A new standard for 1st-person RPG gaming

Disclaimer: I already bought the regular edition on Steam, I bought the Gold Edition here to both support DRM-Free options and get the Expansion Pack. This game succeeds perfectly on its main selling point: to immerse yourself in 15th century Europe. The environments are beautiful to both look at and explore. The forests provide a realistic sense of wonder that I haven't experienced since Oblivion, and the streets of Kuttenburg give that sense of scale and liveliness that KCD1 never quite reached for a populated settlement. And all without killing my RTX 4060. I'm also in love with the writing, the main cast have well-placed humor with deep characterization that pull you through the main narrative. In addition, the side quests are wide, various and provide many opportunities to roleplay the protagonist Henry. The performance capture cutscenes are aplenty and serve as a meaty reward for playing the game and the music score also captures the historical period so well. Tom McKay and Luke Dale in particular deserve their flowers for their portrayal of Henry and Hans respectively. Regarding gameplay, the melee combat will be the biggest sticking point for some people; it works the best in 1v1 duels once you understand how it works but can start breaking down in bigger scale battles. That said, ranged combat is highly satisfying and breaking into houses & pickpocketing unsuspecting merchants remain an addicting grind. Points of critique worth noting: At the time of writing (v1.2), game balance highly prefers swords due to its unique mechanic that makes other melee weapons feel lackluster. If you are a completionist, you may reach a 'power ceiling' by the 2nd half of the game. The main quest while very satisfying is relatively linear with some minor deviations but only one main ending. Finally, regarding this game's unique save mechanic, whilst I understand its intentions should probably be left for hardcore mode only. Overall, it's in the running for my GOTY.

    a perfect RPG

I have played this game already, 175hrs on another PC service, and its a PERFECT RPG. Very minor or no bugs when the game launched. This is the type of RPG, that every other game wishes they were. You don't HAVE to play KCD1, but its recommended to provide the gravitas of your decisions in the game. Love this game 10/10

    AMAZING!!

Had to wait for a while for it to be released on GOG but that aside - it is an amazing game. I have a low grade gaming laptop I5 and was worried that it would not be playable - but it's amazing and works. Top Notch game - seriously I almost feel unworthy to play it.

Simply one of the best games I've ever played!

I adored the first game and was so excited when I found out that a sequel was in the works. This game is a true masterpiece! I would certainly recommend playing KCD 1 beforehand to get the backstory and feel of the game. The game is set in 2 different districts- Trosky and Kuttenburg. Two very large maps with lots of things to find and areas to explore. The attention to detail is incredible; just like the first game, everything feels genuine of the era- architecture, dress, weaponry and armour etc. I even love the rats that run around! The soundtrack is fitting and beautifully composed. The quests are fun and intriguing and some have multiple ways to finish them. There are some laugh out loud moments and others that are sad, hard to believe, tense or that bring complete satisfaction. All of your in-game skills are put to the test and level increases are easy enough. The story-line has you hooked from the first major event and contains more twists and turns than hairpin bends! What's new: Several things are new in the game including- - Weaponry- There are now polearms, crossbows and early firearms which can be used. - Smithery- Henry can create items at any forge. - Perks/rewards- New and interesting perk points, such as the ability to find other items while picking plants - Animals- Wild dog and/or wolf attacks - Crime and punishment- time in the stocks are just the beginning... - A second playable character in some parts of the game! This game has some amazing characters- some old familiar faces and others we've never met before. One of the things I love best about it is the growing friendship between Henry and Hans and their tested loyalties. You can find yourself really rooting for them the entire game. Truly a wonderful game in every sense and worth every dollar! Thank you and well done to the content creators for an amazing piece that will be enjoyed for years to come!
