A farewell to arms promo!

The Arma Series, that is Arma Gold Edition, Arma: Cold War Assault, and Arma 2: Combined Operations (complete with the Operation Arrowhead expansion), providing the ultimate mod-enabled first person-perspective military simulation experience, is available up to 80% off on GOG.com. That's only $8.17 for the whole set of three games, for the next 72 hours.

War has always been, and probably always will be, one of the predominant themes in computer games. From 8-bit systems to contemporary monster gaming rigs you'll have simulators, strategy games, and war-inspired arcade titles. But there's only one type of game that could let you really see war as a first-hand gritty and immersive experience. An FPS, first person perspective shooter. Again, there are many levels of realism throughout the genre. Some of the war FPS' tend to focus on storytelling, using heavy scripting to deliver a cinematic experience. Others don't try to hide the fact, that the war you're seeing isn't real and that the main goal is to have fun while playing. And there's the Arma Series.

Arma Series is a game series that will make you feel like an actual combatant on one of the modern-day military missions. A game that will amaze you with its level of realism in recreating actual weapons, military gear, ballistics, and battlefield conditions. A game that will challenge you in ways no other wargame ever could. Dropping you in the middle of a fictional conflict, that feels more real than most things you see on the news, it proves to be the ultimate modern-day military simulation that you can play outside of actual military VR training facilities. Arma 2: Combined Operations allows for massive multiplayer matches that can host up to 50 players simultaneously, and the Operation Arrowhead expansion that, on top of adding another campaign to the game, provides extensive mod compatibility, this is the FPP wargame you want to get, if you mean business.

On top of that, Arma 2: Combined Operations is required to run DayZ, the most popular game modification since the infamous Hot Coffe. What? You don't know what DayZ is? Don't fret--we've got you covered.

Do you think you can handle real virtual warfare? Find out if you really know which side of the assault rifle you should point at the enemies in the complete Arma Series, for only $8.17 on GOG.com. The special promo lasts until Saturday, June 7, at 9:59AM GMT. Games also available separately with lower discount rate. The games already owned on GOG.com count towards the higher discount.

Important note: This is a last chance promo, as Arma Gold Edition, Arma: Cold War Assault, and Arma 2: Combined Operations will be removed from sales on GOG.com on June 22, along with the remaining Bohemia Interactive title: Original War. If you buy (or have already bought) any of these games, they will remain on your account "shelf", so you'll be still able to access and download them.

TurnipSlayerr: I can't provide a definite answer in case there's an unexpected change and then we have people complaining that we promised there wouldn't be a promo and they bought for full price. Hope that's understandable.
avatar
Shambhala: Makes sense, thank you for the clarification.

avatar
TurnipSlayerr: Also Butthole Surfers? You, sir, listen to some odd music.
avatar
Shambhala: Well you know them, so that makes two of us?
I'm familiar with them but they're too out there for me to enjoy for the most part. Read about them and their history in a great book called "Our Band Could Be Your Life" which made me a fan of the band, even if I don't like most of their music. :)
While the gog CD-keys seem to be redeemable on Steam, the Steam CD-keys are not redeemable on gog.com. :(
Before purchasing this, I need to know: Will the multiplayer CD-keys from GOG continue to work after the Gamespy shutdown?

(Note: I have no intention to EVER switch over to the Steamworks version, no matter what.)

Yes server browsing will no longer work since that was handled by Gamespy, but multiplayer via direct IP connect should still work. So the question remains, will the multiplayer CD-keys continue to work for direct IP connections (with other GOG users) to our own hosted listen and dedicated servers?

Alternatively if they simply disabled CD-key authentication for direct IP connect, I would be completely fine with that too. But if they'll enforce CD-key authentication post-Gamespy, it's a pertinent question as to whether or not the GOG version's CD-keys will continue to work for direct IP connect.

Sufyan: you need to find a serious community with a nice set of patches and mods that play organised games.
Any suggestions? I looked for an Arma II server once and it felt like spelunking into the deep web. I found a few servers running "city life(?)" mods but, couldn't get over their rather opaque bars to entry.
$8.17 for this pack is really great. Such a great system to start with, and the catalog of mods is simply enormous.

Completely stinks that this is being removed from the gOg catalog.
I've got ArmA 2, would anybody recommend the remaining ones I don't have or do I really only need 2?
I owned gold and cold war so i just bought arma 2 and original war.
Thanks for the heads up gog :)

IAmSinistar: Damn the publisher for deserting the good fight. And for putting me in the dilemma of considering buying games I have virtually no interest in simply to have them on my GOG shelf as part of the "lost souls" collection. (I do already have Original War because it is one I do have interest in, as it seems to do something fresh with the genre.)

