Survival of the sweetest.

Long Live the Queen, a complex political thriller full of violence, hate, and tough choices, masked by deceptively cute visuals, is available on GOG.com for only $9.99.

Long Live the Queen is a brutal game. Your heroine will try to escape the many dangers awaiting a young heiress to the throne, and will often fail, ending up dead, leaving the kingdom at mercy of it's many enemies. Luckily, you'll be able to back up on your mistakes, probably just to witness another death of the princess. When you're but a child, suddenly burdened by the crushing weight of responsibility, every little decision you make might prove to be your last. This complex and challenging royalty sim will crush your hopes many times, before you manage to protect the princess until the day of her coronation. There are secret plots at play, invaders at the gates, dark magical forces hiding in plain sight, assassins lurking in the shadows, and way too many suitors trying to get their hands on the young heiress' heritage. With non-linear gameplay, and great depth this cute-looking title will take even the most experienced gamer by surprise!

If you thought that the life of a princess is full of bliss, ballroom dancing, cotton candy, and ponies, it's about time you faced the terrifying truth in Long Live the Queen, for only $9.99 on GOG.com.

tapeworm00: Well, this looks intriguing. And come on guys, if you can get past the ugly graphics in some of the oldies I'm sure you can get past the drawings in this if they are not to your liking.

Wishbone: The difference is that ugly graphics in old games look the way they do because that was the best they could manage at the time. This game was deliberately made to look like this, specifically to cater to a segment of the market that I'm not a part of. It is therefore a fairly reasonable assumption on my part that this game is not for me. If they had wanted to target this game at everybody, they wouldn't have used an extremely well-known art style with lots of prejudices clinging to it, loved by a specific group of people and loathed and detested by many others.
What I meant in simplistic terms was that if you play videogames because you're looking for fun systems, which are sometimes graphically presented in ways that are not appealing (be it because it's an old game and it looks terrible at higher resolutions or because the style is repellent to your taste, the main point is: some games look ugly), then there's no reason not to give this game a shot. I don't know you, specifically, but there is a very common sentiment in these forums and elsewhere in the gaming community that rants on about how graphics aren't everything, but the moment something is presented in a style a good number of people dislike, then graphics become the primary issue at hand. Again, I'm not targeting you, I'm speaking in very broad, general terms.
...............i don't know what to say

Bambusek: Wrong impression. The picture with octopus? Yeah, it is probably the most "hentai" you get from this game.

Basically - princess has a specific mood, the mood affects her statistics grow (some of them grow faster while other much slower - and yes, it is important), then you choose what she studies (if I rememeber correctly you can choose two subjects for morning session and two for evening), her respective statistic grows, then something happens and either she pass her stats test or fails. You can also choose what she does with her free time and that changes her mood. And so you repeat.

Sounds dull, but actually is quiet enjoyable when you play.

tajemniczybeton: Yeah I see it is princess maker clone.
Also I was making fun of "big breasts" picture not one with tentacles,
Actually, the "big breasts" screenshot is when the princess tries to make a backhanded compliment to a woman coming to see her father, the king. Surely, the princess is allowed to make somewhat not so subtle comments in a fit of jealousy over her father's affections?

One thing you should also have noticed in those discussions, especially the recent thread about the topic, is that while people don't require a high technical quality of graphics, an art style that they simply hate is a massive turn-off for a given game.

Kunovski: if you judge a game by looking at some manga styled pictures and immediatelly say "japanese pedo porn", then yes, some improvements of your judgement are possible :)

but I'm not saying you should like that, not at all! just don't cast false accusations...
avatar
Wishbone: The screenshot specifically mentions a 31-year old man having an affair with the 14-year old protagonist. That's considered pedophilia where I am from, and if I'm not mistaken, also where you are from.

And if you assume that my comment was based purely on "seeing some manga styled pictures", then your judgement could need some improving as well.
Technically speaking, it is about the said princess admitting she has an affair, which might (and I am inclined to think it probably is) untrue. I don't think it is about promoting or really discussing such a relationship, but about the embarassing nature of accidentally making it seem like so.

Also, the middle ages are full of this shit and so far our history books are totally legal.

Wishbone: The only impression you can have of a game to begin with is what they choose to present to you. In this case, they chose extremely poorly.
Did they? It has like 3 times more comments than 2 other releases combined.

Kunovski: Judas said there's no such thing so you were wrong...

Wishbone: And if you had read the thread properly you would have noticed that my pedophilia comment was made before he posted that. But you still tried to make something out of it afterwards.

that's because I don't understand why would you even think that GOG would sell a pedo porn game :D of course you didn't know at that time, you couldn't, but it would be nice of you to admit you were wrong...

and as I wrote earlier, I agree that the developer's decision on the visuals wasn't very good - and the same goes for GOG and the screenshots they've chosen...

but I take it as it is, a little joke and a thing to start a discussion :)

with that, I apologise to you for any harm I might have done, as I'm a man of peace, not war :D

See Judas, you know all the context because you've played the game. But the game card is supposed to tell people about the game who know none of the context, not having played it. As such, what you are presenting is a game with the same graphical style as hentai, a screenshot with a comment saying "My, what big breasts you have", a screenshot showing tentacles and a screenshot of a 31-year old male talking about having an affair with a 14-year old girl. You're not exactly going out of your way to try to avoid all the possible prejudices people might connect with the art style, now are you?

Sure, I've commented on it a lot more than most other releases. My chances of buying it are still zero. I don't really see how that benefits GOG.

GOG PR team really likes controversy. I think you should know that by now.
The trailer honestly has me a little intrigued, so I think I'll add it to the wishlist for now, and pick it up in the future.

But on this screen you can see "Test: Flattery > Failed" so it's easy to guess what's going on, just saying...

Yet, both are visual parameters upon which you can judge whether you like how it looks or not. Technical quality of graphics has a deep relation to style, after all. But that's another discussion. The point is, if you can suspend matters of visual taste due to accepting a game is old, you can easily suspend them due to accepting a game looks ugly because of its style.

It always makes me sad to see people automatically connecting anime with hentai. Every genre is explored with this art style. It's like looking down on movies because porn films exist.
