Welcome, Russian-speaking gamers!

GOG.com has always been about bringing you the widest selection of the greatest games: classic, new, all DRM-free. To keep this up we need to grow, and to grow we want to reach out to more gamers worldwide. We've already unveiled a French and German version of our store, and today we're introducing Russian to GOG.com! (Did you know that it's the second most used language on the internet?)

We already have more than 150 games in Russian in our catalog, and today we celebrate by releasing six new DRM-free games - including two digital distribution exclusives and three weeklong discounts:
-<span class="bold">Galactic Assault: Prisoner of Power</span> (digital distribution exclusive)
-<span class="bold">Sea Dogs</span> (digital distribution exclusive)
-<span class="bold">Wings of Prey Complete</span>
-<span class="bold">Pilot Brothers</span> (-33%)
-<span class="bold">Men of War</span> (-50%)
-<span class="bold">Death to Spies</span> (-50%)

We have over 30 more games on sale this weekend up to 75% off: Russian-language games straight "<span class="bold">From Russian with Love</span>"! That includes not just the new releases, but also the King's Bounty saga, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series and more. Everyone is invited to mingle, and it's as good a time as any to break down gaming's largest language barriers one discount at a time.

With an all-new website language, localised customer support, and a dedicated Russian forum, we're hoping to become the right place for all of our Russian-speaking gamers. We’re also adjusting our prices in those regions. For over a year we’ve been offering games at lower prices in Russia and other independent countries that emerged from the USSR, places where game prices have historically been lower than in western markets. Starting today, more games will be priced appropriately for these territories. We've decided to adjust our pricing to the realities of the market, to avoid a sense that you have to pay more to get your games DRM-free or that GOG.com games are more expensive than other stores that operate in those regions.

Just in case you wondering, introducing these price changes won't affect the way gifting works today on GOG.com.

vsr: - 60$ in usa. USA wages: 5000$. American pays only 1/83 of his monthly wages
Pfft. I wish! In fact, a great lot of people (aka the working class) make less than half than that. Hell, I only make about a quarter of that (after taxes), and it probably would be even less than that if it wasn't due to one of the highest state-mandated minimum wages around. There are people in other parts of the country who earn even less for the very same job I'm doing.

All in all, you make it sound like we got tons of money to waste on trivial things such as games but that isn't true. Couple that with the fact that everything else being more expensive here, too, all that extra money just helps us getting by. Heck, most people I know would have a tough time on my kind of earnings.

Anyway, generalizations as usual are unrealistic.

Cavenagh: так что это означает, что мы русский форум ?

Sanjuro: Ну, я бы так не сказал. Хотя русская часть тут теперь тоже есть (как и немецкая, например).
I wouldn't exactly call us a Russian forum, rather a forum with a Russian part (and also German one, among others).
It's good idea that GOG is implementing forums for different languages, I'm all for it, not everyone can speak english [I'm not that good at it and I'm born n bred in england]

I read the french and german froums via translate, and I learn a little bit of thier language.

all the best

IAmSinistar: I'd like to visit the major cities for the architecture and history, but yes, I would be especially interested in seeing the countryside. I'm a biologist and naturalist and would be particularly keen on seeing the varieties of wild plants and birds there.

Are there rural areas that are good for foreign travellers such as myself, who is not at all conversant in the language? I know there are parts of my country which are great for visitors, and parts I would warn folks away from.
I've never been a fan of big cities like Moscow or St. Petersburg. Smaller cities and towns however are my cup of tea. I gotta warn you though, this country have seen some really rough years recently, so you _may_ encounter different people (meaning differently unfriendly or impolite), but the new generation is better and I'm sure it will only improve in time. Although do not be too concerned about it because most Russians have good hearts for foreigners, so you can travel safely (but vigilantly) in almost any place. You will not be able to freely converse here in English, you'll need to use gestures or other methods. And I don't think it will change anytime soon.

If you're looking for rural areas there isn't much to see here (they are all the same, some deserted villages, some abandoned fields and ravines), but Siberian forests are a delight, so would you ever become serious about visiting I suggest you start looking there. And of course I would not recommend visiting in winter. Winters are the embodiment of depression here.

Bloody lord, for how long we gotta haul all this load? I mean, chap, how did you ever came up with this jolly good idea? ;)

Thanks, that's useful travel info. I don't expect to get away with English there, and would definitely be relying on a phrasebook and a lot of pointing at things. :)

I'll have to read up on the nature sites that are recommended for my fields of interest. Certainly would love to see Siberia in that regard, I've heard much about it that intrigues me.

Play DOTA2 on Steam, they say quite helpful. Haven't tried that myself, though, but I know a lot of people who started to learn English because of Fallout. :)
If you have Witcher 1 installed (easier switch in the fly), you can use it to get some practice. Yet beware, after replaying same moment with various VO/subtitles combo you may start hating game.

What do you mean? In English translation? Don't know mate -- I'm Russian =)

I grew up in Vladivostok, bloody NAVY Reserve Lieutenant (FESTU). Finished this game twice in Russian, sounded legit enough. But to be honest I'm not very good at old NAVY terms.
Talking about Good Old Games from Russia to get here, how about Chasm: The Rift?

EDIT: Vote it up on the Wishlist if you wish.

We can discuss your travel if you unblock me:)
I'm an environmental engineer from Siberia, my mother teaches Russian language to foreigners.

I mean real seamen vocabulary, starting from uniform and its elements, going through ships elements to things I don't even know what they do represent.

Roman Arkadievich? Why Chelsea's been playing that way? ;)
Don't know if this was mentioned earlier, but GOG you need to implement review filtering based off languages now.
