Survival of the sweetest.

Long Live the Queen, a complex political thriller full of violence, hate, and tough choices, masked by deceptively cute visuals, is available on GOG.com for only $9.99.

Long Live the Queen is a brutal game. Your heroine will try to escape the many dangers awaiting a young heiress to the throne, and will often fail, ending up dead, leaving the kingdom at mercy of it's many enemies. Luckily, you'll be able to back up on your mistakes, probably just to witness another death of the princess. When you're but a child, suddenly burdened by the crushing weight of responsibility, every little decision you make might prove to be your last. This complex and challenging royalty sim will crush your hopes many times, before you manage to protect the princess until the day of her coronation. There are secret plots at play, invaders at the gates, dark magical forces hiding in plain sight, assassins lurking in the shadows, and way too many suitors trying to get their hands on the young heiress' heritage. With non-linear gameplay, and great depth this cute-looking title will take even the most experienced gamer by surprise!

If you thought that the life of a princess is full of bliss, ballroom dancing, cotton candy, and ponies, it's about time you faced the terrifying truth in Long Live the Queen, for only $9.99 on GOG.com.

Crowned: Also, the middle ages are full of this shit and so far our history books are totally legal.
Yup, in that times 14 years old was often already married off or at least engaged for political purposes.

PMIK: You can't blame us for coming to these conclusions with the way the game is presented
:-(

This makes me very sad, actually. I made very sure to avoid any sexual innuendo and emphasize the challenging and complex gameplay in the news post I've written. Still, conclusions will be drawn from one controversial screenshot.

I don't blame you, I'm far from that! But still, as a person who does the words around here, I'm kind of sad that one image truly is worth thousands of them.

EDIT:

By the way, check out the cool trailer prepared by the devs: http://youtu.be/IvmUuJVGcIM. It's both fun to watch, and captures the essence of the game nicely!

This sounds like the old Princess Maker games... I'd love to see these somehow (fully) translated but oh well... The premise seems close enough. Wishlisted.

Off-topic but some of those self-righteous remarks in here are hilarious at first, then it dawns on me that they really mean them...

PMIK: I'm presuming you start the game at 14 but don't have affairs until you are much older.

Well I sure hope so or gog might be closed down for selling paedophilic games.
Depends where you live, I guess.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ages_of_consent_in_Europe

Poland: 15 (ok, so GOG is in trouble!!! :) (or would be, if there was anything sexual about the game...)

Spain: 13.

And so it goes... I'm always a bit amused when people seem to think the age of consent is the same all around the world (e.g. 18), even in western countries.

HiPhish: Judging by the image on the front page I have a feeling I will have to delete my browser history and cache after i click the the game's card...
Umm... both the banner ad and the "latest headlines" pic look just like one of those Japanese cartoons (Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura, etc) aimed at eight year old girls. Do you also feel the need to delete your browser history after looking at a picture of a Disney princess?

I realize the game isn't aimed at that audience, but honestly, you couldn't tell that from the front page pictures. If anything it looks like a kids game. I get the feeling lots of people here haven't seen any recent cartoons, and have only viewed anime-style art in porn. :-(

Anyway, moving on, I believe this is the same game studio that created a game called Cute Knight several years ago. I really liked it. Odd combination of RPG and life sim. Very unpolished in both its art and dungeon crawling, but trying to raise your skills in all the appropriate areas to get the multitude of endings was pretty addictive.

Long Live The Queen clearly has similar life sim aspects, and from what I hear, staying alive is a genuine challenge. Looks like something I'll probably enjoy.

Nooo! I don't want to make G-Doc sad :(

The text you wrote really did seem to suggest an interesting game and a number of the screenshots agreed. The problem was the other 3 shots which suggested that this was a complex game but also full of breasts and sexual innuendo

given the art style you really did the best you could :) I myself am sold, so good job!

JudasIscariot: Actually, the "big breasts" screenshot is when the princess tries to make a backhanded compliment to a woman coming to see her father, the king. Surely, the princess is allowed to make somewhat not so subtle comments in a fit of jealousy over her father's affections?
avatar
Wishbone: See Judas, you know all the context because you've played the game. But the game card is supposed to tell people about the game who know none of the context, not having played it. As such, what you are presenting is a game with the same graphical style as hentai, a screenshot with a comment saying "My, what big breasts you have", a screenshot showing tentacles and a screenshot of a 31-year old male talking about having an affair with a 14-year old girl. You're not exactly going out of your way to try to avoid all the possible prejudices people might connect with the art style, now are you?
As I said before, the game has nothing carnal in it, implied or otherwise.

Nothing strikes as much fear in a forum full of young men than a hint of playing a pink game about a princess. It'll turn you into a homosexual and give you cooties. Girl stuff, yuck! :-P

It's a game, there is no actual law-breaking...
Some people should just grow up. its a game for crying out loud. A visual novel. Yippee!!.
Anyone know long this one is?.Ideas about number of endings?.
The game does appear to have a complex political and strategic side. Just a shame that the art style chosen has given a negative perception that masks what the game really is about.

I'm going to keep following this forum topic for the game, much entertainment lies this way XD

Next 8 year old girls will be playing this game and being corrupted :)

Starmaker: A 14-year-old dating a 31-year-old? Wtf.
lool dating, they would just marry them, maybe even to a relative, and 14 would be pretty old.

Doesn't explain why she looks like 6 years old. Seems like an interesting game with terrible graphics, maybe there are mods for people who don't like toddlers?
Another intriguing find that I probably wouldn't have come across sans GOG. Wishlisted for now, as I'm really trying to manage my backlog, but I hope to get to this one eventually. I suspect that, as in many such games from Japan, it will take extreme vigilance to master the underlying equations that lead to success, and therefore take me tens of hours to see any kind of measurable progress towards the end goal. But the appealing graphics and variety of content should make the trip worthwhile.