I'll probably do what I usually do when I'm unsure and buy a giftable copy that I can redeem myself if I change my mind. Though I am loathe to give these jackholes any money now.
I heard you can use the key from GOG to redeem on steam. At least if you think you have a remote chance to play this, you can buy it here to give money to GOG, not steam.

I now bought all the BI games including the Original War that is not included in this promo before all of them leave GOG. I will boycott future BI games not on GOG.

BI, I have enough backlog and kickstarter titles waiting to give any more money to you.

Yah, I have no intention of giving money to Steam ever, so I'd grab the keys here on GOG if I thought I'd ever play it. But I honestly don't think I would. And I really don't want to give any money to this publisher now, even a pittance. So I'll just let this one vanish without a buy from me.
the key for Arma 2: Combined Operations can be added to steam, or at lest my version cold today.
I did buy the game Jun 21, 2013.
The remaining BI games do not have a key in the GOG library so these can not be added to steam.

the Arma 2 key you get from GOG looks like this:

XXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX YYYY-YYYYY-YYYYY-YYYYY-YYYYY #NNNNNNNNNNNN NNNNNNNNNNNN NNNNNNNNNNNN NNNNNNNNNNNN NNNNNNNNNNNN NNNNNNNNNNNN

where XXXX and YYYY in the real key are a mix of numbers and big letters. the NNNNNNNNNNNN are numbers.

The XXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX was the 1st key and the YYYY-YYYYY-YYYYY-YYYYY-YYYYY was the 2nd.

So enter XXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX in steams product activation screen for activating Arma 2 and then YYYY-YYYYY-YYYYY-YYYYY-YYYYY for "Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead."

if the NNNNNNNNNNNN can be used for anything is unknown to me.

hmm and now steam starts doing this:
crap->steam(tm void)
{
cout << "to many activation attempts for this account" << "Please try again later" ;
}
just hope it is ! yelling that for(;;); // ever.

trying to feed crap->steam() all these NNNNNNNNNNNN key's was apparently a bad idea.

I never played with online communities, only with friends. We should get an ArmA2 GOG community game night going! Even just 4 guys in a HMMWV can have a lot of fun getting into small skirmishes against the AI.

I have most expertise we need to get started except my computer is too old to host a stable server (things will fall apart after 1-2 hours).
Just downloaded, installed and had a brief session of the first game to see what the game is like. From what I played so far, this is definately a game I want to get into but damn, the mouse as waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too sensitive and trying to adjust the mouse sensitivity slider was a nightmare.

I played through the training mission and the first mission where you have to seize control of the town. After that mission, I got chewed out "So much for America's best" or something along those lines. Obviously as this is my first try playing this game, I'm going to screw up. Just wondering what happened here. Was it because I didn't always keep close to that box thing when approaching the town? Or that I only killed 1 enemy (at least I hope he was)? Or maybe it's cos I missed so many shots trying to take down that one guy? Was is cos two of my own guys got taken out? Was there anything I could have done to prevent that? I really hated the squad members in Medal of Honor cos all they did was get shot, I'm really hoping I don't have to babysit squad members with brain atrophy ala MOHAA.

Any Arma veterans here able to give a nOObers like me a few pointers on getting started?

It is a funny coincidence that these games should go on sale, as recently I saw an interesting video about Bohemia Interactive's involvement in the military industry - It has outgrown what they earn through computer games.

For those who are interested, here it is (only in German, sorry):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-3-jki8pmk&list=UUMw0ZqHJ7QCJgFGsOseDYNg

And here is the military branch of the company, teaching soldiers how to kill more efficiently. In real life.

http://www.army-technology.com/contractors/training/bohemia-interactive/

Needless to say I am not going to support this with a single cent of my money.

inc09nito: Let Bohemia go to papa Gabe, now they definitely won't see my money...
Plus fucking one.

Not putting my money on publishers/devs that are against DRM-Free AND turn backers like that.

LiquidOxygen80: Tbh, these promos have the opposite effect on me. For one, if you're basically flipping the bird to a userbase, who the eff do you think you are attempting to grift more money out of us?

That's like knocking a kid down, taking their lunch money, then offering them a one time only opportunity to get SOME of it back.

In this instance, why reward Bohemia by giving them ANY money? Instead, THIS is what you should be boycotting. So no, I'm not gonna buy these games, even at a sale, because of a choice they made that's detrimental to the rest of us by eliminating an option.

This is a prime opportunity to vote with my wallet, and I plan to.
That's one way to approach the case. Understandable and commendable.

i made another choice and bought a full set as a gift code and plan to give it away next week. there are people that will not have noticed the piece of news and might be happy to get hold of a drm-free copy while it's possible.
