in the evenings.

HORSES is a first-person game with live-action sequences. Over the course of fourteen days, it welcomes you into encounters that test your obedience, complicity, and restraint.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Immerse yourself in the eerie fusion of gameplay and FMV intermissions.
  • Witness the farm's unspeakable horrors through daily unique interactions.
  • Heed the farmer's warnings or face consequences (?)
  • Withstand 14 days of spiraling dread as the reality of the farm unfolds.
  • A full playthrough lasts 3 to 4 hours.

Good unsettling game

The game got a lot of attention for being "BANNED ON STEAM" and pulled from epic. While some of the scenes in the game are gruesome, the overall game isn't bad, if you can survive a sitting of buffalo bill from Silence of the Lambs. I am pretty sure you can survive this. The story was alright, although I think it took some "silly" turns in it that kinda back stepped from the serious tone of the game, but that is another reason why it was so strange to see this game pulled. There are definitely scenes that would make any persons skin crawl, with implied actions that happened, or the one time you actually do something physical. All in all this game is good, I think its a decent little indie game and if you are looking for a spook or some semi uncomfortable themes. Its a recommend Support the Dev, Steam and Epic are big babies

This is Art

What a wonderful game! This game is the reason I created an account on GOG, and I really am not disappointed at all. This is what psychological horror should be, no jumpscares, no chases, just pure messing with the mind.

Not Worth the Controversy

This game really, really isn't as deep as it thinks it is. The attempts to censor it were based in a prudish and inherently anti-art way of approaching any media that's strange and offputting, and I think GOG did the right thing by giving this game a platform. That said, this game is not the crown jewel of artistic expression people are making it out to be. Mechanically, it feels like something thrown together in Unity in a matter of minutes; the game simply doesn't look, sound, or feel good to play, and not in a way that feels intentional. It feels more like a demo than a video game, and the same can be said of the game's message. Its core message - that authoritarianism is bad - is about as surface-level, uninspired, and lacking in any new or unique exploration of the themes it presents as a middle school theatre production. Once you break through the initial bizarreness of the story's presentation, everything is about as clear-cut, obvious, and predictable as is humanly possible. No new ground was tread here; everything this game has to say has been said before, and said better. Again: weird and offputting art is a necessity. The world needs artists willing to create discomfort in its audiences. But the "discomfort" (it can really only barely be called that, honestly; there are darker games made in RPGMaker 20 years ago than this game tries to be) that gave this game its short stint in the spotlight isn't held up by the story or message. It's shallow. The game, Horses, does nothing but beat a dead one badly.

Yes, it is strange.

The game came from the country of Pasolini. Weird and interesting. It's a short and immersive experience but clearly not for everyone. Give it a chance, just 2 hours and not much money.

A strong argument for games as art

There's no explicit gore or nudity, but the themes and the presentation (completely in grainy B&W, with the persistent ratchet of a projector throughout) are designed to be very unsettling. This is what a video game by David Lynch would look like. I finished it entirely in one sitting, and I loved it.
