JudasIscariot: Hmmm nothing we can do about this ourselves as it's really up to Daedalic themselves if they wish to offer the German versions of those two games here. Remember, we are only a distributor and we shouldn't attempt to force our partners to do something against their will.
avatar
Patsche85: Ok. But you can ask Deadelic, if you could sell these games with german translations..
IIRC, we did that once already so it would not behoove us to continue asking since bothering one's partners about an issue that has been resolved, for better or worse, is not exactly professional.

Look, in the end, we know you (the German speaking community, not just you specifically Patsche85) want the German versions here but there's nothing we can do to ensure the missing German versions of German-made adventure games actually get here. In short, our hands are tied until further notice.

Now, I am not going to stop anyone from contacting Daedalic but if you are going to do so, I urge you to be courteous about it (I know the people in this thread are pretty level-headed but gotta ask regardless :) )

Don't worry, your English is still better than my German :)

I can assure you that I never have been unpolite or even rude to anyone I contacted but I also tend to demand at least a bit especially if I don't get any answer or the process of answering my question is taking unusualy long. In this specific case I bought both games as retail versions (being steam only at this time) so I am not really that affected myself but I still think that Daedalic could and should at least answer a simple question:

"Are there still any - maybe legal - reasons that only GOG did not receive the update for the German version of both Satinav and Memoria? In other words: is there still something that prevents Daedalic to provide those updates to GOG as well?".

As I also said there once was the problem that the dub was made by deep silver but at this time there was not even a DRM-free version of the game at all. Afair the first DRM-free version of the game was released here on GOG - but in English only. Maybe there once was a problem and maybe in the meantime it is not there anymore and Daedalic has not offered it to GOG yet because they simply had forgotten that GOG once only received the English version of the game. I absolutely understand why GOG does not want to ask them again (Judas already explained this and from a business point of few I can absolutely understand) but I would really like to have an answer to the question above by asking them by myself.

Greetings,

i have a question. How exactly do you Need to get your german Versions of the games? Just wonder, because there are some sites online, that have some older german adventures for download. However... i have the Feeling, that not all of them would Count as Abandon games.
For example, i know a site where you can find/download Space Quest 3, 4 and 5 in german (and some other games too), at least the non talkie Version. SQ 6 was available as german talkie, but ist not on this site. Whatever, would this help you? Could you sell them then as legal Version, even if you found the localisation files at questionalbe sites?

Have a nice day.

There is not really such a thing like an "abandoned game". There may be a moment were some rights are not given and the original rightholders don't use them so they are "on ice" but every game still has a copyright as long as it is not public domain. Legally it would still be a problem if you'd simply download a game which is not public domain or freeware or shareware.

https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abandonware

I am quite sure that GOG would (and should) not accept files from those sites.

Edit: btw: afair I offered GOG my German SQ versions as well but they did not want them. This means there is a legal rights problem with them anyway and even if GOG had the files they could not use and release them. It seems as if all old (former) sierra games are problematic with this.

To bad, but understandable :) Then how does it work? Do you have to get an original version (from an user or ebay or something like that) or do you have to get them from the Publisher or it´s successor, if the company do not exist anymore?

We've acquired German versions from ebay (I am currently awaiting the arrival of a German game from ebay, in fact), sometimes someone bought it for us if there was a linguistic barrier or the seller just would not use PayPal or they insisted on shipping the game only to a German address.

Other times people. like MarkoH01, will send us their copies on loan or they will just outright give them to us (my desk has a collection of these donated copies and Marko's copies of German games).

Usually with older games the publisher is the latest rights holder of a given intellectual property so they may not have much to give us besides the English version of the game and, thus, we acquire it via the means I outlined above :)

This ebay thing also explains why we have two German versions of Waxworks in the office :D

You say that time has been lacking and this is true but hopefully we can get some more German games out, even if it's just singular updates instead of bundles of German versions of games :)

About (partly) not so old Sierra games - I have all 3 parts of Gabriel Knight, first two as Gabriel Knight Mysteries box, though I'm not sure if GK1 had German text or not, I don't remember, the voices were definitely English. GK2 is on 6 CDs and completely German. (My English language box of German release of GK2 is on 5 CDs). And finally the normal German GK3 box. If you have the right to publish, but just not the CDs, I could loan them. :-)

MBiL_248: Judas, if I'm not mistaken then HOMM5's German installer still uses the broken gold edition master with a couple of missing dialogues during cutscenes. That problem concerns the German gold edition master only and UbiSoft provided an official fix for it. Any chance you will add it to the GOG version? I could offer you the related files easily (~ 10 MB).

JudasIscariot: You should write to our German support about this very issue as technical issues like this are a bit beyond me, plus it helps to keep everything organized and in one place :)
I did it already, but I will do it again. Thanks für your reply, keep on the good work and bring us many new games and German versions. :)
