nightcraw1er.488: Why? On the assumption that such a silly notion such as "evil" exists in the first place, I don't remember the little chap wandering around with a red cape, trident, and going "mwwwhaahaha" - well except for Halloween, but that's just joining in.

I miss when it was just him, a camera, a pepsi and talking VLOG style. It was around the time the first Paranormal Activity came out, he also talked about the first REC film. I miss that Spoony, I dunno he just seemed more genuinely entertaining back then. All those old, bad games, including Phantasmogoria, I loved that stuff years ago. I think he went downhill right when he met his gf and went on a content hiatus.

His Ultima 8 review is awesome, especially if you remember playing the original release:

best part at minute 09:33
And the interviews with Richard Garriott are also very entertaing. Because at this very moment, Britannia burns:

I've often wondered why he never followed up on his retrospective, by talking about other Ultima stuff, except for the console Runes of Virtue games. I mean, there's Ultima Online, the Worlds of Ultima spi-offs and the rare and poorly remembered Ultima: Escape from Mt. Drash, there were even books. I was really hoping to see him review those eventually.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wpui9EKNTzE

Maybe it's because those are even more niche interest which means a smaller audience. Originally, he made videos just for his friends offline and his older stuff involves much more editing and is generally more involved and elaborate. Nowadays, people's attention spans are getting shorter and shorter, people want short videos (7-8 minutes tops) and because there's such a massive flood of content all over the place, most content creators are likely to think it's becoming less and less worth it to put so much time and effort into videos. Channels wanting to stay relevant have to keep churning out new content with high frequency and channels with good and elaborate but less frequent updates get overlooked. Maybe it's time to go back to just making content for friends because the general public wants fast food first and foremost. I can imagine it's hard for in-depth content creators when they see how massively popular lazily churned out content is, just look at the top Youtubers who are for the most part incredibly lame and cheap - with only few exceptions like FPSRussia whose popularity is well deserved due to quality content.Post edited November 16, 2015 by awalterj

jepsen1977: But that was years ago (4-5) and these days he is just a giant assclown who lives off of Patreon without doing a god damn thing for the money.
He streams a lot. I regret that it's all he does, but I sort of understand. It's what most people are into nowadays more than reviews anyway, so why work hard on scripts, jokes and editing, if you can just play a game for a few hours and call it a day? As for the rest, about his ego etc. I really don't want to get into that. I know there was a lot of e-drama, but I try not to follow such stuff. One never gets the full picture anyway, and I don't want to judge a guy who did so much for me based on hearsay.
But yes, although it boggles my mind to think of it, it's been three years since Ultima IX, and those times will not be back. We can't turn back the clock. It's just a pity The Spoony Experiment didn't end with more of a bang. And he's not the only one to have gone that way. Angry Joe also does mostly let's plays now, and his reviews are rare and mostly unwatchably bad. Nostalgia Critic tried to quit years ago, it didn't work out for him, and he's reviews since then are mostly just bad and boring.
