Survival of the sweetest.

Long Live the Queen, a complex political thriller full of violence, hate, and tough choices, masked by deceptively cute visuals, is available on GOG.com for only $9.99.

Long Live the Queen is a brutal game. Your heroine will try to escape the many dangers awaiting a young heiress to the throne, and will often fail, ending up dead, leaving the kingdom at mercy of it's many enemies. Luckily, you'll be able to back up on your mistakes, probably just to witness another death of the princess. When you're but a child, suddenly burdened by the crushing weight of responsibility, every little decision you make might prove to be your last. This complex and challenging royalty sim will crush your hopes many times, before you manage to protect the princess until the day of her coronation. There are secret plots at play, invaders at the gates, dark magical forces hiding in plain sight, assassins lurking in the shadows, and way too many suitors trying to get their hands on the young heiress' heritage. With non-linear gameplay, and great depth this cute-looking title will take even the most experienced gamer by surprise!

If you thought that the life of a princess is full of bliss, ballroom dancing, cotton candy, and ponies, it's about time you faced the terrifying truth in Long Live the Queen, for only $9.99 on GOG.com.

Oh no! It's pink! Must be girlie! Double oh no! I play as a little girl? Must be pedo! Triple oh no! Japanese! Must be hentai! *facepalm*

I kind of figured what the discussion would be like in this thread when I just saw the sheer size of it. Disappointing to say the least. Talk about insecurity much? Here are some facts you might want to consider:
- As has been stated already, it is only fairly recent in human history that the 'age of consent' has been set higher, yet there are still countries that do have it around 14 still. As this is supposedly around medieval times, I really don't see a problem one way or the other.
- The game may be in Japanese style, but Hanako is actually a Western (US?) developer
- Anime/Manga =/= Hentai, Tentacles =/= Rape - If that's all you can think about then the problem is you, not the game.
- Just watching the trailer alone should clear up most misconceptions, but I guess it's easier to spew garbage

That said, these kind of games are a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine. I certainly hope this silly adverse reaction from some of our forum folk won't discourage GOG from bringing more here. I'm very much considering buying this just to say "Hey, GOG! I approve of this!" and to thank Hanako. That's in addition of me actually being interested in the game. So, might we expect the Cute Knight games here as well? *crosses fingers*

Yup. I'm a man. I'm 31. I like this shit. Deal with it.

Jonathanimal: as a 32 year old man i've always fantasized about being a young heiress to a throne. thanks, gog.
*high five* Bring out the tutu and tiara! =P
I haven't known about the game. Abundance of pink with lolicon material aren't exactly tempting... yet the idea looks interesting. I enjoyed Princess Maker. *goes to check the demo*

By the way, is it just my limited knowledge or does she really do a Sakura/Usagi crossover?

It's a genre.
Thanks, gOg, for offering something other than the adventure and platformer games that have been the mainstays of the new game releases for quite a while now. Likewise, thanks for bringing in another developer / publisher.
I would liken this to King of Dragon Pass or Zafehouse Diaries, gameplay-wise. The meat of the game is managing the princess' mood and taking advantage of the related bonuses to your studies. In my first playthrough, I unlocked two outfits (which you do by achieving a certain level in a skill set and they provide a bonus to *that* skill set) and in no way would I consider them whorish or excessive. Of course, I concentrated on rather pointless skills and paid the price by being killed by bandits. If the graphics were more westernized, I'm sure more people would be less bitchy and call this a engaging strategy game. So if you don't like the window dressing, don't buy it, but I assure you that you're missing out on something good here.

Kunovski: so, I'm 18 weeks in service and so far I was able to FAIL EVERY SINGLE check :D :D :D

I must say I probably suck at this... but all will change, and I will rule with a mighty grip!!!
played to week 10 on the demo and passed two or three checks. instead of spacing stuff out evenly i was focusing on just a few things.
This game / topic could really benefit from some pic unrelated.

Seriously.

the thing is, I did focus only on a few skills and had most of them at 50 quite early... yet the story always demanded things I had zero in :D I just wonder if there is some kind of way to KNOW what you'll need further in the story based on your choices

I was for example quite good at dexterity and dance, yet I sucked utterly at the royal ball as it was more about behaviour and knowledge of etiquette :)

If you want to cheat, there's a wiki for the game.
Thanks GOG can't wait to play this :)
Can I just say that my jimmies are at maximum rustle (in a good way) that I cannot continue my reign of terror as Elodie?

(In plain English: I like the game but I wish I could've gone on and continued to reign as Queen.)

#maximumrustle

nah, I'll probably give it a hundred more tries or so :D it's really quite fun to play... (and I should probably experience all possible deaths before attempting to win this with a cheat ;)

EDIT: also, I know now that I should really pay attention to everything that is said and learn what moods affect which skills...
