A farewell to arms promo!

The Arma Series, that is Arma Gold Edition, Arma: Cold War Assault, and Arma 2: Combined Operations (complete with the Operation Arrowhead expansion), providing the ultimate mod-enabled first person-perspective military simulation experience, is available up to 80% off on GOG.com. That's only $8.17 for the whole set of three games, for the next 72 hours.

War has always been, and probably always will be, one of the predominant themes in computer games. From 8-bit systems to contemporary monster gaming rigs you'll have simulators, strategy games, and war-inspired arcade titles. But there's only one type of game that could let you really see war as a first-hand gritty and immersive experience. An FPS, first person perspective shooter. Again, there are many levels of realism throughout the genre. Some of the war FPS' tend to focus on storytelling, using heavy scripting to deliver a cinematic experience. Others don't try to hide the fact, that the war you're seeing isn't real and that the main goal is to have fun while playing. And there's the Arma Series.

Arma Series is a game series that will make you feel like an actual combatant on one of the modern-day military missions. A game that will amaze you with its level of realism in recreating actual weapons, military gear, ballistics, and battlefield conditions. A game that will challenge you in ways no other wargame ever could. Dropping you in the middle of a fictional conflict, that feels more real than most things you see on the news, it proves to be the ultimate modern-day military simulation that you can play outside of actual military VR training facilities. Arma 2: Combined Operations allows for massive multiplayer matches that can host up to 50 players simultaneously, and the Operation Arrowhead expansion that, on top of adding another campaign to the game, provides extensive mod compatibility, this is the FPP wargame you want to get, if you mean business.

On top of that, Arma 2: Combined Operations is required to run DayZ, the most popular game modification since the infamous Hot Coffe. What? You don't know what DayZ is? Don't fret--we've got you covered.

Do you think you can handle real virtual warfare? Find out if you really know which side of the assault rifle you should point at the enemies in the complete Arma Series, for only $8.17 on GOG.com. The special promo lasts until Saturday, June 7, at 9:59AM GMT. Games also available separately with lower discount rate. The games already owned on GOG.com count towards the higher discount.

Important note: This is a last chance promo, as Arma Gold Edition, Arma: Cold War Assault, and Arma 2: Combined Operations will be removed from sales on GOG.com on June 22, along with the remaining Bohemia Interactive title: Original War. If you buy (or have already bought) any of these games, they will remain on your account "shelf", so you'll be still able to access and download them.
What are the Arma games like, and what game is the most similar to them? Are the Arma games like a more tactical/squad based version of BLACK? I don't know why, but that's how I imagine them. No, I don't know why, sorry.

By the way, anybody remember BLACK? I would go and play that now but those loading times on the Ps2, those loading times!!!
Bad news :( Will there be Original War promo soon?
So, is it worth getting Arma 2 for DayZ, or has everyone jumped on the stand-alone version? Is it actually still good and interesting?

inc09nito: Let Bohemia go to papa Gabe, now they definitely won't see my money...
+1.

I already own Arma series and Original war on GoG.

EDIT: Dear CD Projekt Red make Witcher series GoG only, please!!!
This nonsense of Steam only titles should end somehow.

Okay, mildly depressed now.

The bad guys, and their Bad Guys System, are winning. Thanks to their Bad Guys fans.

Fuck steam and whoever helps its logic to impose itself.
Yeah at least I got my answer now. I asked them on Twitter during their recent celebratory promo why it is only Steam only when they sell Arma games elsewhere (GOG, GG, UPlay, GetGames,...). They did not answer at all but this seems to explain it. They are probably pulling form everywhere but Steam. Yay for more options for customer.

I don't care much about ArmA games, but Original War is big loss. It's true hidden gem.

Licurg: Will they be coming back at some point, or...

TurnipSlayerr: It's the same case as with other removed titles. We always try to get back titles which have been removed but we can't make any promises. At this point however, my understanding is that they will not be returning anytime in the near future.
Shit :(
So these games requires the installation of the steam client for multiplayer? I think I'll skip them then, I don't like games that install unrelated storefronts or other advertising.

No it will not. You won't have to do this for any game on GOG.
Other games are being removed.. oh why? :'(

At least GOG managed to warn us again.

I already own the first Arma here, are the sequels any worth? (the reviews seem average..)
What about "Original War"? On Mobygames it's just a 68..

Because of the overwhelming support that the most DRM-ic clients are getting by the retarded customers of todays.

Simply, directly, because of that.

Due to the shutdown of Gamespy they found a solution in porting their old games to Steam Services.
tbh, Steam suxx, but this solution is better than nothing.

Take a look at EA. They give a shit about the old Battlefield games running Gamespy. Officially they won't support them anymore. Some private modteams are working on alternate "authentification-services" right now.

What about GFWL shutting down!? Some games were or are going to be ported/ modified to be played without this shitty tool. But also in this case: there are many publishers saying either nothing about any anti-GFWL-patches or giving bullshit marketing responses like Codemasters ("we are working on it", "we'll take a look into it"); these responses were made 6 months ago, nothing has happened since then.

Long story short: these are just some examples why drm and 3rd part tools suck. But I do not really need to tell you that as we are on GOG.com.
Ugh. :[

Thanks for the last chance promo GOG. But to Bohemia I have only one thing to say.
Very sad news. While tactical/military shooter are not my cup of tea it's always bad when games will be permmently removed from the catalog. Never really took a close look on the series, but I heard there are many good mods for the Arma series out there, as example Day-Z. Maybe now is the time to take a closer look on all these mods, maybe some of them would be a good reason to finally jump on the last train.
Damn, removal of games from GOG is becoming a bad habit!
Once again, the world moves one step further towards Steam monopoly - something WAY WORSE than DRM itself. Call me fanboy, nuisance or ranter, but I would rather not play videogmaes at all than paying Valve to do so. I am disgusted of the trend in PC gaming nowdays (no hard feelings on Bohemia, though as long as they stay 100% Steam they will have one less customer), and now I've yet another valid motive to boycott Steam.
