Whether you bought the game, got the demo in a box of Kellogg's, or haven't even heard of it - here's your chance to visit the Wild West!

Go on a journey to New Mexico in 1881 as one of the six Desperados that are on the hunt for the train robbing "El Diablo." As John Cooper, the bounty hunter engage your enemies in a real time strategy game - think [url=http://www.gog.com/en/catalogue#all_genres/search/commandos/]Commandos but with revolvers and a Wild West setting. Utilize each team member's unique skillset, ranging from carrying Gatling guns or faking a siesta to special equipment like Mia's monkey or Samuel with his love for TNT. Overcome the engaging missions with unique setting and scenery. Challenge the robust AI system which makes each try at a mission a unique experience.

Apart from the enemies, your heroes also have unique gameplay features like Quick Action which lets you bind a series of actions into one button, so you can shoot your enemies "John Wayne style".

So what game made you ride with the outlaws? It's Desperados, we think :)

tinyE: How was it updated?

HanselPete: As far as I know it now works better on modern systems, several languages were added an it includes the Demo now.
Which I would assume means no crashing.

Shit, now I'm pissed about the only Galaxy thing.

It also now has options for widescreen from what I tested the other day.
Perhaps it will just take some more time for gog to create the installer. I don't think this will be galaxy-only.

InkPanther: Necro time!

Could somebody kindly explain to me why the game was updated only in Galaxy?
https://www.gog.com/forum/desperados_series/new_update/post3
Most probably because in practice the installer versions are always lagging behind at least a few days, as it is easier to push updates to Galaxy. The Galaxy update apparently became available last Thursday, so there has also been the weekend in between, during which time no one at GOG is probably working on offline installers (we don't usually seem to get any other updates to offline installers during weekends either).

It the offline installer is still not updated within a couple of weeks, then I start caring.

It was about time for an update! I played it years ago and the state it was in was nothing short than shameful.
A fantastic game that crashed every 5 minutes... I put so much effort into making it work, but it was still not enough to correct everything, I was merely able to reduce the crashing a bit.
The game is pure gold, it deserves to be playable.
yeah, the offline installer gives you a 600mb install while the galaxy one is 2gb.

I don't know. They have the game working on Galaxy. Would I be wrong assuming GOG received files in advance? And packing them into an installer can't take much time, can it? They even restructured installers to make the process faster...
Updated installer is now live.

My assumptions:

- Galaxy updates can be provided by the developers themselves, while offline installers need some work and attention from the GOG staff.

- The GOG people building, smoke-testing and publishing installers probably have a constant stream (backlog) of offline installers to do. So if the developer pushed this update to Galaxy e.g. last Thursday, the GOG staff possibly received the files for the offline installer that same day. It went to their work backlog, to be done after the 68 (or thereabouts) other offline installers they have to prepare before them.

- It is probably a vacation season now on GOG, so many of those people taking care of the offline installers are now on their annual 10 week summer vacation (governed by the Polish employee vacation laws). They have two summer trainees trying to help with the work, but this whole process is quite new to them so now they are feverishly trying to learn or remember, how they were supposed to build the installers. So, things kinda slow down during the summer vacation season.

Anyway, I am not in a hurry to play this particular game right now, so I am fine with a little wait, as long as it comes at some point. I am not waiting to run home from work in order to install this particular game and play it today, but I'd like to have it in the coming weeks just so that the GOG staff don't forget they have to provide the updated installers too.

EDIT: Oh ok, scratch that, just read that apparently the installers are online now. Oh well, good, GOG clearly exceeded my low expectations.

EDIT2: I wonder if there is any reason to keep the older installer in my local backup, or do the new installers make them completely obsolete? For instance, I am glad I kept the old (CD and DVD version) installers of the Riven game, as someone pointed out that some "easter egg"-thingie doesn't work in the newest ScummVM (or is it ResidualVM?) version of the game. Maybe I keep the old smaller installer for now, just in case...

Just downloaded and installed the new version and it's looking good.

Let's hope the freezing issue is fixed. This is one of my favorite games EVER and it's been so long since I was able to play it without rage quitting over the freezes.
Nice! This is one I had trouble getting working when I got a new computer. Will have to give the new version a go sometime.

It's not as good as Custer's Revenge.

Ah yes, the infamous Atari rape game.
