Welcome, Russian-speaking gamers!

GOG.com has always been about bringing you the widest selection of the greatest games: classic, new, all DRM-free. To keep this up we need to grow, and to grow we want to reach out to more gamers worldwide. We've already unveiled a French and German version of our store, and today we're introducing Russian to GOG.com! (Did you know that it's the second most used language on the internet?)

We already have more than 150 games in Russian in our catalog, and today we celebrate by releasing six new DRM-free games - including two digital distribution exclusives and three weeklong discounts:
-<span class="bold">Galactic Assault: Prisoner of Power</span> (digital distribution exclusive)
-<span class="bold">Sea Dogs</span> (digital distribution exclusive)
-<span class="bold">Wings of Prey Complete</span>
-<span class="bold">Pilot Brothers</span> (-33%)
-<span class="bold">Men of War</span> (-50%)
-<span class="bold">Death to Spies</span> (-50%)

We have over 30 more games on sale this weekend up to 75% off: Russian-language games straight "<span class="bold">From Russian with Love</span>"! That includes not just the new releases, but also the King's Bounty saga, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series and more. Everyone is invited to mingle, and it's as good a time as any to break down gaming's largest language barriers one discount at a time.

With an all-new website language, localised customer support, and a dedicated Russian forum, we're hoping to become the right place for all of our Russian-speaking gamers. We’re also adjusting our prices in those regions. For over a year we’ve been offering games at lower prices in Russia and other independent countries that emerged from the USSR, places where game prices have historically been lower than in western markets. Starting today, more games will be priced appropriately for these territories. We've decided to adjust our pricing to the realities of the market, to avoid a sense that you have to pay more to get your games DRM-free or that GOG.com games are more expensive than other stores that operate in those regions.

Just in case you wondering, introducing these price changes won't affect the way gifting works today on GOG.com.

Tpiom: Is gog abandoning the "each game deserves a spot in the sunlight"-policy? I guess I can see why as there are just so many games out there, but... Thoughts?
No, we aren't abandoning that policy :) This six games at a time thing is mostly reserved for launches such as the Russian, French, or German ones or, sometimes, the Lucas Arts games :)

LiefLayer: Look, the problem is that I'm not at all sure that they're going to release.
If they do it with a bit of delay is not a problem.
I frankly don't even care about a separated italian forum.. a worldwide friendly place is way more interesting!
Also, I fear about possible price increases or censorship, like those enforced on german users after the new forum.

By the way, why doesn't GOG implement a multi-language forum view option, instead of creating different places?
I wouldn't mind mixed posts, if the view is customizable.

phaolo: price increases
What price increases? There were none.

phaolo: censorship
Why are you saying that? Are there GOG games that are prohibited from sale in Italy?

I thought there were.. my bad then.
About the censorship here: I don't know, but I wouldn't like to discover it only after an obligatory change!

No comment about the forum view?

Well, there was no censorship when the French or Russian languages were introduced. Also, Wikipedia shows nothing about banned games in Italy.

I guess it would be chaotic.

Even if customizable?
You could see only english posts, or only your lang, or both.
That way, you wouldn't need to use multiple forums for the same store.

How would it differentiate between those, though? By the thread's title? What if it contained characters from more than one languages? What if the thread's title was misleadingly in English, but the thread's content in German?
Good another save weekend for my purse.
Only RTS (never play them) and 2 King's Bounty (play one, know all others) left.

Well, you'd just need little text or flag symbol before the title.
That would be assigned when an user creates a thread and selects a language (among favs and with a default one).

What if the user abused this and intentionally chose wrong language to annoy people? At least, in a different language forum, the residents could just ignore him and go along their merry ways. In an international forum? All hell would break loose.

They could do it right now anyway, by simply posting in the other forums with a fake title..
That's a problem unrelated to the multi-lang idea..

I don't think so. You said yourself that I could set a filter to only show a specific language. Now, imagine people wanting to annoy others by abusing this feature only to piss off people who are using it. Every action has a reaction.

You didn't read the first sentence: such trolls could do that thing even NOW, without the multi-lang idea.

You didn't read my post. Previously, they had no reason to do so (other than randomness). With the existence of this function, they could do it just to piss off people who are using this function.
