phaolo: Cool, but I wonder how much has the game improved.
I watched various LPs last year and they were fun, but except for launching the rockets there wasn't much else.
No missions, no goals, nothing to do once landed on planets.
Yeah, there has been 2 campaign modes implemented a few versions ago.

- In the science campaign, you start with only a few parts unlocked. If you want more, you must go to as many different places as you can, do scientific experiments, then get them back to Kerbin to get Science points that you will spend to unlock new parts. Grabbing a pebble on the launchpad counts as "science", at least the first time tou do it, but of course getting a fully equiped ship to lower Duna orbit will be much more profitable.
Science mode gives you a goal (getting as many different experiment as possible to get science points), and is good for learning the game, as you unlock new parts rather than have them all at the start like in sandbox. Gives a nice feeling of progression.

- In the full campaign, you have science points and unlocks, but you ALSO must manage your money, do missions (that will give you money, science and reputation), build up your base (many features like 30+ part ships, having more than 5 astronauts, subassemblies, command groups, mission planification, etc... are locked when you start the game), hire astronauts (that get a specialty when they start, and new skills with experience)...

That said, that's still Kerbal. Apart from experiments (and missions, like "get to point X and do a report"), there's not much to do on the planets. The game is still pretty much "build a ship, fly a ship, repeat"

ne_zavarj: Question : Will the GOG version support mods ?
avatar
Bandock: The GOG version should be able to support mods no matter what. Heck, I've been playing the version from the KSP Store for years (which was on there before the Steam version existed) and was able to play mods. So, you should be able to play with mods through the GOG version no problem.
Being able to play them is one thing, but how about being able to get them? Doesn't Workshop require Steam? Or is there some alternative repository not locked away?

moonshineshadow: Will I get lynched if I say I never even heard of this? *hides*
I recall seeing that title many times on the Steam client ads when I've run the client, but that's all I know about it.

I'm a bit confused though, I thought I saw those ads already many months ago, so I thought this game has been out for quite a long time already (on Steam), even though Ciris says it is a day-one release? Or was it in alpha phase then this long? EDIT: Apparently so, so now it is finally released for real.

Anyway, good to hear it is coming to GOG, in case it is any good. :) I might buy it, if it looks nice.

All I know is, after one day of playing it while it was still early access I knew that KSP was bumping something off my top 5 games of all time list. I didn't know what, but I knew that something had to go :)
Not my kind of game (watched a lot of people on YouTube play it and though I find it fun and enjoyable to watch, I wouldn't want to play it myself) but, still, kudos to GOG for securing a day-one release of such a recent phenomenon.

Acknowledgments extended to whatever studio develops and/or publishes Kerbal Space Program for treating GOG customers like first-rate ones and not letting us wait a year or more before they release their game in here.
Good things come to those who wait.
Why is this not listed in the "upcoming" tab?

Good to know, even if I hope that some mods will add more features.
I already imagine advanced spaceships, intercepting comets, planet colonization and mining, even alien meeting or defense..
really nice game :)

Ciris: It's gonna get there (if it hasn't yet) - but while it hasn't, and as soon as I was allowed to share the news, I wanted to say it :D I've been waiting to try my hand at something I have no idea about for quite some time now, and this feels like the furthest from what I have any idea about whatsoever - so the perfect choice!
About that upcoming tab you were talking about...

Well, intercepting and redirecting asteroids is already in the game (There are a few big objects that come near Kerbin), and they said they would implement a ressource (i.e. mining) system for the 1.0 release.

For scifi and military stuff, that's clearly not what the dev aim for, but perhaps some mods will address it (but I don't think it will ever be THAT developed, even in mods, since the base game is really not about this stuff)

Ok, thanks for the info : )
I am really happy to see it is coming here and will pick it up in time, but I really had begun believing it would never become a gold game.

Kerbal Space Program does not use Workshop. They have no plans to either at the moment. However, you can already get mods either from the forums or other places (such as Curse Forge).

tinyE: Oh so basically it's just like the Soviet Space Program? :P

Lifthrasil: Yep. Launch something and if it doesn't work try it again with MORE POWER!
actually if it doesn't work, you add MORE BOOSTERS! I'm tempted to triple-dip on this: 1st direct from them, then a few months later on Steam at discount (after the window for all DLC free closed), and now here. This game if I were to describe it, is Legos (or something along those lines) in space with semi-disposable astronauts. The end price is probably going to be ~$30 though so it might wait.
