Welcome, Russian-speaking gamers!

GOG.com has always been about bringing you the widest selection of the greatest games: classic, new, all DRM-free. To keep this up we need to grow, and to grow we want to reach out to more gamers worldwide. We've already unveiled a French and German version of our store, and today we're introducing Russian to GOG.com! (Did you know that it's the second most used language on the internet?)

We already have more than 150 games in Russian in our catalog, and today we celebrate by releasing six new DRM-free games - including two digital distribution exclusives and three weeklong discounts:
-<span class="bold">Galactic Assault: Prisoner of Power</span> (digital distribution exclusive)
-<span class="bold">Sea Dogs</span> (digital distribution exclusive)
-<span class="bold">Wings of Prey Complete</span>
-<span class="bold">Pilot Brothers</span> (-33%)
-<span class="bold">Men of War</span> (-50%)
-<span class="bold">Death to Spies</span> (-50%)

We have over 30 more games on sale this weekend up to 75% off: Russian-language games straight "<span class="bold">From Russian with Love</span>"! That includes not just the new releases, but also the King's Bounty saga, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series and more. Everyone is invited to mingle, and it's as good a time as any to break down gaming's largest language barriers one discount at a time.

With an all-new website language, localised customer support, and a dedicated Russian forum, we're hoping to become the right place for all of our Russian-speaking gamers. We’re also adjusting our prices in those regions. For over a year we’ve been offering games at lower prices in Russia and other independent countries that emerged from the USSR, places where game prices have historically been lower than in western markets. Starting today, more games will be priced appropriately for these territories. We've decided to adjust our pricing to the realities of the market, to avoid a sense that you have to pay more to get your games DRM-free or that GOG.com games are more expensive than other stores that operate in those regions.

Just in case you wondering, introducing these price changes won't affect the way gifting works today on GOG.com.
Nice, this opens a lot of opportunities for some cool FPS games on GOG.

You Are Empty
The Stalin Subway 1+2
HellForces
They're Alive!
Dusk-12
The Precursors
Xenus II: White Gold
Liquidator 2: Welcome To Hell

Cavalary: Well, it is already available DRM-free elsewhere, and without a Russian discount even, so don't see why not.
More accounts for the accounts throne? :D
Not that I need to buy it, as I own the series on disks and Steam. Still, nice offer for those who don't have it. I mostly don't get odd separation of the series, it's like getting first course in one restaurant, and then, to get second course, dessert, and a kompot, you had to go to another one.

Cavalary: Otherwise, assuming blanket regional pricing now? Yeah, this day was coming. [insert choice words here]
Hey, don't sound like it my fault:) I've been buying games without regional discounts, because many stores offering those offered only regionally restricted versions, often with localization locks, which I despise.

By the way, Wings of Prey got that horrendous Gaijin's "yuplay" or whatever that monstrosity was called?

ygroza: "From Russia with love" - I got this to my mailbox today.

Thank you, GOG, my country is shot with tons of Russian rockets and bullets daily, by Russian militarymen and "militia". We don't need more "Russian love" here.

Unsubscribed from all your maillists from now.
But what does your aversion Russia has the games and promotional title? Oh yes, Gog specially like you somehow hurt. People are buying the game here, do not forget about it.

Well, this announcement is tone deaf on so many levels, why not step on a few more toes while they're at it? In other words, Good News™ Ukraine, Russia loves you too hard! =/ I'm really liking the additional games, but the 'priced appropriately' remark really rubs me the wrong way. It sounds as if they want a pat on the back for being humanitarians... Because Russians are clearly so much poorer than the Vietnamese or any other actual developing country.

I haven't played most of them though but some of them are like playing through an entertaining lowbudget B-movie, They're Alive! especially which is a Russian made version of They Live!, while HellForces is a bit of a mix between Escape From New York and In the Mouth of Madness. The problem is that most reviewers/gamers didn't see it that way and the games had typical things most gamers are annoyed about like the rats that constantly attack you in HellForces, personally I thought it was hilarious.
And the totally whacky intro in Liquidator 2 alone is worth getting it.
Okaaaaaaay, I get it why you didn't put it up yesterday. Actually, I had to check whether it was still April the 1st when I first read the news.

(I half expected the next language to be Spanish or, you know, Polish, but I'm not complaining. :-) Thank you).
P.S. Do we, by any chance, get some Russian voiceovers for games like Heroes 5, Pathologic or something else from this list? Just curious.
Отличная новость. Ура! :)

Seeing this I actually get the sense that I have to pay more to get my games, seeing that they are so cheap over there. Dear GOG, please be assured that I do not like at all that the prices for me are much higher for even more and more games. Displeased customer.

While Spanish would cover Spain + large part of South America, Polish is spoken in Poland and that's it... and we have cdp.pl for those who don't speak English.
Now it's time for Clay Agent to visit GOG :-)
Only thing I found a little disappointing was that none of the new releases were particularly high up on the wishlist.

Fair enough. It's just that I'm used to companies having at least a version of their site in the language of their country of residence.
Well, I'll wait and see what happens when the forums (or is it fora? I keep forgetting) are merged. I mean, language-wise.

PaterAlf: As a German who got a region lock on two games, because of the launch of the German version of the site, I beg to differ.
I didn't follow the issue closely, but if memory serves, isn't it ultimately your government who makes these stupid calls?

Can't blame GOG for wanting to make their storefront more accessible.

It should be cheaper in Russia, their currency is weaker.

For things that have a negligible copy and distribution cost like digital games, it makes sense to always adjust the price to whatever a given market can afford.

I'm aware this isn't the reality you are experiencing, but don't take it out on Russia.

Now please, do that for the country where you actually provide the Fair Price Package and where they feel like they have to pay more to get their games. Lower the price instead.
Otherwise the above phrase is just PR (as usual) and no fact (as usual)

HypersomniacLive: I really like how it's the publishers'/ devs' doing when it's something that gets a negative reception, but it's GOG's when it's something that you expect to get praise for or benefit from.

And the reality of the market? You mean the reality of how pubs/ devs and other stores treat the market based only on the currency in use; sometimes not even that.
Though the same thing.
It's really bothering the way GOG twist reality and show the good half side of everything to benefit their business while they always avoid to give the full information. It's always an agreement between pubs/devs and stores if you pay more or pay less. So thanks pubs / devs for allowing GOG to have a different price for certain regions.

A better way to translate this GOG update: "To Russian-speaking gamers, we were ripping you off. Now we are ripping you off less. Prise us."

Well they're about as high as the Humongous games...
